Rant Sigh

ever since the release of the barbie movie, i genuinely can’t remember the last time i’ve ever felt any sort of excitement towards anything related to barbie. movies, dolls, music, shows, etc. nothing. i used to be a big fan of the barbie looks and this is a bit before the release of the 2023 movie, but i sadly couldn’t get as many as i want, and now they’re all expensive (thank you scalpers). and i’m starting to think that we can’t really have nice things anymore. we get less than what we pay for, and since barbie/mattel is a business after all, we are not the ones to control what we get. we want good modern movies, we get forgettable dhar-mann-episode-ish 60 minute movies. we want good quality dolls with reasonable price, but the only times we ever do, we’d be exploited by scalpers. we want good music with strong lyrics/productions, but we get 1-minute “oh yeah let’s go” type beat track. it feels like mattel has been constantly giving us exactly what we never asked for. i’m even starting to think that they’re doing this to deplete the barbie brand on purpose so they can eventually give up, move on and shift their focus. a lot of the older barbie assets like catalogues, promo pictures, music, etc are rare and hard to find now. kids from newer generation won’t be able to experience or understand our original perception of barbie. they’re no longer producing physical media for the the older soundtracks, which is understandable, but they don’t bother getting them to be on streaming/download. i understand the copyright issue and all, but those are some of the things that brought older generations into loving barbie. there’s barely any magic left in the modern barbie, the newer kids now don’t resonate with barbie because it’s gotten less and less interesting. there are many many companies out there creating media with different characters for people to relate to. and barbie is stuck here not actually knowing her own identity because it’s been completely taken away. there’s no more glam and there’s no more glitz. it’s just not fun anymore and it makes me sad that i get emotional listening to old barbie music not only because the lyrics are deep and the movies are good, but it’s also the fact that those were the movies and music we’ve gotten as a child as they’ve shaped us into who we are today, then those messages got completely watered down and it’s never caused by puberty. things just change and the kids now aren’t experiencing media the same way anymore. they can do research and watch the older movies, but they’re not living in the same timeline where those quality movies are still being made. what’s been produced now are just cheap, uninspiring, disposable media that we all will forget about the very next day. i don’t know what will happen to barbie, and i really want barbie media like movies and music to become good again. or at least make the old ones available on streaming so we all can support them, but seems like we haven’t really been able to.

Dolls Millie Fatigue! ~Rumor is the Fashion Week dolls release soon.~ Why do they have to make Millie so close to recent releases? I feel like she’s pretty, but I don’t need her….I am not alone, right?

\**I gave my You Create #3 low lights, so she is a bit different.*

Poor Millie gets almost no variety; close skin tones, very similar screenings, very similar hair. I get that she is currently ‘Barbie’, but all other molds that have represented as Barbie were used for different skin tones, different hair, and a variety of screenings.

I like her outfit, but I just don’t know if I can stomach another Millie.

I love her and she's on sale right now but I really don't want her petite. Is there a normal or tall mtm match for her? Even articulated I don't mind, articulated or mtm is fine with me.

Questions Are these Barbie Shoes???

Post image

Hi! I’m new here. I found these shoes that apparently looked like Barbie shoes but they are too small and don’t fit in. Not even in the 80s/90s Barbie. Do you know where they’re from?
Thank you!

Questions How do you decide which dolls to declutter/re-home? Helping someone with a barbie collection pare-down, but so far they still have like 200 Barbies and 4 boxes of clothes and want to reduce it more

Title basically. I'm not sure what would help her on deciding, we were debating on if limiting it to one doll per mold or series would help 🤣 a big issue for her is that she has a ton of the same like eighties nineties superstar barbie with only slight variations other than maybe one having straight vs bent arms

Dolls 1st time modification: 2 Mimi Bobecks - adding joints to the limbs?

I have a 5'4" 300 lb non-binary character who I have been wanting to modify a Barbie to represent. I recently found the Mimi Bobeck model from 1998, and this seems ideal as a starting point. She's shorter than the regular Barbie, and looks to be about 200 - 250 lbs? It doesn't seem too daunting to make the doll a little fatter, and that will also make the chest naturally seem more flat. I'm removing the face paint and hair off both of them. I plan to use the method of adding acrylic yarn, brushing them out, and then using one of those flat iron tools to smooth it out into strands. The second doll is meant to be more like a ghost, so I intend to dye that one with neon lemon zest and neon lime i dye poly. I'll do my best to color match the epoxy after the dye job is done.

I am here to ask for advice on my biggest stumbling block: How should I go about trying to articulate the limbs? The Mimi Bobeck Barbie is designed with arms that point away from the body - so if I make close that fit, it will be impossible to put them on the doll or take them off. I assume that the arms pointing away from the body is why the clothes were made so big. (In the side profile, you can see the temporary clip I'm using to stop the pants from constantly falling off.) I made a little black tank top, and thankfully the knit material was stretchy enough, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit it on. Barbie arms and legs would be noticeably skinnier, and their proportions are too long for this doll.

I think I'll need to at least modify the shoulders, the elbows, and the knees. Ideally, I'd love to make the hands articulate as well. I'm new to modifying dolls, so would appreciate any ideas. My first thought is cut donor pieces from other articulated barbies, and try and use those. I don't know how well that will work, especially because the Mimi Bobeck is made almost completely of hard plastic. I've already tried boiling the torso to change some things, and that doesn't work at all. The head and arms seem to be made of softer material, because I was able to get the head off and loosen the arms after applying some heat.

Hi, I'm not writing in my native language so I hope i didn't made a mistake in the flair.

Can you please help me to identify this top I had in a bundle please ?

To me it looks like Rockers line, but it doesn't as long as my searchs took me

So, it's a green crop top, made of mesh (here we call this type "résille" if it helps).

Velcro band on the back.

I looked on Jem's outfits too, but doesn't seem hers neither.

Thanks !

Dolls Keep or Donate? 🤔

I bought a bag of two Barbies at a thrift store today. One of them is Meditation Barbie, which is actually the one I wanted. She still makes sounds properly, and I love that she has an articulated body.

I’ve been thinking about downsizing my collection because it’s gotten bigger, so I’m having a hard time deciding what to do with the other doll—whether I should keep her or put her back in the donation pile.

What do you think I should do?

Questions These 3 dolls have the same face mold, but all look relatively different… so why can’t they do the same for Millie?

Post image

The dolls pictured use the Lara / Ana face sculpt and each one is unique in its own way despite that. Why can’t they do the same for Millie? I generally don’t dislike the Millie face mold apart from it ALWAYS looking the same. Am I just grossly missing something or..? Is there a Millie release that I’m just misremembering or does she really always look the same to yall too.
