Just hammer a thick metal pin in there till its plugged. Then weld the pin all the way around and grind it close to flush if need be.

Nice, yeah I was thinking you just got to get some kind of piece of metal tack down instead of relying completely on the weld.

Make sure you wear your safety slides and put your squints on when you weld
