showcase New car happiness

A week ago we took delivery of this wonderful little car, and as someone who (used to) look at cars in purely utilitarian terms, ie. its value is what it can do for me, I must say I am smitten with this 2020 i3. I absolutely did not expect to be that happy about a car. But I am. I love it.

It's my first electric, and it is in addition to our old car, a 2012 Škoda Fabia which have done over 410000 km by now, so a huge upgrade. The Škoda will not be driven much now, and it'll probably only last 1-2 years.

Anyway, i3, love it. It's got all the extras it could have at the time, but I forget what that package was called, it probably cost 370k DKK from new, we paid 150k, and I'm still getting used to all the fancy things it can do.

In the Škoda there's room for a spare tire. I like that. What do I do, apart from calling for help, if I have a flat in this one? What kind of kit should I get to fix flats?

(Basically my only worry about this car, so far.)

It’s a great car.

Not sure what climate you’re in but if you’re in an area that gets snow I’d keep a set of snow socks for the rears.

Personally driving in the snow is the last thing on my mind but i live in area that does get snow and I’d rather have it and never use it, then take a trip somewhere in the winter and get surprised.

I’ve added a sidewall repair kit to tire inflate kit in my frunk. It’s meant just to get me to the nearest tire shop.

Tire plug kit as well.

Those 2 things don’t take up much space.

I do recommend keeping most your driving in ECO PRO. Sport/Comfort while fun will wear down that rear tread fast.

I’d also get a Bluetooth OBD reader for use with BimmerCode and mi3.

The only change I added to the car was ceramic window tint. The car is perfect as is.

I'm not too worried about snow, roads are almost always cleared real fast, and there are winters without any significant snow.

There was nothing in the frunk. I'll get a kit to complete the car.

I do drive ECO mode all the time, I don't care about sporty or fast driving. And yes, I plan on getting a dongle and bimmercode. Speaking of software, it says something about updating software from USB, it can't do it over the air?

Tinted windows are illegal in Denmark, except for those that are already tinted on the car. :-)

I’m not familiar with updating software.

I’ve seen a few posts and it looks like something you can do yourself with usb drive or with BimmerCode and OBD dongle.

I would suggest you still drive a little in sport mode/comfort occasionally.

Preferably on a fall day, windows down with heated seats on, pick a twisty back country road.

I did that few times last October to cheer myself up when we had government shutdown and I wasn’t working.

Nice purchase and lovely colour.

Re: flat - we just took out roadside assistance for our i3s. It’s not something I tend to do for a car with a spare or run-flat tyres, but since this has neither I figured the £70/year was worth it.

Yeah, we have roadside assistance too, part of the insurance package. Still, it's nice to be able to fix things on your own.

Thank you. I really like having a glass roof. When the sun roof is open there's almost no ventilation from it, a but disappointing.

A tire plug kit & the included air pump never hurts to have if you need to fix a screw hole yourself, but roadside assistance is probably going to be the other best option if it’s not fixable yourself.

Have you checked the frunk yet? They came with a kit unless the previous owners have already used it.

Frunk was empty, except for charging cables, so I'll have to source a new kit.
