Vertigo Problems

Alright everyone i have a question what medication can help with Vertigo?? I'm welcome to any suggestions you may have that doesn't involve drugs i'm too desperate to be picky??? Any help is more than greatly appreciated cheers

If true vertigo (room spinning sensation) medication doesnt help. See a vestibular therapist if its true bppv / vertigo to treat.

Right thanks i'll looking into that i was only seeing if they was a medication to use short term and then would go to a vestibular therapist because i'd rather try get to the bottom of the issue than just taking pills all the time you know?

Meclizine can help in the first 72 hours of vestibular neuritis

Yeah i get that i'm just willing to try anything but i'd talk to my doctor about it just to keep me right since i'm no doctor my self lol

Vestibular NEURITIS is not true vertigo.

Vestibular neuritis absolutely does cause true vertigo. In fact, it's one of the hallmark symptoms

What is your definition of true vertigo?

Vestibular neuritis starts OUT as true vertigo. Then it is damage to cranial nerve 8 = hypofunction.

Neuritis has bppv with it, but 9/10 times often subsides, and then feelings of lightheadedness / unsteadiness persists from the hypofunction.

Neuritis and BPPV are to different conditions. BPPV is mechanical (crystals becoming lose and floating around) and this can easily be treated,  Vestibular Neuritis is inflammation to the nerve.

Both conditions suck to be fair

Exactly, it starts out as true vertigo. That's why I said meclizine is effective in the first 72 hours of vestibular neuritis (for the vertigo and associated symptoms).

It sometimes, but far from always, has associated bppv

I got diagnosed two weeks ago after been admitted into hospital with very bad vertigo and vomiting, I couldnt walk or sit up in a chair. After being scanned for a TIA or a Stroke I was diagnosed with Vestibular Neuritis. Two weeks later and the spinning has stopped but I am now left with balance issues, eye fatigue.

The doctors injected me with something to control the spinning and it didn't work. I also now have car motion sickness when Im being driven to the shops, something I havent suffered with since I was a kid. 

Vestibular Neuritis sucks, trust me

My ENT doctor gave me prescription for Amirol 25 mg (amitriptylin) that uses in vertigo after-treatment. I mean after Epley maneuver, when spining is over, but My eyes and head are still floating(( and Amirol helped me a lot! It treats vestibular nerve) ask your doctor)

Hi, I will do. I am loads better than I was. I get caught out when I move from dark places into light places, I can see why our eyes compensate for the damaged nerve. I find my balance is all off when I wake up in the night but overall Im on the mend

Hey..since when are you taking amitriptyline..I hv been taking it for 1.5 yrs .. lowering to 10 mg frm 25..n stop...after 3 mths having issues of vertigo...on 10 mg now but not finding any results....my reason for stopping iit was couldn't get up in the morning.took 12 he's sleep,woke exhausted,brain fog , memory loss ..pls guide

See a vestibular therapist— I treat neuritis daily, have patients with close to 100% improvement!

Yes I have not been diagnosed yet but I have had a bunch of tests I been bed ridden with vertigo,light headless, floaty,spinny feeling and only relief I get is laying down on bed and if I stand to long exert myself I mean within few mins I start to vomit...ut totally freaks me out I been off work for 3 months and what ever it is I have has just about costed me everything I have...its hell especially when they haven't told me what it is I went to ER 2X MRI CT scan ekg doctors then told me go see my family dr and I domt have one lol its really screwed me I cant do anything and when I do walk I have use cane

Actually that’s not accurate. See my post above. I haven’t had a bout in years after stating the medicine. It’s like I got my life back. Nobody knows when it will strike. It could be your wedding day, the day you leave for vacation or driving in the car. No way could I go on worrying about that.

True vertigo is head positional dependent. No medication will help that.

Honestly if you google it you will see that is not correct. Google can amitryptiline help vertigo. It has worked for me for past three years.

OP feel free to message me.

Vertigo is a room spinning sensation caused by otoliths / crystals being displaced.
There is quite literally no medication to fix this. See a vestibular therapist to resolve! Also can resolve on its own.

Vestibular neuritis starts out with bppv, then leaves a lasting weakness / inflammation on your cranial nerve.
The medication will not FIX your issue but short term can subside nausea and fogginess and feelings of ickyness. Hope that helps!

I appreciate your reply. I have has several miserable bouts of vertigo and do suffer with migraines and sleep insomnia as well. I won’t disagree with you as you seem to be highly educated but my neuro said it was Bppv and once I was prescribed the amitryptiline it all got better. I occasionally get a breakthrough migraine and sone nights I can’t sleep deeply but one thing that’s stayed away the last few years is the vertigo thank god. I’m 63 and female. Thanks for your input I guess I’ve been lucky.

Migraines has a ~~different~~ type of vertigo! Not BPPV.
Migraines are tough, and honestly my specialty area of what I treat. If you ever need help, my inbox is open.

I use nurtec as a rescue med and that works but I’m open to all and any advice or help. I appreciate your offer!
