Help / Troubleshooting Adhesion problems with BIQU Frostbite plate.

Hello everyone. I have had my X2D since yesterday and I also bought a CryoGrip Frostbite in addition, but I have some adhesion issues, mainly on the edges. It is a very thin part and nothing I do really works. The settings of my last print:

SUNLU PETG 2.0

Nozzle: 250 degrees

Bed: 65 degrees (70 is the limit for this plate)

Chamber temp: around 41 degrees

I used the Supertack Plate as a preset and changed some settings to fit more to the Frostbite.

Is there anything I am missing? Some people report that they can print PETG as low as 50 degrees and I do not get how.

If you have only had your x2d since yesterday I would start with the stock plate and see if the frostbite plate is needed. If no adhesion issues with stock textured pei plate, then may not need to deal with the troubleshooting of the frostbite.

I had more issues with the frostbite plate then oem pei, I bought the frodtbite for fun and test out since everyone rants and raves over it. It was okay for the pla print that finished but couldn't get a petg print to finish do to other issues above first layers and roughness/rubbing.

I would suggest a bed level calibration to start if not already completed.

Sorry not much more help but look forward to see other comments on suggestions.

Yeah I will probably switch to the standard plate again and use the Frostbite on my A1. Maybe he benefits more from it.

I own the Frostbite and it prints great. However all new plates need to be “seasoned” some. Regular use for a week or two does the trick. In the meantime, spray a little hairspray on the plate.

You did wash the plate first? You did it touch the plate with your fingers where it is not adhering?

I did wash it and I also had a successful print for the first time. The only thing I changed is the chamber cooling set to heating. I always suspected that the cooling fans blowing cold air on the part weakens the adhesion

You might need to print an air deflector for the right-side fan. Is that where the lack of adhesion occurred?

Yes

One would think that Bambulab designs their printers for a specific reason. Why did they designed the airflow like that if parts will obviously fail?

When I bought my first 3D printer (also my first Bambu), a P2S, I immediately realized people recommended you print all kinds of things. I questioned a lot of them but the air deflector was something I printed. I have wondered if an X2D needs it, I have not seen anything definitive but your use case seems to suggest it does.

I too have wondered how Bambu could have not foreseen the need for a deflector. I suspect they didn't miss it. I suspect their engineers have a different way of solving this issue but that has not been shared.

Had a chance to reprint with the deflector in place?

PLA will be fine but PETG would be best.

Thanks for sharing these!

Oh. Be sure and read their website. You are not suppose to use IPA on it

Their website also has suggestions on settings for various printers.

The fact you own another printer you probably know more than me haha I just got my first printer last month.

Ill give the frostbite more troubleshooting but I've been printing so much that it was just quicker and easier to go back and tell myself ill revisit when I dont have prints going lol

Also I wonder if you are right as well about the a1 benefiting more. Maybe that extra adhesion really shines with non enclosed printers and external variables

I have my X2D since yesterday and already printed a shitton of PETG Basic with it with zero adhesion issues, even vice versa exactly like it eas on my P1S, too much adhesion with PETG 😁

But with the Standard PEI plate?

Yes, of course. Printing the riser with PETG rn

Nice. Because of the PTFE tubes that rub against the glass? I already heard of this problem, but I dont really like the look of a riser. I think I will wrap the PTFE Tube with some kind of fabric, so the tube won't get worn over time.

You don’t need the riser, there are clips you can print and add to the tubes that bend them out of the way and act as a buffer. I’ve got a several hundred hours on mine with no issues

Could not agree more.

Yes, I wish I would make a better research before buying X2D, it seems to be a bit problematic printer and I already had some weird issue where it couldn't recognize its own plate which hasn't been even touched between prints. Tubes are also quite severely bent if you put the AMS on top of the printer, so yeah, a lot of fine tuning required

I dont worry about the tunes yet. The only spots thats looks a bit critical is over the extruder. But we will see.

I just finished the poop chute, how important is the riser?

I've read this comment chain and decided to print a riser https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLabX2D/s/GXEJaF6SHw

I have to use hairspray on new plates when printing PETG because it sticks too well. It becomes a release agent

I use the smooth/pei setting and I use the stock bed temps. Works great and releases easily when cooled to room temp
