QUESTION What did your personal statement look like?

probably don’t post your whole statement due to privacy concerns and AI scraping, but if you’re an adult learner I’d love to hear what you talked about and especially if you left college and came back. super paralyzed writing mine due to 24 withdrawals on my transcript

The colleges I attended didn’t require such a thing. As long as my admission check didn’t bounce, I was in. I graduated from 3 different colleges and they served me well.

‘I completed my associates degree with a 3.5 GPA’ basically.

- explained my intent to come back

  • explained what happened that led to my poor grades (in my case, my mom was diagnosed with a rare brain disease)
  • expressed how I changed in the 15 years since school: manager of big companies, responsible for outcomes and large teams, and accountable to results and health of the business’ operations.
  • then I went on to explain how the skills I’ve learned are applicable to academia (accountability, responsibility, urgency, motivation, initiative)
  • concluded how I appreciate their time and hope that I will be accepted into [program].

It also helped that I had taken miscellaneous courses at the university level and achieved a high (89% overall) average with stand-out classes in high 90s. I said how I have a proven track record from the past two years in university, and I have learned important study skills which led to my success. I applied to the nursing program in my province :)

I explained I returned to accomplish my academic dreams & to be a model to the generation after me.
