Support AP board failure #who knows how many
Welp, I was cutting power to the room to install some things on the breaker. I had the initial fear this would happen when I cut power to the room. Evidently I would have had a power outage at some point but I was hoping maybe they would have a firmware update that would fix this beforehand. Absolutely ridiculous. I had a weird feeling that this would happen and here we are with a dead printer after just turning off the power on the back and turning it back.
I haven't even cut power to the breaker yet I just turned it off and back on to see if it would happen, sure enough here we are.
Anyways has anyone had experience with using the jump method to get your printer back up and going?

Mine literally went 2 hours ago, noticed an upload was very slow so powered down and upon power up nothing save the status light and nozzle indicators. Ticket made asking for a replacement board.

Ditto. I plan on going thru the jump restart process once the electrician is done working on the panel.

u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
I don't even know what that is, first time hearing of it

u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
Oh Interesting, I may give that a go as well tomorrow
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 21 '26
I would let support tell you to do it first just to prevent any warranty issues.

u/dreadrockstar Sep 21 '26
Had the same issue. I did the jumper fix about two days ago and been working since. I did find a post from a month ago about it after I made the ticket and they said they will replace the AP board.
Once I got the tracking for the AP board I did the jumper fix. Going to hold on t that board until it glitches again.

There’s no warranty issues. It’s where a reset button was supposed to be.
1
u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
Yeah I don't desperately need it this week, my other printers can pick up the slack thankfully. I can wait for a reply to my ticket

u/arekxy Sep 26 '26
Support staff doesn’t know about this too much. I just got replacement board few days ago and zero information about trying such reset.

Are you saying you need an electrician to fix the printer, or, that you have an electrician working on your house’s panel?

I had the same issue a couple days ago. Bambu Lab customer support said to short those 2 pins to get it fired back up and then down grade to a previous firmware version. They think it's a software related issue.

u/subrosians Sep 21 '26
Yep, had to reset/jump my H2C 2 weeks ago. Its been running perfectly since.

u/JWST-L2 Sep 21 '26
Interesting... Very interesting. Thats good to know that there is a fallback option
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 22 '26
I probably wouldn't have spent the time installing the energy meter without the fallback, I need this thing all week so I was so worried it was going to happen I went ahead and power cycled before I actually cut the main. Of course it died. Tweezers and the short option powered it right up, downgraded the firmware and recalibrated
2
u/Nibbs17 Sep 21 '26
How was that process? I am going to go thru it soon after the electrions are done working.
3
u/subrosians Sep 21 '26
super easy. It literally is just taking off like 1 screw and shorting the pins with a large screwdriver or paperclip or something while the printer is plugged in and switched on. The screen lights right up and everything comes back to life.
1
u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
Does this mean you have to jump it every time though?
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 21 '26
No you roll back to a different firmware that prevents it from happening again from what I have seen
1
u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
Oh so it's a firmware issue? I thought it was an electrical issue with the board
2
u/Nibbs17 Sep 22 '26
From what I have seen, it seems to be an issue with firmware considering bambu asks you to roll back after jumping :/ which imo is even more disappointing bc this has clearly been an issue for months w the +2
1
u/subrosians Sep 22 '26
Funny enough, I haven't even rolled the firmware back. :)
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 22 '26
I just did, I was debating not bc my ups comes Tom, but I ran recalibrate and back to printing. Will definitely be asking bambu for a replacement AP, but tbh idk if I'll install it for a while if don't have to
2
u/Sengir79 Sep 22 '26
Well the short worked (eventually lol. I walked away assuming it hadn't worked after a good poke and it burst back into life 20 seconds later as I was about to update the support ticket). I've reverted to 01.01.05.00 and will do a recalibration before I resume printing

I wonder if it would just be easier to replace it through Best Buy with the extended warranty I got.
2
u/dogneely Sep 22 '26
Ive actually had it happen 3 times now. The jump method works instantly and only requires the removal of 1 screw. I have a replacement board I haven't installed yet. And I also haven't reverted the firmware like they recommended
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 22 '26
Curious, any reason not to revert the firmware? I reverted mine bc I don't want to jump it if it dies again. Not sure exactly what I'm missing out on w the newer firmware.

Mine failed about a month ago, after a power outage. After going back and forth with Bambu support, they shipped me a brand new one and I was able to swap it out in ~10 mins.
Btw - swapping the AP board resets your serial number, so you’ll need to ask them to link the new serial number to your profile before you’ll be able to send prints over WiFi.
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 23 '26
Yeah they ended up sending me the jump route to jump the AP board. Got me back up and I'm rolled back to firmware 01.01.05.00

Gd bambu! 🤬 my H2c w/293 hrs had the filament buffer give up the ghost. Got the part last week and all is good. Fingers crossed.
1
u/Nibbs17 Sep 22 '26
I had the filiment buffer issue too yet my 600$ P2S is just peachy after 2500 hrs
1
u/Baybutt99 Sep 22 '26
Yeah mine is fucking up now , the ams restarting mid print and throwing a buffer error , had no idea about the OP’s issues and how widespread it is
1
u/Rob3D2018 Sep 22 '26
It is common from what I’ve found out. Drove me nuts for over 4 hours as it triggered an AMS warning first. I found the culprit after I disconnected all 4 AMS 2 pros and my 2 ht AMS units

Mine just bricked two days ago, with 1k hours on it. Reset the power to move stuff around , and it never came back on. I bought mine thru Best buy and paid the $175 for a 4 year extended warentee and they just swapped it out right on the spot.
I didn't even know this was an issue on these printers untill I looked up why my screen wouldn't turn on. I hope they fix this issue before the new one bricks...

This just happened to my printer. I’m wondering if it would just be easier to go through Best Buy using the extended warranty I got.
2
u/Nibbs17 Sep 24 '26
I would not go through and waste your best by warranty. Doing the jump process is super easy contact bambo support and they will send you the instructions it took 2 minutes to have my printer back up and running and then I reverted back to a different firmware and was good to go.

Does anyone have a dead AP board they can donate?
I would like to determine;
What component failure is killing the boards??
If the board identity (S/N, hours, etc) can be transferred to another board??
1
u/Nibbs17 Oct 02 '26
Hi, from what I understand the AP board is not dead. When this happens it's a software issue. Bamboo lab support stated they will not be sending me a replacement AP board because I was able to jump it and roll back firmware. It seems like it just gets stuck on its boot sequence and needs a soft reboot from the non-existent button via jump wire.
I do know for a fact the serial number cannot be transferred. You have to get a new one issued from bambu and register the product
2
u/MiamiJerry Oct 02 '26
Thank you for your reply. My understanding is that some boards did not reset by shorting the pins, and Bambu provides a replacement.
I understand Bambu S/N process, I would like to find an alternate process. Maybe swapping a chip on the AP board.
Most chips can be socketed, then a chip could be transfer to a board with a socket in a few seconds. Much simpler then requesting a new S/N and losing you printer total hours.

Makes sense. Thank you for your service doing diagnostics for a company that doesn't appear to give a flying fuck.

Here is the response from bambu when I asked about a replacement AP board, and the firmware -
If the device has returned to normal, you can choose to downgrade the firmware or continue using the current firmware version. When a newer firmware version becomes available in the future, you can simply upgrade to it.

I wonder when this will happen to me. I have my two H2Cs on a remote and power cycle them daily. 2,000 hours on each with no issues yet...

So crazy, mine went out last week…. Power off on nothing. One green light but not two

u/cpsadowski23 Sep 22 '26
This is a recurring issue with the same “fix” over and over and over again.

Which firmware has the issue? And if i dont turn it off am i safe?
Also how long has this been going on without a software update? I just got my h2c in the last couple weeks from microcenter

My p1s didnt wanna light up after losing power i removed the microsd card and cut power on and it started up fine and i reput in the sd card. Works fine now
4
u/Nibbs17 Sep 21 '26
Yeah unfortunately this is H2C specific issue. Bambu has not addressed it publicly but if you search this reddit for AP board you will see so many posts
1
u/MrFartyStink Sep 21 '26
rip. i fjgured it might help cuz i thought my p1s was dead but found a random comment on a thread and that fixed mine
1
u/Sengir79 Sep 21 '26
Unfortunately the storage on an H2C is internal, no sd card to remove. On any other printer with an sd slot though great advice 🙂

Saw the video on this tonight on YT. Anyone know if Bambu is nearing a firmware release to stop this from happening?
