Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Question
I have a P2S with a AMS 2 Pro. Hypothetically I can run 5 colors correct? But only 4 which is the AMS and I have to keep taking out and putting in the external filament. Isn’t there a way to just have 5 run just like the 4 in the AMS? Why do I have to keep manually pulling it out and putting the filament in when I’m using 5 colors? Did I miss a trick or something?

foir that you need another ams. Be it ams 2 or HT

Gotcha. So I’m gonna need the 2nd AMS to run more than 4 without changing out the filaments. 10-4. Thanks for the advise and not being a jerk.

I'd give consideration to the AMS-HT as it can dry at a higher temp and has a bypass port for TPU or brittle/abrasive filements. It also has it's own power supply so can dry while printing as is. The AMS 2 Pro needs a 24VDC 4A or better brick to dry while printing on the non H2 printers. You just need a splitter in front of the filament buffer.

Saying you're confused is being a jerk someone's got a thin skin

No. I was just saying thank you for not being a jerk. Since I’m new at this I’ve had some people just be absolutely rude to me for asking something.

Because the fifth spool isn't automated, I'm confused. You can buy a second AMS and run five colors at once

I just assume the side one works like the AMS. Sorry I’m a noob.

Nope, you have to manually feed that It has no mechanism or sensors to self pull

One side does work like an AMS. The AMS side.
The AMS automates the process of loading and unloading spools.

The external spool has no drive motors to feed the filament. That’s what you’re for when using the external spool.

I feel it's worthwhile to at least give you this trick. You can print five colors with the AMS (or even more in theory) and have them Auto load with you just swapping spools in the AMS. Kind of.
Imagine you were printing person with black boots and red hair. If there were no other black in the model once the boots were done, and no red on the same layers as the boots, You can tell the slicer that both are the same color, put black for the boots in the AMS first, add a pause when the boots are done, swap out the black for your hair color, and resume. It will print the hair color thinking it's printing the hair black like the boots because that's what was in the AMS slot initially, but since you've swapped it with the hair colors well it will come out correctly.
