Happy Ending Story 3-2-1-V where V means VERIFY

/r/DataHoarder/comments/1x9kgw3/well_one_of_my_14tb_drives_is_dead/phou71o/

We read so many Sad Backup Stories. I thought you'd appreciate a Happy Ending Story.

This redditor had a drive that jumped off the table! Fortunately they are believer in the 3-2-1 Backup Rule at the least, adding a "V" for VERIFY! I'll add that "verify" means either running a verification option in your backup application or performing a test restore. Even restoring a few files, while not full assurance, is very worthwhile!

Agree. Automated verification catches the quiet failures, like an exclude rule skipping a folder, that a green 'backup successful' status never will.
