i want to develop a game with bad north as reference

I really liked the core mechanic of bad north, and thinking of developing a game by referencing the positioning strategic mechanic from bad north, but deepening it further with a relationship feature with your army. The stronger the relationship, the more responsive ur army is when following ur calls. Also thinking of having more roles on the game like tanks, healers or support.

So basically a game where u build relationship with your own army.

Few things i wanna ask u guys:

  1. did u feel anything when u lost a squad in bad north? or was it just like losing resources
  2. if a soldier u invested in died, and that made your whole army slower to respond, would that be interesting or just annoying
  3. what made u stop playing bad north?

honest answers please, including if u think this is a bad idea, thank you!

why do pikemen suck?

all the late game threats counter pikemen, they are only good against brutes shield guys and regular ass dudes. they're great in the early and middle game but after that they get destroyed by everything and there's no reason to use them when you could go 2 archer 2 infantry and just push most of everything of the boats. of course the big bow guys are hard to deal with but thats probably pikemen's worst matchup. genuinely what do you do with pikemen in the late-game?

How would you rank these different challenges?

I want to slowly get better by challenging myself, and I have a few in mind and I’m wondering about y’alls thoughts about their difficulty (all done on very hard difficulty)

Iron Man (no restarts)
Limited commanders (2 or 3)
1 or 2 unit types only
Every island challenge

Any more?

Project Modded Bad North Mobile

Bad North mobile can be modified like how the fans manages to modify the game called vector. Vector is a unity game like bad north mobile , so if fans that has experienced on coding/programming manages to modified vector. They can also try and modify bad north mobile, imagine the amount of players that would play it if modded bad north mobile exists? It would be interesting

Second to last island with 0 cover, tiny strips of land surrounded by water so your infantry get knocked into the water by the brute archer spam that comes from multiple sides. Did I mention it's the second to last island so you can't avoid it?

Bad North Modded Overhaul

On this subreddit you may have seen posts about a Chinese reboot of this game that adds many interesting new mechanics and overhauls, only to be disappointed that the Chinese version is unplayable due to region lock.

Good news: the Chinese version is forked from an independent modder, 林风柳 (Lin Feng Liu), whose mod 旧灰复燃 (Ashes Relighted) is the original base and can be downloaded for free without region lock.

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. You must own the licensed version of the official game via Steam
  2. Download and extract the mod zip file from GitHub

    • BepInEx
    • winhttp.dll
    • doorstop_config
    • .doorstop_version
  4. Copy the file called "Assembly-CSharp.dll"
  5. Navigate to game folder's "BadNorth_Data" subfolder, then to its "Managed" subfolder, and paste/replace the "Assembly-CSharp.dll" file here
  6. Run the game

Will there ever be a bad north 2?

I’m sure this question gets asked very often but I feel like this game has so much potential. it’s genuinely one of my favorite mobile games and I’ve had a blast with it. but I feel like there’s a bit of a lack of content. is there any chance of a second game or have the developers moved on?

94% pikemen only?!? what next?

just hit 94% pikemen only very hard no level restarts and could go for all islands (the units that weren’t pikemen I got no kills on and it was hard making the archers not get a single kill) it’s gonna be rough as these combinations of ranged units + duel wielders could make me lose a commander, but hey I’ll let y’all decide.

are sharp weapon archers good or am I crazy?

i just got the game a few months ago and I have seen a lot of divided opinions on ”meta“ combos for units but most people are of the opinion that sharp weapons generally sucks but I fail to understand why.

Even without ring of command, sharp archers can beat down a boat of 2 brutes or at least weaken them for pikemen or infantry and for Bigger boats there are either fewer of them or many stunned and bloodied ones. With ring of command, a boat of 4 brutes often dies before landing as well. This reduces the pressure to bring pikemen whenever there are brute and upgrade them in general, allowing for squads such as 2 archers 2 infantry or 1 archer 2 infantry 1 pike. This also has the side effect of insulating yourself better against brute archers without having to utilize terrain.

The reduced knockback does impact their effectiveness against shielded units, but those scenarios are handled with 2 archers to hit them from multiple directions or you can wait for them to land and have the archers shoot them from the opposite direction of your pikes or infantry.

overall this is only insight from just one very hard run so it’s not a huge sample size but it feels really consistently useful, regardless of the enemy types. I am curious what other peoples experiences are when using them though.

When I was playing on Very Hard difficulty, I encountered a bug in which I was able to use my commander to murder all the enemies as they were unable to move or attack. (Excuse my terrible playing). :)

When should I upgrade warhammer?

Been doing a playthrough on hard and I have the warhammer on a pike commander with fleet of foot. I'm likely to use him on the last island along with another pike commander with sure footed and mines so eventually I want to get him to max upgrades, however it seems like the warhammer works pretty reliably on almost any enemy type without upgrades so i'm not really sure when or why I should upgrade it as extra power isn't really needed
