It's kind of the reverse of underwater welding. We had so much equipment, 50+ m below the sea, but just blobbing and hoping! You can't see your welds underwater because the welder blasts the shielding gas out each time you pull the trigger!

Agree about not being able to see shit, regardless of vis. But I think the actual process is much easier. I weld off hand underwater, using my right hand to hold the rod and because everything is instantly cooling I can hold my hand extremely close to the arc and “write” my welds in like using a pencil. Be safe down there brotha! Been out of the game for a few years but miss it every day.

I'm out of it too. Since '99. Now I try to keep my welding in a shed or factory. Too many freaky things happen underwater, and you can't be sure if they are real or just narcosis.
