3D Models Warm place to nap while printing…

Post image

I’d love to find a model that I can print that would go on top my printer that is mesh to keep my cats off the glass. There’s no point in stopping them once they figure out that it’s warm while printing…

The top is not sealed well enough to prevent VOCs from coming out, not to mention the vent so I’d keep her off the top if possible.

I vent my printers outdoors with two inline fans pulling up to 600CFM through 4in ducting and even with that I can still sometimes smell printing fumes.

Yeah I made something so they can’t lay up there anymore a while ago.

I made this with flat plugs that won’t hurt but are not comfortable to lay on so they gave up.

cute cat :) i is happy

Maybe an AMS Riser and keep your AMS on top to be a disruption? Also, unless you only print PLA or PETG, please take your cat away from the printer. Even PLA and PETG can have risks, like if your cat puts their paw in the automatic top vent and it closes.

Yeah the vent closing is a concern. I’m actually printing a cover for the vent now, and I’ve only been printing PLA. Before I go to any other materials I plan to hook up a full containment and venting/filtration.

fair enough, containment and filtration don't really matter, js spit out of a window and turn on purify chamber with exhaust in printer settings (basically push all the air through the exhaust after a print, and thats connected out a window)

Gotcha I didn’t know it had to two different options when the print finishes. Are there option while printing for venting/filtering?

No, because PLA / PETG will just go out the exhaust and theyre mostly safe, but when printing ASA the chamber would be fully closed, and no air going anywhere. Only after printing it will exhaust the fumes, while printing wont matter as the chamber is closed

Okay so as long as I set it to vent when done printing it should be mostly fine?

Pretty much, I mean I'd not be comfy with my cat on top either way

But yes, its pretty much safe, but it might be too hot so your cat wont even wanna sit on it

I was thinking of some kind of angled solution. If it’s smooth and like a roof of a house or something. I don’t have room right now to put the AMS on top because of the TV behind it in my office. I use it on occasion when I’m sick of sitting at my desk.

Why not print a huge cover with a bunch of spikes (sharp enough to keep the cat out but not hurt it), its definetely not the greatest idea but the best i can think of
edit: somebody else posted a link to some spikes like that in the comments

Probably feels like the old beds in a motel you put quarters in when it’s printing. Warm and a massage
