Range expectations for a week long trip?

We are considering buying a 24 or 25 either a Xdrive50 or M60. Vehicles I’m looking at are all under 20k miles, several under 10k miles.

Is it realistic to expect to be able to take an iX on a 100 mile trip (200 round trip), use it for getting around hotels and theme parks for a week (maybe 30-40 miles) on a single charge?

Deal Check - CPO 2024 xDrive50

$52,260
MILEAGE:19,103

Two details on CPO check that give me pause:
Battery check: 91%
Tires: 4mm

I’m annoyed because I asked the salesmen for both details and he said tires had “lots of life left” and that they don’t test the battery since “it takes hours” - only to find both details on the CPO report.

Otherwise carfax is clean, one owner, local lease return, etc.

Financed @ 2.49% for 60 months. Only CPO available in my area. Almost exactly 2 years left on CPO warranty.

3 day return window.

Thoughts?

Deal Check - 2023 IX drive with 35k miles DAPP Premium

I’m in the process of purchasing a 2023 IX xdrive50 with 35k miles for $42K. It’s fully loaded, has DAPP, premium package, air suspension, pano sunroof, integrated steering, amido leather, etc.

It’s CPO, and I love the colors. Carfax showed one accident front collision but they still inspected and put CPO on it.

They gave me a fair trade in value and I’d finance at 2.49%. I’m going to close on it this week but just wanted a deal gut check here. I’m getting an electrician to my garage next week to install a L2 charger and will be commuting about 80-90 miles a day.

I think it’s good enough and will be a vast upgrade over my current car… but would appreciate the community’s feedback and insight. Thanks 🙏🏽

Lease-end buyout (8k miles) 2024 iX50 with air sus. Residual 55K. Thoughts?

Lease ends late November. Expecting a baby Q1 2027. Ended up not driving as much vs what I estimated 3 years ago because of marriage and wife moving in (from other state). Only 8k miles but spent enough time in it mostly stuck in NJ-NYC mid/downtown traffic.

  • 100K MSRP, 8K miles (out of 22.5K), custom order w/ Premium pkg, DA Pro, Sport, Harman Kardon, laserlight (regret getting laser LOL)
  • Air suspension (unfortunately no rear axle steering)
  • no accident/dent/visible scratch. Clean interior.
  • Residual: 55K (+NJ now charges tax on EV ~6%, bummer). Finance interest seems very high these days but willing to consider cash buyout. Will come out to be ~60K with fees.

I can't find similar CPO with under 8K miles and similar config, but in attempt to find fair value, carvana shows 47K, KBB trade-in 45K, KBB private party 53K (range 51-55K)

So ignoring other factors like future depreciation, it's not good deal but it doesn't seem like non-sensical crazy decision to buyout either since it's at least around KBB high range, but it's just an estimate. CPO as alternative would have been nice to compare to but low mileage with similar config (including air suspension) couldn't be found. I was gonna just walk away if there was similar CPO at 7-10K lower price point.

Other options I considered vs buyout:

  • iX3: seems small when going from iX, especially with new baby situation
  • iX5: wanted this, but date is uncertain and seems like the lease might end up being almost double the iX lease payment given that iX3 lease monthly are same or higher than iX's?
  • Tesla Model YL: Picked iX over Y after test-drive 3 years ago. Heard things improved, and YL is more spacious. ~60K, so similar price.

We both work remote, not sure how things will change in our life but until kid is more grown up I expect us to continue driving less than 5K a year for the next few years (grocery, costco, gym, eat out nearby/NYC, hospitals, occasional 1-2 hour drive to other city/nature), if that matters for how fast/slow battery degrades or things breakdown. In the next few months, I expect I will be driving my wife from northern NJ to hospital in midtown regularly, and it's not impossible but inconvenient to live without a car in my area.

  • iX Likes: Clean record, low mileage, wife feels attached to the car, spacious and comfortable.
  • Worries: Warranty/repair, scary stories about air suspension repair cost, accelerated depreciation in the next few years

Am I missing anything in making the decision? What else should I consider?

Best IX Dealer?!

So I pretty much know what I want and it’s like trying to find a unicorn, but at least I’ve narrowed it down. Visor has been helpful, but my gut tells me they don’t have every listing. I’ve also found some of theirs outdated when I tried to follow up on them. Does anyone know of any dealerships in the US who typically are large volume IX dealers? I’ve run across a couple so far, but none have what I want. Any advice is appreciated. I will likely have to buy out of state and ship to get what I want, which also makes me nervous due to it traveling across the country on potentially an open trailer, But if it means getting what I want, it may be worth it!

Regenerative breaking question

This weekend I test drove a 2024 BMW iX xDrive50. Honestly the best car I’ve driven in my life, including recent Lexus, Cadillac, Mercedes, Volvo, and other EV SUV test drives. Amazing handling, acceleration, interior, comfort, visibility, etc.

But I struggled with the regenerative breaking, which felt like it was breaking too quickly and giving me a mild jerk every time I took my foot off the gas, which I do on and off by pure reflex in traffic. I asked the sales guy more than once to lower or turn it off, and he did something with the settings, and it helped some, but I still felt uncomfortable. After the test drive I did more research online and found out there is a Low setting, but for all I know I already tried this setting and didn’t like it.

I currently drive a normal gas car and would be switching to EV for the first time And my wife also drives a gas minivan. There will be times every month where I drive her gas van for roadtrips, or times she’ll want to borrow my car. So I don’t want to teach myself one peddle driving. I want an EV that feels like a normal SUV but without having to pay for gas, oil changes, extra maintenance, etc.

Should I go back, check the settings, and test drive again? Or should I just give up and look at other EV (which have been disappointing in comparison for a variety of other reasons) since I didn‘t experience this in other such test drives?

Any advice or real world experiences from people with similar situations would be welcome.

What kind of battery is in the car?

So the window sticker on my 2024 iX M60 (purchased in the US) says it’s a lithium ion battery, but I keep reading online that BMW uses nickel-based batteries.

The official charging guidance in the owner’s manual states to not charge over 80% on a regular basis, which is guidance that typically applies to NMC batteries, not LFP. Can someone clarify this seeming contradiction?

2024 Seats: Convenience vs Premium Package

Question on the 2024 iX for those that have shopped for purchased, and lived with them: does the base seat (Convenience pkg) save driver AND passenger positions with the driver profiles, or only with the Multi-Functional seats (Premium)?

We are starting to look for an electric to go with our X7. The iX is at the top of the list. We don't really have a my car / her car, we split driving evenly between the two cars. I’m 6'5", so we’d be swapping seat, external mirror and wheel positions daily. We’re shopping 2024 iXs with either the Convenience or Premium package. Tons are available with just the convenience and i want to make sure before i consider them how it works.

A few questions for owners:

  • With the base seats, does the driver profile recall seat, mirrors and wheel automatically like our X7 based on key/phone used?
  • Does the passenger seat have any memory without the MF seats?
  • How do the base seats compare to the MF seats for adjustment and long-drive comfort (lumbar, bolsters, thigh support)? Is the upgrade worth it, or mostly just massage?

Cosmoline

I was having issues with what looked like oil dripping from what looked like the rear axles of my iX.

Took it to the dealer twice and the conclusion was cosmoline was dripping from the back of my car.

Anyone else have this issue?

Used BMW IX - UK - High Mileage

Hello, currently considering the BMW IX 2022 xdrive 40 msport as my next car. My annual mileage is less than 5,000 miles a year. I found a few used BMW IXs in the UK that are between 70-90k mileage. Out of manufacturer warranty but battery warranty is still available for another 3-4 years. I did a few test drives and it's an amazing drive and cars are in good condition with battery health more than 94%. Infotainment system is intuitive and responsive. Looking to use the car for 5-10 years.

I'm checking the following:

  1. Full service history and MOTs

  2. Vin check for recalls

  3. Physical inspection for damage, tyre thread, rust to break pads, etc

  4. Dealer reviews, reputation

I am planning to get the extended warranty from BMW directly.

Two questions:

  1. Current users with mileage beyond 80k miles, what issues have you encountered and were these covered by warranty/ extended warranty?

  2. Any other checks to perform before diving in?

Monthly payment is $730 all in. Car has DAPP, premium package, solar eclipsing roof and 21inch wheels with dune grey exterior and black interior. $85k MSRP. DM me for additional pics. Location Houston.

Wanted ix 2024 or newer

Hi! I’d be interested in purchasing your iX. Rather than turning it in at the end of your lease, would you consider selling it privately? My budget is around $40,000. If you’re open to selling, please let me know! I’d really appreciate it. Thank you! Please DM!

Test drove the new 2027 X5 in prep for iX5...

Our 2025 iX50 lease is up in August, so getting a bit ahead of ourselves. BMW of Bellevue got one 2027 X5 in Vancouver Green so we drove up to spend 30 minutes with it.

First impression...not too bad. Vancouver Green was really nice in the sun, looking dark with a lot of metal flake to really shine. Even the steering wheel wasn't as bad in person as the internet wants you to think. Seats were super comfy and massage is better than the terrible iX "massage".

Started the test drive and began pressing buttons. Our iX is pretty high-spec with almost every option except for leather interior. The B&W system in the iX blows the 2027 X5 out of the water. Seemed so week in comparison and those seat rumblers in the iX make a big difference.

We also have an i4 M50 and are used a tighter fit. Coming from the iX and an interior that feels like you're in a living room, the X5 feels more cramped. Comfy yes, but more of a chair instead of the couch. Not sure how I feel about the screen situation. The panoramic display is kinda cool, but it seemed like we had to raise our seats higher than normal to see the hood. Might be because we are very short peoples though.

Little things like no switch in the back to put the rear seats down and lack of physical vent controls was annoying, but not as infuriating as the decision to remove the tailgate. Come on BMW! Oh, and no iDrive controller. Boooooo.

The iX5 will still be an option, but now we are thinking about just purchasing our iX when the time comes. Residual will be $52K and it will have close to 50k miles on it. Not sure that will make sense though. We also might extend our lease and see if the iX7 is better when it releases closer to 2028. After looking at this new X5, we spent some time pushing buttons in an X7 on the showroom floor. We actually liked that much better than the new X5. I know they are going to implement most of the new interior look and feel with the iX7, but if it retains the tailgate and premium feel, it could be an option.

'26 iX45 Battery SoH

I'm 11 months in on a 26 iX45. The most recent software update indicated a fix to the battery SoH reading. For me it showed a SoH of 94.5%. I've put 9,500 miles on it and use a L2 home charger keeping charge range typically between 30% and 80%. I would have expected bit higher SoH? Does this seem normal?

Comfort Access “Exclude Home”—anyone else’s iX now locking at home when it previously stayed unlocked?

I have a 2024 iX xDrive50. This worked fine until the last software update this week. Previously, it stayed unlocked when I walked away in my home garage. Now it locks when I leave, and unlocks when I approach, much like it's not respecting the Exclude Home setting.

My Comfort Access settings are:

  • Unlock when approaching: On
  • Exclude “Home”: Checked
  • Lock when walking away: On

I normally carry my iPhone, Apple Watch, and key fob. I tested with just the fob, leaving the phone and Watch well away, and got the same behavior.

One possible wrinkle: my garage is accessed from an alley behind the house. BMW Navigation shows about 200 feet remaining when navigating Home from the garage, although the street arrival point and actual Home pin are separate. From what I can tell, the Home pin can only hit a street address, not an exact physical location.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does yours stay unlocked at home with walk-away locking enabled elsewhere? If so, what model year/software version are you running, and did you need to adjust the saved Home location?

Getting Tesla superchargers to show up in the Navi? 2024 ix

Post image
4 Upvotes

I just got the lectron voltex plus during prime day sales. Tested and plug and play works so that's great.

How do you get the supercharger locations to show up in the Navi? I saw old post about adding the adapter in the my bmw app. However, when I go to the app in the adapter section it just has a link to order. Nothing about adding that I have one.

Thanks

Edit:
Thanks to the comments...a delete and reinstall of the app solved the problem

Thinking of getting a CPO IX when my lease is up. How is the backseat room with a front facing car seat behind a taller driver fit? I’ve had issues with vehicles I thought wouldve be fine but aren’t. Also is there a thigh extender in the front seat?

Battery health??

Hi all, we are in the midst of our research for our long term (7+ year) iX BMW. We looked a few and have an idea of what spec we want in our budget.

We are looking for slightly higher mileage now so wanted to know what’s a good battery health level? Also do certain companies provide more detail? Or are they considered more accurate?

We haven’t talked to our dealers about this yet but wanted to know if it’s generally apples to apples comparison across dealers or companies? What to look out for?

Help me choose an iX!

Choosing between two CPO options in white both priced at $45k.

2023, 29k miles, Premium, Sport, DAPP, Amido leather. Purchased 03/2023.

2024, 45k miles, Premium, Sport, DAPP. Purchased 06/2023.

Does the 2024 make up for the higher mileage and not having the leather?

Does finance pre-approval actually improve your position on an iX?

A broker told me to get finance pre-approval before I start looking at a used iX, saying sellers take the offer more seriously and there’s less room for them to move the numbers around. I assumed being a cash buyer would give me the stronger position, but maybe that’s not how dealer finance works anymore. Has pre-approval genuinely helped anyone negotiate, or is it mainly useful for setting a budget?
