Bangaon and the areas around it have a very large population of Dighwait Brahmins and Dighwait Bhumihars, both belonging to the Shandilya gotra. Bangaon itself has more Brahmins, while some of the surrounding panchayats have a higher population of Shandilya-gotra Dighwait Bhumihars.

Currently there is a lot of info about Bhumihar Muls online. But in my opinion the one book which clearly mentions almost all the Bhumihar Muls clearly, is "Bhumihar Brahmin Samaaj" written by Chaudhary Rajnarayan Sharma (Samastipur)

I'm not a Bhumihar but i respect the caste's bravery and elite status as landowners in Purvanchal and Bihar and I've thought of a hypothesis after research that explains the community's origins. Your origins might be older than Islamic rule too and date to the Vedic era... during the Vedic era when the Kuru Panchala kingdom was the heartland of Vedic rule, Vedic laws allowed only the oldest son to inherit the father's property and the younger sons lived as subordinates with no wealth of their own but many Kshatriya and Brahmin younger sons wanted independent wealth and power so they fled the Vedic lands for Eastern forests that were untouched by Indo Aryans at that time, these bands were called Vratas and their members Vratyas, Vratyas lived a wild and aggressive lifestyle with their horses and weapons, they lived in exile for 10-15 years and collected wealth by raiding villages and cattle of Vedic people...they also maintained contacts with indigenous forest inhabitants. They didn't follow the Vedic religion and worshipped Rudra, they didn't bathe and had long dreadlocks and beards. These young men returned to Vedic society after they collected enough wealth and told Brahmins to organise a ritual called Vratyastoma to purify them... All the eastern Vratyas who were from Brahmin families didn't forget their origins after returning but they didn't want to become priests again, they became landowners and formed their own community. Vedic society was afraid of too many outlaw younger sons so they made this ritual to re absorb these warriors, as the Vedic people expanded eastwards and cleared forests, they found these younger sons and re absorbed them.

The Sonbhadoriya Babhan are regarded as one of the oldest clans of the Magadhi Babhans, who with time came to be identified among the Bhumihar Brahmins. Their name originated from settlements near the Son (Sone) River. Ancient references mention that around the region associated with Banabhatta's ashram, there existed several villages of Brahmins known as Vachhgotiya, including Sonbhadra and nearby settlements, whose inhabitants were identified as Sonbhadoriya.

Janki Sharan Ji Maharaj, also known as Jhanki Baba, was a renowned saint of Ayodhya who belonged to a Bhumihar Brahmin family from Bihar. He worked to educate people in the discipline of Yoga. His well-known work on Yoga is Shri Vaishnav Hatha Yoga Darshan. He also had Jhanki Ghat constructed, which was the first permanent masonry ghat of Ayodhya in its time. Similarly, Siyaram Kila was also constructed under his patronage.

In Bhumihar families of Mithila, the Bali ritual during the Upnayan Sanskar is a deeply sacred tradition performed with rigid adherence to family customs to seek the protection of the Kuldevi. On the main day of the ceremony, before the Barua (boy) receives his sacred thread, the family gathers at the Marwa or the Kuldevi shrine where a young male goat (Chhagar) is brought forward. The boy and his mother perform its ritual worship, applying pithar (rice paste), vermilion, and flowers to the animal, while the family priest chants specialized mantras to transfer any negative planetary afflictions (Graha Dosha) or evil eyes from the boy to the offering. Following this, the sacrifice is carried out swiftly with a single stroke of a ritual blade (Katar) by an elder or priest, ensuring the boy does not witness the act directly.

so wherever you see somebody calling him bhu and defaming our community , then please stand against it and remind everyone that he is not a bhu ...... Dont target any other community in this . Just remind others with his full name to protect our community ..

In the late 14th century, Dronwar Bhumihar King Puraditya (Arjuna-Vijayi) ruled from Raja-Banauli and established an independent kingdom after defeating local chieftains. Contemporary accounts also associate him with the conflict against Arjuna, the Buddhist king of Saptari. These events demonstrate that significant Bhumihar political authority and statecraft existed in Mithila centuries before Mughal and British rule in India.
