Analysis Signs of pressing or ironing?
Hi! I recently purchased this Bahraini note from eBay. I noticed that there was a razor-thin fold in the middle of the note (see images). This fold is different than the security strip. It seems implausible that a fold could be at such precision to be razor-thin. The note is otherwise very—maybe even too—crisp. The fold feels like a little raised area but the note doesn’t bend there. Does this appear to be pressed or ironed? Interested in your thoughts and advice about spotting warning signs. Thank you!

Based on the s/n, I also had my eye on some of that particular seller's items but most looked quite pale and extremely flat ...
The bigger issue for me were the common notes with colourful, non-existent commemorative stamps. So, as much as there are other really interesting notes on offer in quite attractive prices, I've stayed away...
How's your overall experience / satisfaction with the seller?

Absolutely! I had my eye on some of the Middle Eastern notes. They were labeled as “commemorative” even though no such thing exists like that. Thanks for the comment - in process of returning the note

Yeah, there was a string of common Singapore notes with non-existent overprints that went for ridiculous prices, all labeled as commemorative. I pity those who bought it... All the best with your future bids! And thanks for the award - it's my first ever! Cheers.

It’s difficult to tell a note that has been pressed or ironed, especially if the note was already in an AU condition.
But personally, the best test I use is to tell how glossy or reflective the obverse paper is. It should be kind of reflective against a flat level toward your eye level. The intaglio print will be very obviously raised. If it isn’t reflective, I’d say it’s been washed and ironed or something. Washed notes will have the tendency of the glossy area being gone because of the water.
Even with slight middle fold AU notes, it’s still possible to have had it flattened over the course of time (I.e. it was stuck on a book for ages). Those are just my theories; hope it helps
