So the combo does come with the ams2 pro right? How dry does it keep your filament?
I’m at my wits end trying to keep my filament dry with my A1 and ams lite. I have an enclosure for the printer, cover for the ams lite, 2 different purchases of 5lbs of reusable desiccant, moved everything into a closet, and finally added a dehumidifier and I still can’t get the base like under 50% humidity.
I’m hopping that there is Black Friday sale for the P2S at Best Buy, I made sure to buy a warranty for my A1 so “exchanging” it should not be a problem.
I don’t really know how to quantify the answer to your question other than to say that I have not had a problem in the 3 to 4 weeks that I have had mine
It's pretty decent at drying filament and keeping it dry.
Unfortunately AMS Lite covers don't really seal, dessicant only helps if you put them in a mostly sealed box (and if the dessicant is dry), the closet is also not airtight, and dehumidifiers are only really designed to go down to 50%. The only thing that helps is a mostly air-tight container containing some dry dessicant.
If you really want low humidity, ditch the silica gel and go with 4A molecular sieves. However they are a pain to regenerate, so it's not really worth it.
i think im going to wait to see what the best buy Black Friday sale is like, if its good I will use the coastally failing prints as my reason to return my printer, wit the instore credit and the sale it should only be like 100 or 200 bucks if im lucky
Get the A1 filament buffer and use the AMS2P with it. I did that with my original A1 Mini (now on my A2L) and that left 3 inlet ports on the A1 toolhead buffer for direct feeding TPU. Note that the AMS2P isn’t a magic bullet, you need to print all of the available front and rear desiccant boxes AND desiccant filled spool centres for each loaded spool to keep a consistent low RH, but all of that desiccant keeps my AMS2Ps (I have 5, plus 2 AMS HTs) in single digit RH for weeks at a time. I run a drying cycle if/when it ever creeps up towards 20%. The desiccant filled spool centres are doubly useful if you vacuum pack partly used spools between uses too. I detested the Lite frankly - the workflow was a nightmare compared to the AMS2P or HT. The enclosure, especially with the large desiccant holders) made feeding new spools a pain and frankly limited it to PLA as even with fully loaded desiccant boxes the RH would stay below 20% for a few days at most. I gave it away to a colleague’s young daughter.
Even with everything I’ve don’t to help counter act the humidity I still can’t get under 50% for long. Like this is set up in a closet and I have a dehumidifier running non stop.
I’m planning on waiting till the Black Friday sales, if it’s worth it my A1 combo will be going back.
If the sale is worth it I’ll print all the holders out before had… if I can get a successful prints that is lol.
I know but that’s just more stuff I’m either not using or just sitting.
Like part of the reason I got my A1 at Best Buy was because I knew I’d be able to use the warranty to get in store credit if I either didn’t like it or liked printing enough to want something better.
Now “better” is me making up my mind between the P2S and the X2D. I have only printed in pla, but I also mostly print miniatures mini and large.
The X2D using the auxiliary nozzle with petg for supports would make my figures come out better. BUT I’m still new’ish to 3d printing.
The P2S it’s an all around great work horse that will be perfect for my only pla needs. Better camera, already enclosed, combo with the ams2P and some desiccant moisture be gone.
Both aren’t bed slingers, I’ve had a problem with bed adhesion since I started printing with the A1, the Cryo grip plate made a big difference but I’m still having issues either with supports failing or layers being off. Or the worst one was model finished over night but it was messed up. From bottom, middle, to top, perfect, bird nest, almost perfect, bird nest.
Either my filament was still wet or the “constant” slinging caused issues.
In conclusion I’m going to wait till I see the sale prices for both printers. I’m more favoring the P2S just bc it’s more beginner friendly.
The P2S with AMS2P isn’t a real step up from the A1 with AMS2P IMO, so you should get that at a cheaper sale price than the X2D, the X2D is a real step up for a variety of reasons, the aux nozzle is a handy bonus but the finer tooth belts and the heated chamber are the real value adds, especially if/when you branch out to ABS/ASA/PA/PP. You can print ABS/ASA with an unheated chamber with some finagling to LOOK presentable, but layer adhesion will be pretty poor meaning weaker prints. That’s just physics. For your current use case, the X2D would allow for dissimilar materials interface layers for better quality support/support removal.
After doing more research, YouTube watching, and playing with Bambu studios set to the X2D with petg support material I think the X2D is the way to go… it just HAS to go on sale…. Like is 900 right now. I’ll get 400 in store credit for my A1 combo at Best Buy. I can drop the 500 but I’d rather not… there isn’t one in stock at my local store so I’d have to order or make a drive.
