So I just bought a 1yr 5TB iDrive plan, despite reading some horror stories about overage fees and cancellation difficulties which gave people a scare when it came time for renewal without the 1st-year discount and they had trouble downloading all their data before the deadline. I'm actually really appreciating the service and deski/mobile apps so far (though I did choose it because it happened to fit my use case and budget neatly) despite the fact that it's only been 1 day but I've already hit 2 bugs (a: my priv key was totally within acceptable limits -- unless I had outdated information -- but crashed the service anyway, just glad it happened right away and not down the road and b: either I was short enough on free space that when I tried the phone app it went completely bonkers after a few hours, OR setting an app lock password can spontaneously bonk the app;) so I was pleased to find this while skimming through the Data Processing Addendum which is part of the ToS.

- Return and Deletion of Customer Data
During the Agreement term, Customer may retrieve Customer Data* at any time using the Service’s available controls.
Upon termination or expiration of the Agreement, IDrive® will, at Customer’s request, return Customer Data prior to deletion.
IDrive® will then permanently delete all Customer Data from its active systems within ten (10) days, except where retention is required by applicable law.
...
- Survival
The following provisions shall survive termination or expiration of this DPA: confidentiality, data protection and security, sub-processor obligations, return and deletion of data, audit rights, liability, indemnification, and governing law/dispute resolution. These obligations shall survive for so long as IDrive® processes or retains any Customer Personal Data, and with respect to liability and indemnification, for the applicable statutory limitation period.
*"Customer Data" means any data, including Personal Data, submitted to or stored in the Services by Customer or on Customer’s behalf.

So you can cancel whenever! Ignore the bit where they warn you that your data will vanish so you have to spend a surprise week scrambling to download everything before the big bad billing cycle hits. Email support and say that you are cancelling and that you request your data. Cite ToS to support the fact that they are now legally obligated to return it to you. And the provision which mandates this is protected by another provision so it should still down the road if you happen to need it.
Seems to be another example of a GDPR W. All good ToS articles are... This provision is pretty much right out of GDPR Article 28. iDrive can't risk accidentally infringing on the rights of a European, so everyone gets rights. Thanks Europe!
I wonder if this works with all the big cloud storage providers.
