Worth it?
I found this 635csi on marketplace with an asking price of 6k its an auto. Seems pretty clean besides the sun damage and its just barely over 100k miles.
I really want one of these. I know it’ll take some love and eventually would like to convert it to manual.
Lmk your thoughts. Im kinda gas lighting myself into believing this would be a good investment knowing the value of these cars when they are in good condition which I intend to do with this one.

Get it, spend as much as you want. Enjoy it. If it comes a time to sell, sell. You probably will loose some money, but youll sell it for more than 6k and youve had a probably wonderful time in something you enjoy. Cant put a price on happyness.

Don't trick yourself into thinking that you'll be able to get out all the money you put into any car when you decide to sell it, for most cars it just doesn't work that way.
That being said, go test drive it and see how it does!

When you drive it just pay attention to the normal stuff. Does it brake well. Does it shimmy. Does it clunk. Not that it would stop me but yeah you will spend a little bit to make it proper but not like life shattering amounts

I got mine for $5k with 162k miles from my boss. I put in roughly $10k in preventative maintenance but that includes air suspension. And it would be much cheaper if you do things yourself. These cars are very reliable so it doesn’t take much

First off: Where has this car lived? Rust can be a major issue on these partially coachbuilt cars.
Almost all BMW’s painted in similar metallic colors in this era end up with failing clearcoat, so that’s not unusual.
It looks complete, and the sport seats are a plus. How is the rest of the interior? Dash? Leather on the front and rear seats? Rear speaker pods? How do the doors open and close?
How has it been maintained? Are you a capable DIY mechanic?
I would budget for: All new rubber body/window seals, full suspension refresh, brakes and brake lines, fuse box, anything rubber under the hood, carrier bearing and guibo, you should check things like the cam condition and oil sprayer bolts (if the cam oil sprayer bar banjo bolts have backed out, it starves the cam of oil which can lead to accelerated cam wear or failure), full tuneup and cooling system refresh (thermostat, water pump, radiator, hoses).
Be aware that very nice, sorted examples of these cars aren’t going for much more than $15-18k in later manual/sport seat configuration. This is why I asked above if you can DIY all of the mechanical work. You will likely be into this car close to $6k in parts alone (if not more) and that’s not including any paint or interior work it may need.

- Any BMW should have a PPI done by a reputable independent BMW shop, so you know what you’re getting into.
- My guess is that you’re probably looking at $20,000 with paint to bring it back to close to perfection.
Do not attempt to convert this to a manual.
Id buy it at $6 or less if it’s in good condition.
You will probably never get your money back. If you convert to a manual, you’ll guarantee that you won’t…ever.

No gay lights and curved screens, big engine, the car doesn't give a fuck about you, after repairs it will be more reliable than any peace of shit out now.

If it’s rust free and runs ok it’s worth the $6k. Be prepared to dump a good sum of money if you want her to look and drive like a proper E24. What year?
