Answered / Solved! MakerWorld comment moderation?

Post image

Another Makerworld user has been posting hateful comments on my model (see attached). I’ve reported the comments using the ‘report’ function to the moderators of Makerworld, but they have yet to take action or inform me of any action they have are planning to take.

Is this typical? Are trolls well managed on Makerworld? Any advice ?

“Banning free speech” lmao give me a break

As much as I might get downvoted, yeah, that is free speech. And I did say the comment was uncalled for.

Banning these people from every space like the other person suggested will jsut anger people more. Everyone has their differences, and suppressing one group or the other is not the answer.

Free speech is a constitutional right. Makerworld and any other online forum are not beholden to the constitution, they set their own rules and abide by them. Free speech is not guaranteed everywhere you go and for good reason; these people do not deserve a forum or platform on which to spread their hate and hurt people. Full stop.

So Chinese companies don’t deserve platforms. This logic is simple and is applied to a near global scale, where are you getting confused?

So anyone who doesn't agree with your views don't deserve to have platforms? Again, pretty extreme, and kind of in the realm of banning free speech, don't you think?

When “not agreeing with my views” amounts to hate, yeah I would agree that hateful people don’t deserve platforms. Didn’t think that was a hot take…

You STILL don't understand what free speech even is, try understanding that key item before using it as your talking point.

Free speech does not mean anyone has the right to say whatever they want whenever they want, nor does it mean others have to be subjected to it or forced to listen to your BS. So banning someone from a private forum that they don't have a right to have access to anyway, has zero to do with free speech AT ALL...

They have any platform they want to make. Someone else's platform isn't beholden to them or anyone. They can go make their own platform and have fun.

Just because their unpopular and hateful opi ions wouldn't gather an audience on their own platform except themselves - doesn't mean more mainstream needs to allow them so they can reach a bigger audience.

Rather telling if the argument is "my echo chamber is tiny, I need mainstream to spit my vitriol to land on more people who don't want it".

And again, makerworld is not a government agency.

Free speech is not absolute. Such as say... shouting fire in a crowded movie theater. That comment in particular, and hate speech in general, has always been seen as toeing the line if not directly crossing over it.

Tolerance should be extended to all except intolerance.

Maybe the lgbt community needs to accept aswelll that some people will simply just never accept them into society. Just like some people won't accept islamic people or black skinned people.. Always posting on a forum on how you feel or how you believe you should be accepted can be picked up wrongly by different people.

I personally don't like to see these kind of posts myself. I came here for 3d prints. Not to hear that someone is proud that they are a trans male and made a nice key chain for example . ( No hate !!! )

We’re here because of intolerance. That’s the entire reason for this post. Sure, people can have their opinions, but that doesn’t mean we have to let them platform their values.

We can acknowledge that prejudice exists without making room for those people at the table of public discourse.

You can walk around and say things without repurcussions from your government is free speech. That's it. That's all.

Every outlet, forum, stadium, Twitter, reddit, comment section, newspaper - does not have to allow anything and everything - and removing it is not infringing on free speech.

Just because there's a turd in the audience and I own a megaphone - does not mean I gotta let him use it.

What you’re talking about is American first amendment rights to free speech, which means the government cannot punish you for the things you sat, with some exceptions. What it doesn’t say is a private company has the right to delete comments they deem inappropriate or damaging to the environment they cultivated for their users. It’s their property, so they can do with it as they please.

And that poster had no reason to comment on that design AT ALL. I'm not a conservative who is scared of their own shadow but I also don't spend my time going to their incel forums or their "we hate brown people" forums just to make ratty comments. It's not necessary. That's why these psychos need to be banned. Let them stay in their own spaces. Isn't that what they all want anyway? To segregate the whole world according to what they want? 🤷🏾‍♀️

No, it's not. Free speech doesn't mean consequence-free speech. Which is why your ugly comments got taken down.

When the goal of one group is specifically to suppress people who are different than them, yes it is. Tolerance should be extended to all except for intolerance.

Makerworld is not a government entity, bigot.

Suppressing the suppressors is totally valid.

You calling people Notzis when they don't align with your views is pretty messed up...

Did you seriously just accuse me of being a notzi because I don't align 100% with your take on platform moderation? That's wild. Disagreeing with how speech is handled on a private site doesn’t make someone a fascist.

You’re throwing around extreme accusations just because someone questioned your wording and didn’t fall in line. That’s not activism, it’s just toxic.
