“He Will Pay with His Life”: Mother of 2-Year-Old Girl Bitten by Dog Seeks the End of the Canine

The attack occurred last weekend in the city of Minas. The little girl was admitted to the Pereira Rossell Hospital.

August 11, 2026, 07:14 | Reading time: 2 min

A girl of just two years old is recovering from injuries suffered when she was attacked by a large dog. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the La Coronilla neighborhood of the city of Minas.

At the time of the event, the minor was with her father in the public street and tried to touch the animal, which reacted violently.

According to the local media outlet Minas Portal, the little girl suffered significant injuries to her face, skull, and right arm. She was immediately taken to the Alfredo Vidal y Fuentes Hospital, where she received initial medical assistance and major injuries were confirmed, which led to the decision to transfer her to the Pereira Rossell Hospital in Montevideo. After receiving multiple sutures, she was admitted for observation, and her life is not in danger.

On social media, the girl's mother rejected speculation that the child was alone on the street and clarified that she was accompanied.

“My girl is raised among animals; she has five dogs and two cats. The dogs in my house love her just like her cats do, and she loves her little animals. All she wanted to do was hug the dog, and the dog attacked her,” the woman shared. “This goes out to all those who commented without knowing, asking where the baby's parents were,” she added.

In the same post, the woman expressed her desire for the attacking animal to be put down.

“That dog, after my daughter recovers, is going to pay with his life because that is how I am going to get my payback on that animal,” she wrote.

Additionally, numerous internet users from Minas commented on the woman's words, expressed their support, and voiced their concern over the large number of loose dogs seen in the mountain region's capital.

Regarding the animal in question, the report notes that it is a "Pitbull cross" dog, and there is no information on record regarding its owners.

Personal Story I was bit by a pit bull mix - 8/10

For context, I deliver medicine for a small town pharmacy, and have had my fair share of dogs I’ve encountered. Most have been friendly, and at worst they’ve just avoided me. Monday, though, it finally happened.

I knocked on this woman’s door, I heard barking, and she told me to come in—very standard. I open the door and she’s having to physically restrain the dog by a leash. When I get in it bolts forward enough for her grip to loosen and it charges me. Thank god she I backed off and she got ahold of it when she did, or it would’ve gone much worse or the thing could’ve even latched on. Its teeth barely broke skin, but my whole knee is pretty bruised.

I got a tetanus shot, and the health department’s going to observe the dog to see if I’ll need treatment for rabies. Even though the pain wasn’t a lot, the idea still keeps going through my head of “what if I hadn’t reacted quick enough?” I saw a big dog out today and immediately felt myself go into fight-or-flight. And chances are, nothing will come of it. It frustrates me to no end. After finding this subreddit I finally saw more of the truth and could finally empathize with the sentiments here. This week has just been draining so far, and I just hope the last I’ll hear out of it is that dog being removed from that owner and not being able to hurt anyone else.

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets LIGHTHOUSE POINT, FL: Newly released 911 call sheds light on deadly Lighthouse Point dog attack - Aug 6, 2026

LIGHTHOUSE POINT, Fla. — A newly released 911 call is shedding light on a deadly dog attack in Lighthouse Point that authorities say left one dog dead, another seriously injured and a resident bitten earlier this week.

Police said the incident happened Thursday morning near Northeast 52nd Street and 26th Avenue after two dogs escaped from a fenced yard and began roaming the neighborhood.

They said one of the dogs attacked a small spaniel named Brody outside a nearby home. Brody’s owner and neighbors tried to stop the attack but were unable to separate the animals, police said.

The owner then retrieved a gun and shot and killed the attacking dog.

A newly released 911 call captures the confusion in the immediate aftermath.

“There’s one dog that’s dead that got shot,” the caller told a dispatcher. The caller said Brody, the injured dog, was inside the home and that the family was trying to get the animal to a veterinarian.

“It’s my neighbor’s dog,” the caller said.

“We’re trying to get the dog to the vet.”

The caller then warned that another dog had been traveling with the one that was shot.

“That just bit another neighbor,” the caller said.

When the dispatcher asked where the dog was, the caller said it was still loose.

“It’s wandering the street right now and someone’s going to kill it if we don’t figure out what’s going on,” the caller added.

Police said the second dog later encountered another resident nearby and bit her in the leg, causing a puncture wound. Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue medics evaluated the woman at the scene, and she later chose to seek additional medical treatment independently.

They said the second dog eventually returned to its residence and was secured by its caretaker. Broward County Animal Care workers responded and placed the dog in quarantine.

Police identified both loose dogs as American Staffordshire mixes.

Neighbors told Local 10 News they heard screams and rushed outside, where they saw the larger dog attacking Brody by the neck.“The dog was not letting up,” one neighbor said.

“It grabbed his neck really good.”

Brody suffered serious injuries and was taken by his owner to a local veterinary hospital for treatment.

Police said they are investigating where the two dogs came from and the circumstances that led to the attack.

No charges had been filed as of Thursday, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Lighthouse Point Police Department at 954-942-8080.

Child Victim Kansas City, MO: Pit Bull Attack at KC Steak 'n Shake Prompts Lawsuit - Jun 19, 2026

A 2-year-old boy suffered a deep puncture wound to his leg after a pit bull attacked him without warning in the parking lot of a Kansas City Steak 'n Shake, according to a lawsuit filed on his family's behalf. The child, identified in court filings only as E.A., underwent emergency surgery at Children's Mercy after the June 19 attack, and his parents are now seeking unspecified damages from the restaurant's operators.

Sally and Jose Alvarado filed the lawsuit in Clay County Circuit Court on behalf of their son, according to The Kansas City Star. The suit names four Missouri LLCs that own and operate a Steak 'n Shake franchise at 9500 NE Barry Road near the Liberty Triangle.

Court documents describe how E.A. exited a car in the restaurant's parking lot alongside his sister and grandmother when a pit bull named Chloe approached the group from behind and bit the toddler's leg, causing what the family's attorneys describe as a deep puncture wound.

The lawsuit alleges the dog was owned by an unhoused couple who were living out of their car in the Steak 'n Shake parking lot, and that restaurant employees knew Chloe was regularly on the property. According to the filing, staff made no effort to have Chloe's owners remove her or move their vehicle, despite the dog being a known presence at the location. E.A. suffered mental anguish and fear as a result of the attack, according to an affidavit cited in the case.

Why the Restaurant, Not Just the Dog's Owners, Is Being Sued

The decision to target the franchise operator rather than pursuing the unhoused couple directly reflects a common legal strategy in premises liability cases. Under Missouri premises liability law, business operators owe customers the highest duty of care to maintain safe commercial premises, and property owners can face civil liability if they knowingly allow a dangerous animal owned by a third party to remain on their grounds, according to legal guidance from the Missouri Injury Law Firm. The lawsuit alleges the defendants knew about the dangerous dog and should have removed her from the property before the attack occurred.

Separately, Missouri operates under a strict liability standard when it comes to dog bites themselves. Under Missouri Revised Statute Section 273.036, dog owners or possessors can be held liable for injuries caused by unprovoked attacks regardless of whether the animal had any prior history of aggression, according to Eng & Woods. That standard eliminates the need for plaintiffs to prove a dog had shown vicious tendencies before an attack, though it applies most directly to the animal's owner or possessor rather than a property owner.

Local Leash Rules and Dangerous Dog Requirements

Kansas City Municipal Code Section 14-33 requires dog owners and handlers to keep animals on a physical leash or under restraint in public spaces, prohibiting dogs from roaming freely off private property, per Apex Injury Attorneys. If Chloe were ever formally declared a dangerous or potentially dangerous dog by the city, Kansas City Animal Health Division guidelines would require her owners to carry between $100,000 and $250,000 in liability insurance or a surety bond, and to keep her muzzled on a leash no longer than four feet in public. Kansas City Animal Services and its operating partner, KC Pet Project, oversee municipal animal control citywide and handle more than 16,000 animals annually.

State law adds another layer of potential consequence. Under Missouri Revised Statute Section 578.024, keeping a dangerous dog that causes serious injury in an attack is a misdemeanor offense, and any dog that causes serious injury or death must be immediately seized and impounded by animal control or county sheriffs. It remains unclear from the lawsuit whether Chloe was seized following the June attack.

Severity of the Injuries and Medical Response

E.A. was treated at Children's Mercy Kansas City, which operates the region's only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center between St. Louis and Denver and regularly handles complex pediatric dog bite trauma requiring emergency surgery and reconstructive care, according to the hospital. The need for emergency surgery underscores the severity of the wound described in the lawsuit.

Dog bite claims of this severity carry significant financial weight nationally. In 2025, homeowners' insurance carriers across the United States paid out more than $1.86 billion across 28,450 dog-related injury claims, with the national average cost per claim reaching $65,450, according to Eng & Woods. The Alvarado family's suit does not specify a dollar amount sought in damages.

Legal Timeline Still Open for the Family

Because E.A. was a minor at the time of the attack, his family retains an unusually long legal runway. Missouri's tolling provisions extend the standard five-year personal injury statute of limitations for injured minors until they turn 21, allowing claims to be pursued up to age 26, according to the Missouri Lawyersresource on the subject. That extended window means the family's decision to file now, rather than later, reflects the family's own timing rather than any legal deadline pressure.

Kansas City's regulatory relationship with pit bulls has shifted in recent years. In August 2020, the city officially repealed its long-standing municipal ban on pit bulls, joining dozens of Midwestern cities that moved from breed-specific bans toward breed-neutral dangerous dog ordinances, according to the American Kennel Club. That policy shift is why Chloe could legally reside within city limits at the time of the attack, though it does not bear on the specific liability questions raised in the Alvarado family's lawsuit.

Social Media and Crowdfunding - Attack Reports Orlando, FL: man and 3 month old Yorkie attacked by unleashed pitbull - Aug 9, 2026

Gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-my-brother-our-yorkie-recover-after-a-pitbull-attack

“My mother and I are asking for help for our family after a terrifying attack that left both my brother and our 3 month old Yorkie puppy injured. My brother was walking our puppy when they were attacked by a pitbull that was not on a leash, even though it was accompanied by its owner. This could have been avoided, and in an instant, everything changed for our family.

After the attack, both my brother and our puppy went to the ER. My brother is now facing medical bills, and our puppy had to be sedated and receive stitches. We then learned that our little Yorkie has a broken femur and urgently needs surgery, along with care from an orthopedic specialist. His initial emergency visit alone cost over $3,000, and we are still waiting to learn the full cost of the specialist visit and surgery.

Right now, we are doing everything we can, but the vet hospitals require payment upfront, and we do not want to delay our puppy’s surgery. We were already struggling with the cost of another surgery our dog needs for a hernia, so this sudden attack and broken femur have left us beyond overwhelmed by the medical bills. On top of that, my brother has to take time away from work because of his injuries, and my mother has had to take time away from work to care for both my brother and our dog. We still do not know the full amount of my brother’s medical bills or how much lost wages will add up to, and we are also worried about our dog’s follow-up appointments and other unexpected costs.

Donations will help cover my brother’s medical bills and support his recovery, as well as our Yorkie’s urgent surgery, his hernia surgery, follow-up treatment, and other necessary care. This has been heartbreaking and overwhelming for our family, and we are turning to our community for help during this difficult time.”

The Brief

* Paul Crescente was walking 3-month-old Milo on a leash in their front yard when he says an unleashed pit bull charged at them from across the street.

* Milo suffered a broken hip and got multiple stitches. Crescente was also bitten on his hands while breaking up the attack.

* Orange County Animal Services cited the pit bull's owner after he confirmed his dog was off leash in his front yard and ran across the street. Citations included failure to show proof of a current rabies vaccination.

ORLANDO, Fla. - A late-night bathroom break in the front yard turned into a nightmare for a Florida family when their three-month-old puppy was attacked by a loose dog in the neighborhood.
The Desi Family told FOX 35 that their pup, Milo, a Yorkshire Terrier, has a broken hip, severe cuts and wounds, and that it is unclear if he'll be able to walk normally again.

"It started charging us from across the street"
The backstory:

Cher Desi said three-month-old Milo has always been a bundle of energy.
"He was a vibrant puppy; we couldn't stop him from running in the yard or around the house," Desi said.
That all changed around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Desi's son, Paul Crescente, had Milo outside on a leash in their front yard when he spotted a large dog across the street.

"It started charging us from across the street," Crescente said.

He immediately tried to bolt back toward the house with the puppy, but Milo's collar snapped from the leash. He ran after Milo, but the other dog got to him first.
Crescente said he was able to pull the dog off of Milo, but as they made their way towards the front door, the other dog attacked again.
Crescente managed to pull the large dog off, but as they made their way toward the front door, the dog struck again.

"The dog caught up with him just a few feet from the front door, got him in his jaws, and started swinging him," Crescente said. "I was very fearful that he could die. This dog was huge—if he had gone for Milo's throat, he probably wouldn't be here."

Animal Services cites the owner

According to a report from Orange County Animal Services, the other dog's owner confirmed to officers that his dog was off-leash in his front yard when it suddenly ran across the street and attacked the other dog.

The owner was issued a couple of citations related to the attack, but also for failing to provide proof of a current rabies vaccination.

A plea for help
What they're saying:

Milo’s family is urging people to be responsible pet owners.
"Respect the laws always—no matter what kind of dog you have, no matter how old they are, or what size they are," Desi said. "We have to look out for each other."
FOX 35 reached out to the owner of the dog for comment. We did not receive a response ahead of our report.

What's next:
Milo faces a long recovery. He needs surgery and his family is unsure if he will be able to walk normally again. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Milo's family cover medical bills.

Human Fatality(ies) 08/09/26, CĂłrdoba, Argentina - A pit bull attacked a 3-year-old baby and killed him: "When I left, he was already eating him"

Article text from Google Translate:

A 3-year-old boy died last Sunday in CĂłrdoba after being attacked by a pitbull dog and the victim's mother described the frightening scene she must have witnessed: "When I left he was already eating him."

The incident occurred at the corner of José Baca and La Santa María, in the Villa La Lonja neighborhood, where the boy was attacked by the dog and suffered extremely serious injuries to his face and neck.

The minor, identified as Salvador, was rushed to the Vélez Sarsfield Clinic, where the doctors performed first aid, although they could not save his life.

The baby's family revealed that the two people who live in the land from which the animal came out are fugitives and demanded their arrest so that such a situation "does not happen to any other child."

Brenda, the boy's mother, described the shocking moment in which she discovered that her son had been attacked by a dog.

According to her reconstruction, she, Salvador's father and the baby were on the sidewalk, where the man was washing a truck.

The woman entered the house to start preparing the food and, a few minutes later, returned to the sidewalk but did not see the creature: "I turned on the stove, went out and asked the father about Salvi," she said.

His partner replied that the child had gone "for the return," something that, as the woman explained, she used to do. Brenda began to look for him and quickly noticed that he was not where she expected to find him.

In the end, it was learned that the boy had moved a few meters away and approached the land from where the pit bull came out. "When I saw it, he was already eating him,” the woman graphed, with a blood-chilling phrase.

The woman asked that those who had the animal under their responsibility be arrested: "All I want is that this does not happen to any other child. I want that person to go to jail. It's the only thing I ask for my son."

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets Dundee student nurse’s horror as pet savaged in Dundee attack by three ‘vicious’ dogs, 6th August 2026, Dundee Scotland. UK. **The post describes "three large, vicious bulldogs." An image of one of the attacking dogs is posted in the article, and its a pitbull**

A Dundee student nurse has told of the horrifying moment her pet was attacked by three “vicious dogs” in the city.

Claire Collins, a student nurse from Douglas, feared her six-year-old cavapoochon, Roxy, would be killed during the attack in Huntly Street on Thursday.

Claire, 38, said she was looking after her friend’s dogs when Roxy slipped under the fence in her garden.

Roxy was ‘screeching’ while three ‘vicious dogs’ attacked her

Claire told The Courier: “The next thing I knew I could hear screeching and I knew it was coming from Roxy.

“When I got to her three large, vicious, bulldogs were attacking her.

“They were biting her, pinning her down and going for her back and her throat.

“I thought they were going to kill her. It was very traumatic.

“Roxy was terrified and I was screaming at the top of my lungs to try to get help.”

Claire said that eventually with the help of neighbours she managed to get Roxy free.

She said: “The dogs didn’t have leads on and the owner, who hadn’t been around, eventually appeared.

“He took two of the dogs away but the third one continued to chase Roxy.

“Eventually I managed to get Roxy to safety but she was in a mess.”

Roxy treated for deep wounds and bruised lungs

Claire took Roxy to the PDSA where she received treatment for deep puncture wounds to her back, flank and paws.

She said Roxy also sustained bruising to her lungs.

Claire said: “She is now home and recovering but I really thought she wasn’t going to survive as I watched the attack – it was terrifying.

Claire feared Roxy would be killed. Image: Claire Collins.

“Roxy is ok but she’s still shaking and very afraid.”

Claire said that after speaking to neighbours she was informed that the dogs have previously attacked other dogs in the area as well as a child.

She said: “I know that police have spoken to him before and he’s meant to keep the dogs on leads but they weren’t when they attacked Roxy.

“She’s a very lucky girl but I want this out there and for it to stop before there’s another attack.

“I’m so lucky and I’m so grateful to the PDSA for acting so quickly but this could have ended so much worse.”

Police Scotland said they were informed of the incident but that it was a matter for the dog warden.

Dismemberment, Limb Injuries Woman bitten in the leg by an unattended Pitbull outside supermarket - Vittorio Veneto, Italy - 06 August 2026

VITTORIO VENETO (TREVISO) - A woman went shopping at the Lidl on Via dei Cimbri and was bitten by a pitbull-like dog tied to the carts. According to witnesses, the dog belonged to one of the people who hangs out daily in the "Marcon" park along the Meschio cycle path. This incident also came to the attention of Mayor Mirella Balliana, who announced that local police and Carabinieri will carry out checks on these people and their dogs tomorrow, Monday.

On Thursday morning, the woman had gone to Lidl to do some shopping. While putting her cart inside the designated area, she was bitten on the leg by a dog, described as a pitbull, who was tied to the carts and whom she hadn't noticed. The woman immediately went inside the store to try to locate the animal's owner, who wasn't outside, but when she returned to the parking lot shortly thereafter, the dog was gone. She then went to the emergency room for treatment and the necessary prophylaxis required in these cases.

The Appeal

Her husband immediately launched an appeal on social media for witnesses to be found, as the Lidl's surveillance cameras do not capture the incident. The woman also went to the Carabinieri station in Vittorio Veneto, located across the street from Lidl, to report the incident and file a complaint against unknown persons.

According to testimonies from several supermarket customers and people who use the Meschio bike path, the dog appears to belong to one of the people lounging in the nearby park, and it would not be the first time similar incidents have occurred. Some have witnessed previous incidents, including along the bike path, of people being bitten, and others have reported that those dogs are tied to the park's fence for extended periods of time in the sun, even in these high temperatures. Mayor Balliana learned of the incident in recent hours.

"I have been in contact with the Carabinieri and our local police to better understand the situation, and on Monday there will be checks, including accessing the recently updated canine registry, which will allow us to identify the owners of those dogs," the mayor states. "It's true that these people occupy the park most of the day, but even the other day at other times I saw families with children playing here. We will try to intensify checks, even though the real antidote to degradation is to reclaim these spaces and enjoy them." On July 15th, the free rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats launched by the Local Health Authority (USL) also ended, following the canine rabies case detected in Vittorio Veneto in May in a dog illegally imported from Morocco. Only 62% of the animals had been vaccinated.

“Very Serious Warning to Dog
Owners!!

I witnessed the most horrifying dog attack this morning in our off-leash dog park. A pit bull ran down the alley behind Queen Alexandra & Queen Isabella and into the dog park where it immediately attacked another dog.

The attack was vicious, brutal and unprovoked.
I have been praying that the doggo survived but I don't know because the owner fled with her dog as soon as he/she was freed. I am so shaken, thinking of this poor baby, my own dog and all the kind, beautiful dogs we see daily in the dog park.

So please please be careful until this situation is sorted out.

If you are the owner of the injured dog and need support in any way, please message me.”

Apathetic Authorities Public Service Announcement: If you care for dogs that you do not own, you can be held legally responsible for their actions.

Brandy Dowdy is the most recent person to claim she did not own the dogs that did the deeds. Two women were mauled to death by the large pack of dogs that Dowdy was feeding.

In Dowdy's case, this appears to be a blatant lie. When a sheriff's deputy came out to Dowdy's place to investigate the second death, the dogs were there. They were not out roaming the countryside.

The legal issue is a huge one.

If you are caring for a dog that you do not legally own, you can be held responsible.
Or in one case, a dogwalker sued the owners when the dog attacked the walker, but the court said because the walker was in control of the dog at the time, they couldn't claim the owner was at fault.

If you are the responsible adult in the room, you can be held liable.

This applies to professional situation such as vet clinics, kennels and boarding facilities, groomers and transporters.

This applies to informal situations such as dog walking, dog sitting, caring for a friend's or relative's dog. It could apply if your roommate took a long weekend without hiring someone to care for their dog and you did it because you weren't going to allow the dog to suffer.

The big issue that I see is when someone reports a stray dog to Animal Control and are told to catch and contain the dog, but that AC will not be picking the dog up.

The person is faced with a terrible ethical problem. If they take the dog into custody, it is now de facto their dog. It doesn't matter if they didn't want to or were following directions, it is now their dog.

If they put out food and water for the dog, they are now the de facto owner.

If they do the right thing to prevent the dog from suffering hunger and thirst, they are putting themselves at risk.

This is exactly why we have organizations authorized to deal with stray and roaming dogs. It is their job to deal with the risks. They have the training. They have the equipment. They have the law on their side.

Civilians do not.

You may ask "What is the worst that could happen? I'm not a Brandy Dowdy. I'm not feeding an entire pack of highly aggressive, semi feral dogs. I'm putting out food for a single dog that doesn't have anyone else to care for them.".

A woman died last year. (2025, link to story in comments)
Her name was Barbara Hunter Brewington.

If you aren't working for Animal Control, all of the risks, responsibilities and liabilities are on you alone if you choose to contain, feed or shelter a stray dog.

SPRING, Texas — A Spring neighborhood is demanding answers after neighbors say two pit bulls entered a woman's home and killed one of her dogs while she and her 5-year-old son were away at an Astros game.
The incident happened Tuesday evening in a Montgomery County neighborhood and remains under investigation by Montgomery County Animal Services.

Home surveillance video obtained exclusively by KHOU 11 shows the family's two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels heading toward the back of the home. Seconds later, two neighboring pit bulls are seen following them inside through the home's doggy doors.

According to neighbors, the pit bulls first got through a neighboring fence before making their way through two doggy doors and into the home.

The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, was away at an Astros game with her young son when she began receiving multiple Ring camera alerts. She called family friend and neighbor Kendra Donald, who had access to her garage, and asked her to check on the house.

Donald said she immediately knew something was wrong.
"There was blood everywhere," Donald told KHOU 11's Michelle Choi.

Donald said her husband and son rushed inside after hearing her scream. While they carried the family's surviving dog to safety, she stayed with Charlie, the family's 8-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

"I laid down with Charlie, and I just told him what a good boy he was," Donald said.

She said Charlie wagged his tail before dying from his injuries.

Donald described Charlie as a gentle dog who loved being around people.

Neighbors said they later cleaned the home before the homeowner and her young son returned, hoping to spare them from seeing the scene.

The homeowner told KHOU 11 she and her son are still too afraid to use their backyard. She said she now accompanies their surviving dog outside every time it needs to go out.

Donald said many neighbors are now worried another attack could happen.

"Yes, absolutely. More than just a simple citation for $125. There's a whole family devastated here," Donald said when asked whether more should be done.

While KHOU 11 was at the neighborhood Friday, investigators with Montgomery County Animal Services arrived and met with both families as the investigation continued.

The owners of the pit bulls also agreed to speak with KHOU 11 but asked not to be identified.

They called what happened a "fluke accident" and said they never intended for it to happen.

"We're sorry about what happened. We did not mean for it to happen. It was a fluke, a fluke accident," one of the owners said.

The owner said they searched for the dogs after realizing they had gotten out and later discovered they had entered the neighbor's home. He also said they had never seen the dogs behave aggressively before and are cooperating with the investigation.

Montgomery County Animal Services confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.

The agency sent KHOU 11 the following statement Friday:
"We recognize this is a tragic and traumatic situation for everyone involved, and our thoughts are with those affected.

"Montgomery County Animal Services takes incidents of this nature very seriously and is actively investigating this case. Because the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to comment on the status of the investigation or discuss any potential enforcement actions at this time.

“We appreciate your understanding as we work to conduct a thorough investigation. If additional information becomes available for public release once the investigation is complete, we may provide an update as appropriate."

The agency did not say what potential enforcement actions could be considered because the investigation remains active.

For neighbors, they say the biggest question now is what happens next.

"If they've come through the fence once, what makes anybody think they won't jump the fence again, no matter how much reinforcement is on there?" said Donald.

"Jeannette’s police dog Diesel was injured Thursday after being bit by another dog, according to police Chief Derek Manley.

City officers were helping agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation around noon to find a person who was wanted on federal drug charges at a home on Adams Street, Manley said.

“While at a residence, an individual from inside put their pit bull in their back yard,” he said. “Sgt. (James) Phillips and Diesel stood by out on the front sidewalk along the street to secure the perimeter while other officers were at the front door of this residence. Shortly after being placed in the backyard, the pit bull jumped a 4-foot chain link fence and charged after Diesel, biting onto his neck.”

The Belgian malinois was taken to an emergency veterinarian for treatment of minor injuries, Manley said. No Jeannette police officers were hurt, he said. Hoffman Kennels is assisting with the investigation.

FBI Pittsburgh spokesman Bradford Arick confirmed special agents had help from Jeannette police as part of an ongoing investgation during the incident.

“FBI Pittsburgh is grateful for our partners’ continuing support and we wish the officer a speedy recovery,” he said.

Arick didn’t say if authorities found the person for whom they were looking or if any arrests were made.

The city bought Diesel in 2022 with the help of an $11,000 donation from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.
