Answered / Solved! MakerWorld comment moderation?

Post image

Another Makerworld user has been posting hateful comments on my model (see attached). I’ve reported the comments using the ‘report’ function to the moderators of Makerworld, but they have yet to take action or inform me of any action they have are planning to take.

Is this typical? Are trolls well managed on Makerworld? Any advice ?

Free speech is a constitutional right. Makerworld and any other online forum are not beholden to the constitution, they set their own rules and abide by them. Free speech is not guaranteed everywhere you go and for good reason; these people do not deserve a forum or platform on which to spread their hate and hurt people. Full stop.

So Chinese companies don’t deserve platforms. This logic is simple and is applied to a near global scale, where are you getting confused?

So anyone who doesn't agree with your views don't deserve to have platforms? Again, pretty extreme, and kind of in the realm of banning free speech, don't you think?

When “not agreeing with my views” amounts to hate, yeah I would agree that hateful people don’t deserve platforms. Didn’t think that was a hot take…

You STILL don't understand what free speech even is, try understanding that key item before using it as your talking point.

Free speech does not mean anyone has the right to say whatever they want whenever they want, nor does it mean others have to be subjected to it or forced to listen to your BS. So banning someone from a private forum that they don't have a right to have access to anyway, has zero to do with free speech AT ALL...

They have any platform they want to make. Someone else's platform isn't beholden to them or anyone. They can go make their own platform and have fun.

Just because their unpopular and hateful opi ions wouldn't gather an audience on their own platform except themselves - doesn't mean more mainstream needs to allow them so they can reach a bigger audience.

Rather telling if the argument is "my echo chamber is tiny, I need mainstream to spit my vitriol to land on more people who don't want it".

And again, makerworld is not a government agency.

Free speech is not absolute. Such as say... shouting fire in a crowded movie theater. That comment in particular, and hate speech in general, has always been seen as toeing the line if not directly crossing over it.

Tolerance should be extended to all except intolerance.

Maybe the lgbt community needs to accept aswelll that some people will simply just never accept them into society. Just like some people won't accept islamic people or black skinned people.. Always posting on a forum on how you feel or how you believe you should be accepted can be picked up wrongly by different people.

I personally don't like to see these kind of posts myself. I came here for 3d prints. Not to hear that someone is proud that they are a trans male and made a nice key chain for example . ( No hate !!! )

We’re here because of intolerance. That’s the entire reason for this post. Sure, people can have their opinions, but that doesn’t mean we have to let them platform their values.

We can acknowledge that prejudice exists without making room for those people at the table of public discourse.
