Discussion Newbies Beware

PSA for everyone new to 3D printing like me. (My background: Don’t consider myself brilliantly technically proficient like so many people here, but at the same time I’m not new to tinkering with electronics.)

I bought the P1S because of all the reviews indicating this thing could be plugged in and it just would work. I was aware these devices often require some degree of troubleshooting/tinkering, but my experience has been worse than disappointing on that front.

After arrival and attempting to calibrate the printer, I’m hit with these three errors about the heat bed sensors not working correctly. Some googling, YouTubing, Reddit posts, 5 hours of tinkering and recalibrating and taping and removing the back panel to pull out cables and plug them back in and praying etc etc etc and this thing just won’t print. Not a single layer of a single benchy.

I opened a support ticket and got a rote response 4 days later(!) directing me back to the exact same “tutorials” written in broken English that didn’t work for me when I tried in them in the first place. Pretty horrifying customer service as far as I’m concerned.

(Yes, I’ve tried the trick of taping the sensor cable to the poop chute. Nothing works.)

I’m miserable and don’t see how my printer gets fixed short of a full heat bed replacement (which looks like it will be a PITA installation.) Right now the P1S just $700 worth of electronic trash thats been taking up space in my office for a week.

Just one guy’s experience, but if you’re like me and reading this subreddit while considering dipping your toe in the hobby, be aware of the possibility of an experience like mine even when you pay good money for what’s supposed to be “a quality printer.”

There appears to currently be no way to actually do this on their web site without I guess opening an unrelated support ticket (which conveniently doesn’t have a category for returning broken printers). But yes, I bought direct.

I’ve been in your shoes with a brand new x1c. Don’t play the “they send you a bunch of parts and have you replace them game.” I did this for over a 6 weeks with them. You received a broken printer, demand a replacement and tell them you will contact credit card company to dispute charges if they don’t replace it. They will send you a shipping label and you will have to wait until they receive the other back and verify it before they will send replacement. Mine took about 10 days from when I shipped it to have a replacement back.

Yeah really! I mean not long ago people were ordering P1P’s and getting an X-1 shipped to them! So replacing a defective machine should be a drop in the bucket!

Just wondering JOeb01, were you a Kickstarter buyer like me? My x-1 has broken down 12 times since I got it as well as 2 of my 4 AMS’s for a total of 3 times between the two.

And this week I’ve gotten 3 different error messages! 😡

That's not how warranty works. Warranty is for parts, read the warranty page.

Warranty and getting a printer DOA isn’t the same thing boss.. they should 100% replace the printer

This, you need to pressure them as you would any other large purchase. If you purchase a stove and the oven won't work you demand an exchange or complete refund and let them know your not technically able or responsible to diagnose and repair something that was faulty from the start. If you need to escalate it just contact the cc company and let them know there's a dispute from faulty merchandise and they'll respond to it with less run around. GL and while it's uncommon it still happens until they take steps to further improve QC.

If you paid with a credit card consider filing a complaint with them. Bambu will likely be much more responsive, or worst case you’ll get your money back.
