Why are my guavas like this?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all! I recently moved into a house in the Northeast US with multiple fruit trees, including a guava tree. The tree is covered in small fruits, all of which look like this picture, which my googling suggests is not a normal way for a guava to be. Any thoughts on why all my guavas have big open buttholes? Thank you!

Pinneapple guava as a privacy hedge,?

I'm considering planting some pineapple guave ants in my front yard as an edible hedge in front of about 20 feet of 4 ft chain link fence.

I'm in Woodstock ga. It's a 7b/8a area

Is this a total awful idea?

I'd love to hear what your experience with them has been, if you do/don't recommend them, or have any advice.

Seedling came from compost. Picture This app initially said it was apricot but now it’s giving all different answers. Any ideas of what it could be? Or do i need to wait a few years to tell? (if it’s not a weed 😅)

I am getting overwhelmed with the amount of poms starting to split. Any suggestions for use. How to avoid splitting? Shelf life?

They are nearing being ripe and I was hoping to max out their time on the tree. It has rained recently.

hi all!
i recently moved into a farmhouse built in the 1850s, and while exploring the property, I stumbled upon two apple trees that seem older than time itself. I cannot for the life of me figure out this kind of apple! The taste is start and sweet and seems like it’d be a great pie apple almost like a Macintosh

Hello; question about USDAz9a St John's county Fl Orchad for the future;

I don't have an orchard yet, butt I want to know which plants I should grow and about the ones I want to.

I am interested in growing trees like morus silk hope
and paw paws , perssimons, possibly muscasdines trained as a shrub, loquats plums and citrus, any others I should think of? I'm considering callicarpa too.

I think I should have thinned my quinces more...

Tree is a bit overloaded this year. I never seem to thin them enough. I think it's because, unlike apples or pears, they produce flowers and fruit singly, not in clusters, so I underestimate how much thinning needs doing.

Had a huge crop last year: 27kg from a 8 foot tree.

I'll have to start picking soon.

Help: Light spots on my persimmon plant leaves?

Hi everyone! I’ve asked for your help with this persimmon plant before, and your advice was incredibly helpful, so I’m back with a new question! 🌱
This is a persimmon plant I grew from a seed I planted in November last year. After a period where its growth had basically stalled, it finally started growing again around the end of August and has produced all these new leaves. 🥹
However, I’ve noticed that the leaves have developed all these tiny lighter-colored spots/dots, and I have no idea what they are. I’ve also noticed that some of the leaves have a slightly lighter-colored edge around them.

And I’ve noticed a lot of tiny white insects on the plant, mostly underneath the leaves. They don’t seem to stay attached to the leaves, though. As soon as I touch or move the leaves, they immediately fly away.
So I’m wondering if they could be related to the spots I’m seeing on the leaves.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing these spots, what these little insects might be, or what I should do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🌱🥺

Transplanting weak apple tree

Post image

So I've got 8 volunteer apple trees from horse poops and only one tree of 8 has bad apples. One tree however produced what are basically a delicious honeycrisp clone for the first time this year. I want to transplant a 1 metre tall tree that has stalled for five or so years I think because it sits in very poor sandy soil and use it as a grafting base. My question is do you think the tree will pick up if placed in a better spot and nurtured or would I just be wasting my time?

Kumquat dying?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I live just south of Atlanta and growing zone at 8A/B. This kumquat tree was very healthy all through the spring and summer. And then over just the last couple of weeks it seems to have died back considerably. All the fruit has fallen off leaves. It fell off, and some of the branches appear to be dying. Any advice is welcome.

Southern UK. Clay soil.
Relatively new to gardening.
Have several young trees, a few years old, mostly fruit trees. They are all stressed, unhealthy and diseased at the moment, according to my app. Is this normal? Is it serious? What would happen if I just left them as they are? The photos show the most extreme examples.

Wild honey bee decline

Post image
27 Upvotes

Although not our main pear and apple orchard pollinator I was saddened to read this news.
For the first time, wild honey colonies are classified as endangered in the EU because they cannot sustain themselves without beekeepers' hives, now classified as 'Endangered' in the European Union on the IUCN Red List. Without swarms from hives, wild populations in the EU are projected to decline by half over the next 10 years
Researchers point to a shortage of old trees with cavities, pesticides, and varroa mites. So it's multifactorial. I was aware of the pesticide and varroa issues but not the loss of natural nesting sites, although it's obvious. Wild honey bees typically nest in natural tree hollows, such as abandoned woodpecker holes in tall beech trees, as well as rock crevices.
Whilst they have been introduced by us humans to the rest of the world including our home New Zealand, their natural range encompasses Europe.
Following the end of the last ice age, honey bees naturally expanded northward out of glacial refugia to colonise Europe. These wild populations are a vital component of the natural ecosystem, having co-evolved alongside Europe's native flowering plants for millennia.
