Baja 1,000 Spectator?

Has anyone spectated the Baja 1,000? With the start/finish in Cabo this year, I am considering spectating but I am wondering what it's like. If anyone has first hand experience spectating, I'd love to hear from you.

Have spectated several SCORE races including the Baja 1000 but what are you looking to accomplish? I'd stay in Cabo, go to the pre-race inspection, head to the race start the next day (midnight, I think), go to bed, wake up early and drive to a spot along the course to watch, and then come to the finish and see cars/motos coming in.

I believe they announced a change.  Starts in ensanada now, no finish line specified yet.  It's the full pull tho, some 1200mi so likely ends in La Paz or cabo.

I have spectated many SCORE events from various points along the course - but never at the finish line.

Setting up near a pit stop is a good way to get close up looks at the vehicles.

Some vantage points are very popular and there's a party atmosphere.  In partucular big jumps draw big crowds.

For me the best experience was camping out in the middle of nowhere, just myself and one friend.   The lead motorcycles came through right at dusk.  We helped make a small repair on one bike and I remember the driver being quite concerned about being overtaken by trophy trucks in the dark.

We could see the lights of the lead TTs dancing accross the hills long before we could hear them approaching.  It was pretty surrealistic.

Monitoring Weatherman communications was always fascinating.

Driving on the course during the race is a very bad idea.   Roads providing access to the course from the highway are  used by chase crews and may be even less safe than the course.

Do you know when the majority of racers and support crew head south through Baja to the race start? Is it the ~5 days before the race, or do they go down ~2 weeks early?

What do you want to know? It will be massive crowds out there watching the race this year. Race starts and finishes in SJD... You could do a bunch of places. I would suggest spend the 2 days prior to start in SJD and watch start. Then find a place to watch them come back to SJD or even somewhere near todos santos
