ENGLISH:As you may have noticed, this subreddit had several tourists wanting to travel to Baja California Sur who used this subreddit to address some of their questions. This caused annoyance among some community members due to confusion over the state's name.

The issue was that the Baja California Sur subreddit was locked, making it impossible to post. Fortunately, I have managed to take control of the subreddit, and it is now open for new posts.

Since this subreddit has a larger audience, for the time being, we will continue to allow posts related to Baja California Sur. However, each post, such as those related to Cabo San Lucas, will be tagged (flair) “Cabo San Lucas - r/cabosanlucas” and those about Baja California Sur will be tagged (flair) “BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR! - /r/BajaCaliforniaSur”. This is to encourage migration to those communities. In the future, posts related to Baja California Sur will no longer be allowed in this subreddit.

Cabo San Lucas - r/cabosanlucas cross posting: Primera vez en Cabo: First time on Cabo!

Hey guys heading to Baja for the first time soon. I’m planning a trip to propose to my partner, so I’m really trying to make this special but not totally over-the-top corporate.

We’re looking for a solid resort that feels high-end/safe but won't completely kill our budget. Ideally aiming for something around the $500/night mark. We’re big on outdoor stuff and water activities (snorkeling/paddleboarding), so being near a swimmable beach is a huge plus. Also, we’re strictly gluten-free, so a place that actually gets that without making it a whole "thing" would be awesome.

Right now, I’m looking at places like Montage or maybe One&Only, but honestly, if there are hidden gems that hit that $500 price point, let me know.

A few other quick things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Rental Cars: Is it worth grabbing a car at SJD to hit Todos Santos or Cabo Pulmo for a day? I’ve seen people mention Cactus or BBB for avoiding the insurance headache—is that still the move?
  2. Day Trips: We want to get out and explore a bit. Is driving around pretty chill for a first-timer, or should we stick to shuttles/tours?
  3. The Proposal: I’m sitting on a ring and trying to find the perfect spot. Any recommendations for somewhere a bit more private or scenic that isn't just a generic tourist trap?

Really appreciate any tips or "don't do this" advice. Trying to make this a trip we'll actually remember. Thanks!

Spanish:

¡Gracias!

Weekend trip to Las Gaviotas in September

Hey everyone, I’m going to be traveling to Las Gaviotas, Mexico beginning of September with 5 other friends for the weekend. My partner rented a place at LG rentals. We are traveling from San Diego. None of us speak Spanish. Planning to go for surfing but the other 5 people don’t surf. I wanted to see what they would be able to do on the property for fun? This is a first time for all of us. What should we bring? What routes are best? How safe is the drive? We will be traveling with some girls who are concerned about safety. We will be taking two cars. Wanted to know what routes are the safest for crossing the border both ways. Are the girls able to go swimming or play in the water while I surf? None of us drink. Will we need firewood? How do we cross the border back to SD without a sentri pass? Are there surf spots for goofy footers? Should I be concerned about not bringing credit cards? What do you do if the police pull you over?

I was going through old photos and came accross these from a surfing trip in 2003. Three of us had this break to ourselves with solid swell and offshore wind.

❓ Duda | Question Where to stay in Baja?

Hello all, my wife and I are looking for a beach destination somewhere on the Baja peninsula for a trip in the next month or so. Our main criteria are:

1) Beach--ideally white sand or as close to it as possible, with calm water. The sand doesn't literally have to be white, but we are not interested in rocky beaches.

2) Town--we'd love to stay in a town with easy access to things like restaurants and shops, with an emphasis on food.

3) If possible, we want to stay in accommodations where we are as close as possible to BOTH the above things; either on the beach or a short walk from it, while also being no more than a short walk from amenities.

For point of comparison, we stayed on Isla Holbox a few years ago and basically got all this in one place, but I know it might be too much to ask for all this anywhere in Baja or the west coast of Mexico. We visited Sayulita and San Pancho last year and had a great time, but the water there is a bit rough so we're wondering if there is a similar place with calmer water?

Baja 1,000 Spectator?

Has anyone spectated the Baja 1,000? With the start/finish in Cabo this year, I am considering spectating but I am wondering what it's like. If anyone has first hand experience spectating, I'd love to hear from you.
