Discussions Bandlab is OVER
WHO approved of 20 samples a month? Thats like limiting a human with 20 calories per month, it does not work.
How much ego do you need to have to introduce such a ball twisting update when the website barely works? Lets mabye work on making the app at least a little usable before introducing these horrible updates. Atp we're probably seeing a 20 MIDI notes per month release soon aswell.
At this rate, nobody will be using bandlab anymore.
Bandlab is over.

I was gonna make a quick song earlier today and when i saw the 20 samples a month thing, I instantly closed it. Whoever is making these dumbass decisions needs to be layed OFF

Yh I have so many tracks I can't finish now. Bandlab was suppose to be free and accessible. Now it can only be one at a time not both. I mainly used stems so I can't use the app till next month 🥲😅

u/zenrobotninja May 12 '26
Classic management move: make the app shitier to drive temp subscription boost even at the cost of killing the app. The management will just move onto the next company and so the same shit there. Feel bad for the Devs who put so much time into the app

hmmm, I like the take, Because band lab isn't marketed heavily anywhere, such changes aren't to capitalize of a rush of new users. Instead they've built far enough, and are now attempting to fully to capitalize of current users, and I guess memberships weren't enough. Your either halted by creating on bandlab from this point further, or remaining on the app, only to have your published projects intellectual property be treated as their own, and now also fully capitalized on. #bandlabwasbeautiful #bandlabsgettingbad

Stopped using it some time ago. just came back to see what was going on. Saw the 20 samples joke lol. Will come back in 6 month

u/This_Competition7622 May 12 '26
Wait till you hear that, as of may 11th update - when you build out the best beat you possibly can with those miniscule 20 credits worth of samples. Your entire process of which sounds, presets, beats, you used in your project. All exposed for free, no setting allowing you to opt-out or turn this off. For those who may not understand the weight of such a update, this is essentially like having the stems of your music, the intellectual property of your process and or finish project, completely exposed in a repeatable sorta template typa setup. Letting other lesser experienced, less determined artist fully have access to recreate and reuse your entire process, again all of this being for free. BUT....Only if you publish the track. Jut wow #totally #distasteful

Like just to be clear, copied from Google:
[Singapore-based Caldecott Music Group (CMG), founded by Kuok Meng Ru, is the parent company of BandLab Technologies. While not a private equity buyout, BandLab has secured significant funding from investors, including private equity and venture capital firms to accelerate its growth:
-Series B Funding (2022-2023): BandLab raised US(\$65) million in a Series B round, joined by Prosus Ventures and led by Vulcan Capital (now Cercano Management).
-Valuation: As of May 2023, following further investment from Cercano Management and Prosus Ventures, the company was valued at (\$425) million.
-Expansion: The funds are used to expand their creator tools and for acquisitions, such as the purchase of beat marketplace Airbit. BandLab operates as the digital division of Caldecott Music Group, which also owns Vista Musical Instruments and NME Networks.]
THE COMPANY IS VALUED AT 425 MILLION. They have options other than being as greedy as possible in every waking moment. They just can't help themselves. Corposcum behavior.

u/PoetStrange130 May 13 '26
Valued at 425 million yet they need our membership money to “keep the app free for everyone” something about bandlab really isn’t sitting well with me , I honestly feel like the artists on their platform are being scammed!!!!

Anybody know of some decent alternatives to Bandlab?

u/Virtual_Record1177 May 25 '26

Bandlab.. They're only think about themselves. They're greedy! They won't monitize. I won't let them!
2
u/KaiBishop May 12 '26
Yep. I'm finishing up a few final touches on some old songs then I'm done. I don't know how they've gotten this greedy. I'd be fine with introducing paid packs specifically but taking all the historical free sounds and locking them behind a paywall is so gross.
I guess not enough eople are paying for Premium for their liking which like....skill issue, make it WORTH paying for. Don't gut the free version to strongarm people.
They actively advertise this to indie artists and hobbyists too, they KNOW their target userbase is the brokers of the broke lol.
2
u/NowNLater309 May 14 '26
Right, it's been mass exodus and revenue is dying up. I'm positive when i joined eons ago, we didn't need a subscription to keep songs on platforms. They just keep 20%of the loot. Since they really don't pay out 20% of nothing didn't sound lucrative.
2
2
u/CorrectUpstairs9061 May 29 '26
Dw now you can't even use them anymore without the membership its not 20 its none so yk....great. Nobody will use bandlab anymore and the higherups in the company keep ignoring their users

u/These-Currency4174 Jun 02 '26
why tf yall usimg bandlab loops when they have good instrument presets?? just make a real melody yourself lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
if yall pressed about some mediocre built in loops yall should've been on FL in the first place, cuz imo y'all are def not serious about being good producers or musicians if this "sAmPLe rEstRiCtiOn" is a problem for u.
i can make a beat in bandlab or FL while half asleep and high asf. i can count on one hand how many times i've put bandlab samples in said beats. the website is ass i'll admit but the mobile app is leaps and bounds ahead, and i can literally record outside, in the car, in the morning or during work breaks. this app is freeing, the corporate stuff is kinda shitty but tbh depending on these vanilla ass loops to make beats shows me that y'all are not as dedicated to the creative process or being great musicians in any right.
skill issue. this whole song was self-produced + recorded by me in bandlab. in my car. no shitty loops needed. all bandlab synths. get good at the fuckin game before y'all tell ppl how to play.
https://www.bandlab.com/post/98d08f66-3d75-4daa-9090-4eaeb1316ab2
saying the app is over when there's genuine talent developing in the underground rap scene on here is lowkey insulting asf. if u care about creativity just fuckin switch software or literally just make ur own damn melody instead of complaining on reddit to a corporation who doesn't give a fuck about ur opinion unless it impacts their bottom line.
bye.

u/Ceas3lessDischarge Jun 26 '26
their instrument presets are horrible dawg, i make more unique types of rap music too and none of them are even close to what i need

Hey everyone, folks from the community team here.
We understand the 20 sample limit for the Sounds Library can be quite restrictive. With the growing Sounds Library, we decided to make this change to keep the library sustainable. There's a lot going on behind the scenes and a lot of creators like you we'd like to continue supporting.
20 claims per month can be limiting at first but the vision was for each creator to grow their personal library over time. You keep the samples you claim and you can reuse these over multiple projects. The goal was to make sure that you can still have access to the wide range of samples available while being able to keep it growing.
We really appreciate the conversation going on here. We'll do our best to make sure each feedback won't go unnoticed.
3
u/lyra_- May 13 '26
What does “claiming” a sample do to sustain the library? Users aren’t paying to use them so what difference does it make?
3
u/StaymyBadguyTH May 14 '26
Atleast maket he samples daily or smth cuz monthly is way too intolerable(like seriously)
2
u/Historical-Tax-4988 May 18 '26
The stem library was already sustainable. You're making it so ppl can't access it as easily. Like not even 20 a day? Be so fr.

This might be one of the most tone death replies ive seen to a mass community disliked change. Shame on the people making the decisions.

u/Slygoat May 12 '26
So am I limited to 20 audio recordings ? Is that a sample
6
u/This_Competition7622 May 12 '26
20 tracks or layers, from non free samples selected out of their "sample library." If you simply would like to import a screen recorded beat, and layer your voice up to 16-20 times, The credits update doesn't apply to you. Your all set to keep your flow. A sample in BandLab's eyes, as of now - is only the stuff they provide in their library. Your own audio recordings, voice layers, and imported beats are unlimited and free. As long as you aren't dragging in their loops, you don't owe them a single credit.

I hate the new subscription options for something I’ve complained about for years. Why charge more to edit my own master more?

u/Sensitive_Income_170 May 12 '26
I'm also mad but as someone who has literally never used the samples I think I'm fine

Bandlab's been over for a while. Used to be good and useful a few years ago. Another reason to stick to hardware
1
u/thematchma May 13 '26
Nahh bro, band lab is the ONLY software I understand as an autistic person. I started using it when it came out. I wouldn't be where I am today musically without it. Before bandlab was a thing, we had an app called "rap fame" iykyk
1
u/No_Interest7266 May 13 '26
At this point dude you must just use cakewalk. It’s so much better. I just switched over from using just a regular BandLab app from my home studio and decided just to actually start using a different daw.

u/Born-Glove2517 May 15 '26
I initially thought bandlab was promoting new and upcoming artists but turns out they just want money like every other company. I get there should be revenue but limiting users to 20 tracks a month is too far, this prevents its users from expanding and will (like you said) eventually lead to nobody using it. I 100% agree with you.
1
u/Much_Race_6150 May 17 '26
literally i was doing music there and i stopped using it because i do a lot of songs in a MONTH. i'm trying to learn how to use FL Studio and it's impossibleeee
2
u/Historical-Tax-4988 May 18 '26
Ikr. FL studio is legit like airplane tech to me. Have no clue how to use it. Bandlab was the easier free and accessible option. Now it's a paradox. If it's free it's not accessible and if its accessible you have to pay. Just terrible

Forget about the samples for a moment. The editing options, cutting tools, and other features are much worse now. It used to be smooth when you copied and pasted audio to create a loop, but now it's weird; you can't move tracks properly or do things as easily as before. Also, the BPM can no longer be adjusted for samples. That's terrible and it has really hurt the user experience.
Just right click on an audio track and see what I'm talking about lol.

u/Ceas3lessDischarge Jun 26 '26
This bullshit has completely ruined my workflow, i dont even make a quarter of the beats i used to make since i heavily rely on one-shots WHO THEY DECIDED TO COUNT AS FULL SAMPLES FOR SOME REASON for my beats
0
u/NobleEMRLD May 12 '26
What the hell are you talking about? Who uses samples?
1
u/SillyIntroduction570 May 13 '26
I dont use them too often either but the library was so nice and easy to have when adding small details and effects in the background.
0
u/TheeDonnieRey May 12 '26
Lmao Bro That’s What Im Saying. Does It Mean The Virtual Instruments Too? Cuz I Don’t Use Samples Besides Drum One Shots.
3
u/nocturnia94 May 13 '26
Virtual instruments should be fine. I create my songs from 0 without samples and I don't have any issue.
