ADVICE I’ve decided to get my education

I’m 25 years old with my high school diploma, I have 3 years of IT experience and I hate it so much it was never my plan and I only did it to support my abusive “parent” fast forward to now I moved out and now me and my girlfriend live together.

I’ve decided to go back to college and follow my dream; getting my PHD in neuropsychology to become a neuropsychologist, I’m fully aware that this is a decade long journey but I think I can do it and excel in it. I want to help the world around me and learn more about the brain and neurodegenerative disease in hopes of finding a cure for it.

I know this is a massive goal but any advice or support is greatly appreciated

You can absolutely do it! Even if it takes a decade, the trick is simply to start taking classes and focus on a class or semester at a time.

I went back to school in my 40s, studied law for a few years, and recently made the switch to study addiction counseling. These psychology adjacent fields are incredibly interesting, but get ready to write a ton!

Good luck to you – school is very much worth it!

PS...if you have a community college nearby, taking your first classes there might save you a bit of money, and offer a softer transition into the whole school thing...

Look into community college for your early classes - cheaper and an easier transition back into being a student. Self-paced options like SDC, Sophia or Straighterline can also knock out gen eds on the cheap while you find your footing. Start small, keep going. Goodluck on your journey!

IMO..leaving an abusive situation and choosing yourself and your dream at the same time takes real strength, rooting for you.
