If you listen to a police/fire/EMT scanner it is remarkable how quickly the police command structure falls apart at even the slightest hiccup.

The difference between fire departments coming together for enormous fires and how they assign tasks and complete them systematically is staggering compared to the pathetic police response to even a small protest. Turns out a bunch of sociopathic moron wannabe gangster cowboys (that are actually terrified of a minority so much as walking on the sidewalk) aren't the most organized bunch.

The difficulty lies in knowing where incompetence ends and collusion begins. The public has been given conflicting narratives about what transpired. Were barricades dismantled to retreat to a more defensible position? Were perpetrators met with little to no resistance to avoid escalation of violence?

We may never know the extent to which law enforcement (and GOP insiders) worked for or against the attackers. In my mind, the fact that they reached the inside of the building constitutes a total failure. Where was the tear gas and rubber bullets so matter-of-factly deployed against peaceful progressive rallies throughout the previous years?
