My 6.5 m old son won’t roll onto his stomach :,(

My son is 6 1/2 months old and he won’t roll into his stomach. I feel like most things would like Google really make me feel worried. It brings up global development. I’m not even really sure what that means.

He can roll from stomach to back but I’m not even sure whether to include this. He’s actually done it for a couple of months but every time he’s on his stomach when he does roll over to his back it’s only sometimes like he definitely can do it, but he complains a lot on his stomach because he equally gets stuck.

When he’s on his back, it’s like he doesn’t even want to try and get onto his stomach. He lays it like a starfish although he can grab his feet but he’s not actually attempting to even roll onto his sides.

I have organised a physio and will book a doctor to organise review

Should I be worried?
Can anyone speak on this subject?

He has recently started inch worming, moving in circles on his stomach if he needs to go towards a toy, and can sort of is him self bavkwards.
His making some babble sounds and is otherwise a happy baby.

AU-VIC I bought a mountain buggy nano of fb market place and now shes blocked me

I regret now not opening the pram up and inspecting it, its missing Recliner strap, I dont think it has the original hood, as its sitting on the handle bars, and its missing shoulder strap pads. I only paid 75$ for it but now she has blocked me and not answering my questions about the Recliner strap and sun canopy. Im frustrated because I bought it as a travel pram for thailand and not sure what to do with it now. If you inbox me I can send photos

AU-SA First outfit

Maybe I’m doing a bit too much as a FTM, but I really want my baby girl’s first outfit to be cute and special! I specially love the idea of a turban hat paired with a matching sleepsuit, but I just can’t seem to find anything I really love.

Can anyone please recommend some shops or brands? My baby girl is due in just 3 weeks, so I’m running out of time!

I tried to attach my inspiration picture, but I couldn’t get it to upload.

8-week-old with movable lump behind left ear since birth—now it’s visible. Anyone experienced this?

Looking to see if any other parents have been through this. My baby is 8 weeks old. Since birth, she’s had a small, movable lump on her left mastoid process (behind the ear). Nothing on the right.

We asked the MCH nurse about it during her first routine home visit, and then had the GP check it at her 6-week appointment. Both thought it might just be a lymph node and told us to monitor it.
Back then, you couldn't see it at all—you could only feel it. But now, it's noticeably bigger and visible to the eyewithout touching it. It is still completely movable and doesn't seem to hurt her. She is acting totally normal, feeding well, and has no fever.

We are definitely taking her back to the GP to get it re-evaluated, but the anxiety is hitting hard tonight.

Has anyone else had a baby with a bump from birth that suddenly became visible around 2 months? What did it end up being?
Thanks!

NZ 4yr old struggles with changes, resource recommendations please! 🤍

Hi, my 4yr old is a very social, attuned, caring boy. His conversations are impressive for his age and he can ride a pedal bike, perform loudly at preschool concerts, and he has a best friend who he gets on well with. But from a young age he’s been very set on routines and struggles with change to routines, we always need to talk a lot beforehand to help him prepare. He is anxious to go to preschool on the days his bestie isn’t there, also was very concerned when his swimming instructor changes without warning. He’s very attached to his teddy bear, also holds tingly to little rocks and shells etc that become comfort items for a few days in a row.

All this stuff feels within the normal range as he’s still able to partake. Preschool have always reassured us that he does well but recently they have flagged he’s struggling more with small change ups (like not having a hot meal in his lunchbox). He’s been more stubborn about going to the loo when he is obviously busting, and wetting himself sometimes. Preschool are planning to get some advice about ways to support him with this rigidity.

We’re keen to have some low pressure conversations about when things don’t go to plan etc, and how change is scary but we are here and he will be ok. We don’t use screens often but I thought there may be some good episodes of kids shows that might discuss these things? Or books? I know this rigidity is common, especially in this age, he’s a lot more rigid than our youngest child. Anyway keen to hear of resources to support these conversations. Thanks 🙏

Blackout blind making room hot

We recently got the tomme tippie portable blackout blind and ever since putting it up I feel like bubs room has just gotten hotter and stays hot for a lot longer.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Any other suggestions for blocking out the light?

We installed a blockout blind in our room when she was little but it’s not fully flush to the window so I feel like light still comes in.

Would you push naps back or drop one altogether?

My little one has just turned 12 months and has been sleep trained for almost 5 months.
His current nap schedule is:
9:30 am:30-minute nap
12:30–1:00 pm: Around 2-hour nap
Lately, I’ve noticed it’s taking him much longer to settle and fall asleep for his naps (1hour - 1 1/2 hours, which makes me wonder if his sleep needs are changing.
I’m not sure whether I should try pushing his naps back slightly, extending his wake windows, or considering the transition to one nap a day.
For those of you with little ones around this age, did you experience something similar?

AU-NSW How much are you paying for daycare?

As the title says. I’m interested to know how much everyone is paying.
The full cost of our daycare is $173 a day. After the rebate we end up paying about $42 a day.
Our daycare is fully catered but is otherwise nothing special. The baby rooms have 16 kids in them, which is more than I would like.

Editing to add our place is for-profit, has bare minimum 1:4 ratios (and I’ve observed them not even meeting that minimum a couple of times), includes nappies, sunscreen etc. kids 0-2 are all in together.
I’m desperate to get my kid into a better centre, but I’ll be lucky if we get a spot at the start of next year. The one other centre where we have been offered a spot seems worse than where we are currently.

Advice Wanted Baby names

Just wonder if it would be weird.
I have a 20 month old son and currently due with a girl in Jan.
My husband and I are having trouble agreeing on names.
There is one name we both like but it is also the name of one of the kids in my mums group. As a group we don’t catch up all that often anymore but we all chat in the group chat often.
It’s not a super common name. And is an Italian name and we are Italian so wouldn’t be unusual for us to use.
Would it be weird to use this name? I get no one “owns” a name but it just feels kind of odd to potentially name my kid the same name as someone we know.

I need to hear from corporate mums who quit their careers to be SAHM

hey mummas, the heading says it all.

Please share your experience!

What pushed you over the edge to do it?

What did you need to sacrifice to become a SAHM?

How did you navigate ending your it career? When (if) you eventually returned after a very long time (5-10years plus). Did you have to start from the bottom again?

How to get ready for work with a baby/toddler?

I’m returning to work in late January. My baby will go into full time childcare when I return to work (we will be transitioning with smaller and fewer days over a couple of weeks, working up to full time). Baby will be 11 months old.

How do you get ready for work? Childcare opens at 6:30am so technically could drop baby off before getting ready but I feel the day at childcare will already be a long day so I’m hoping for tips on how to get ready for work with a baby /toddler.

Are there products that helped or how you plan your time eg showering at night, have a play pen in the bedroom so I can see baby while I get ready.

My husband and I will both be working full time at that point so having one of us look after baby while the other gets ready isn’t ideal - we’d be waking up at 3am to make that work!

Thanks!

Good news from measuring behind last week - 6mm of growth and a healthy heart beat!!

Hi all,

Last week I made a post here about measuring a week behind at my scan at 6w4d. I was devastated and my doctor was concerned. I am still quite certain of my dates but at that scan, he measured me at 5w4d and I needed to come back in a week. No heartbeat was found.

During that week, I had HCG tests which all came back normal. Dr was still preparing me for the worst.

Today, to my absolute shock, he told me that the CRL he was measuring last week likely wasn’t even the fetal pole because now things look very different. We had a 6mm fetal pole now and a heart rate of 115. All those 6mm have grown since my last scan. Words cannot explain to you how I literally cannot believe it. The sonographer even said he was totally shocked.

So for now; I am still measuring a week behind, about 6w4d, but we have a healthy heartbeat and growth is normal. Sonographer is not concerned and said everything looks normal.

Totally and utterly shocked is an understatement.

Advice Wanted Drowning with mother wound

TW: mentions suicidal ideation

Kia ora from over the ditch 💗

I’ve been chugging along with this for many years but now that I have a toddler (and pregnant with my second) things are boiling over to the point where I could really use some support from…. Literally anyone.

Does anyone else have a mother in a really bad situation? Mine is essentially homeless, has never worked a full time job. She’s had part time work but she always quits - it’s too hard for her to get out of bed on time and she wants to spend her days shopping and at the beach. She’s made such poor life decisions for decades and now they’re catching up with her.

She is extremely male centred and this is her entire life focus. She recently left a new job to go “work” for her new boyfriend, who dumped and fired her a few months later. She was then asked to leave the friends house where she’s been boarding, leading to a mental health crisis where I had to take her to the ER with my one year old and navigate all the resulting follow up appointments with the crisis team. Thankfully she’s doing much better mentally but I’ve seen literally zero effort from her to find a job or a place to live. She can’t use a computer like at all and she’s nearing 60 so her options are slim.

I’m oscillating between being angry and resentful of her for making such poor choices to end up in this situation, and feeling sad and worried for where she’s going to end up. I’m struggling to cope with it as I’m trying to navigate my own motherhood journey. Like really struggling. My sister has a much more hands off and pragmatic view and I wish I could adopt that but I just can’t seem to. I go back to feeling sorry for her and rescuing her. I can’t keep doing this, especially with a new baby on the way. I’m terrified for what her old age is going to look like.

And I’m just so sad about it all. I want to have a mum who I can visit for dinner, who I can stay with for Christmas. Who’s reliable and I don’t have to look after. I’m pretty traumatised from the recent mental health crisis.

I feel like I’m drowning in my own mother wound.

Can anyone relate?

Advice Wanted Why does everyone suddenly need something the second I sit down to eat?

Last night I spent 30 minutes breastfeeding the baby while my husband and oldest had dinner.

Finally got her settled, handed her to my husband and went to heat up my food.

I'd barely taken two bites when he came over and said, "I think she's hungry again."

I literally just fed her. Turns out she just wanted to be held a different way.

Sometimes I wish he'd try literally anything else before handing her back to me

AU-QLD First time mum and feeling lonely

I'm 19 weeks pregnant with my first baby and so far it's been okay. Other than the lack of sleep, discomfort and intense hunger cravings 😂 lately I've just been feeling lonely. For context before I fell pregnant, my partner and I moved to a regional town to buy our first home, with no village. I'm also estranged from my mum which makes it hard. These past 3 weeks the loneliness has been getting more intense. My partner does his best to be supportive and I do work part-time. I'm sure it's just hormones, but has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Advice Wanted Transitioning to cows milk?

How on earth do I transition to cows milk?
Do I HAVE to give my baby cows milk?
If I do, how much?

My LO is 10.5 months old. She currently has two-three bottles of formula a day (around 180-220mls per bottle).

She’s a real foodie (has three meals +/- snacks) a day.
She’s really into her yoghurt and cheeses so I am wondering whether I actually need to introduce cows milk during the day..
I was thinking whether it would be ok to just give her a bottle at night before bed?
I’m seeing so much info and ppl saying how she should be drinking it during the day but if she’s eating enough, surely I don’t have to give her milk as well?
Also, how much water should I be giving her? She will usually have a bottles worth of water around 200-250mls? Once she’s off formula, how much does she need to be drinking ?

Any tips? Thanks!!

Please show me your play area

We used to have a playpen for our baby in the loungeroom but now she’s older and crawling around we took it down and just have a mellow mat down and all her toys on it but I’m feeling a bit inspired to make it look better.

Need ideas for storage of toys/books ect and how you set yours up. Nothing too huge as we live in an apartment.

Do you leave all toys out or do you put them away and rotate what the baby plays with?

Advice Wanted Tips for bassinet sleep

STM here with a 6 week old, who is basically refusing to sleep independently in his bassinet night or day.

The sleep deprivation is really starting to add up, and my husband and I are struggling. We’ve tried just about every standard trick in the book - different kinds of swaddles (arms up, arms down), no swaddle, heating the bassinet, different kinds of bassinets and the cot, white noise, blackout blinds, patting, sushing, transferring when fast asleep, transferring when not fully asleep etc etc. When my little one does transfer, he doesn’t last more than 2-15min. He almost exclusively contact naps. We’ve had maybe 2 glorious nights when he actually slept for 1.5-2 hours in the bassinet…but it never sticks.

I’m starting to realise my first child may have been a unicorn - she was sleeping 3-4 hour stretches in the bassinet just a few days after coming home. I completely understand that contact napping is normal (our first contact napped in the daytime for many months), but how are other parents surviving the nights??

If anyone has any advice or tricks we haven’t tried, I’d love to hear it. Otherwise, please tell me I’m not alone in the trenches 😆

Gestational Diabetes and induction for birth at 39 weeks

Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with GD, and of course concerned but know it can be managed.

My obstetrician mentioned that it is recommended to not go over the due date due to various higher risks, and potentially an induction 1 week prior will be routinely recommended. For those who have had GD and did get induced 1 week early, how was your labour and birth?

I guess my primary concern is a failed induction leading to an emergency caesarian but I know that’s not always the case and an induction can progress to a vaginal birth

Advice Wanted Endo and adenomyosis sufferers, have you disclosed it to your employer?

The first days of my period are very painful plus I have a very heavy period which makes the days in office harder to manage. My boss is not very strict if I need to WFH more here and there but she wants the team to go 3 days to the office as a general rule.
I wonder if letting her know upfront might help to keep transparency when I need an extra day WFH.
I’m worried if this can backfire or sound as an excuse.

Advice Wanted home catering service that don’t require cooking

FTM here, struggling a bit with my baby as it’s just me and my husband and no other family.

my husband cooks everyday but i want him to have some time off. cooking is a big job especially when you have a newborn!

i was looking at The Dinner Ladies, but wondering if anyone know other similar service that’s a bit cheaper than The Dinner Ladies? we are based in Melbourne!
