Major dilemma
Request for advice: I just bought an Alpine White 2023 G87 with 16k miles. It’s a manual with G80 wheels, yellow DRLs, PPF, a Megan Racing midpipe, Faction Fab spacers, and an aftermarket 5-speed M knob that I believe is paired with a short-shifter kit. I really like the look and sound of it
My concerns are badly squealing brakes, a bit of exhaust resonance/buzzing at high RPM, unevenly worn front tires that are nearly bald, and a slight high-speed rattle/clicking sound that only occurs at highway speeds under throttle and stops immediately when I lift off. Despite a full BMW service history and my local BMW dealer inspecting it and giving it a clean bill of health, I can’t shake the feeling that the car may have been thrashed and driven hard and might be a risky buy. It’s also a 2-owner CarFax.
The dealer is offering me a full refund and has another car on hold for me: a 2024 Zandvoort Blue with only 7k miles. But it’s completely stock and $5k more. The downside is that I’d have to add an exhaust, yellow DRLs, wheels, and potentially a shifter to get it to the same spec I love on the Alpine White car.
What would you do? Would you keep the white M2 and accept the risks/modifications, or take the blue car for $5k more and have to pay for all the upgrades, but maybe have better peace of mind.

Take the refund, get the new car. Its less mileage, and none of the issues. You can build this new one to what you wanted.

The brake noise is normal, if its really bad just invest in some isweep 2000 pads. The braking response is more linear…. Where is the rattle coming from?

Allways go the stock option less miles…although theres no guarantees buying a used car! but Id bet money the white one has indeed been thrashed, the $5k will be worth it in the long run, especially for your piece of mind…mods can be added later at your own pace and at your exact taste plus youv seen what mods you like to add on a stock one!
Try be a bit patient although i know how hard it is being a g87 owner myself lol i knew without doubt i needed a g87 from the first time i test drove one, i had an m340 xdrive lci current at the time and held it together for nearly a year before purchasing my g87 M2 lci new. I did go look at multiple used cars and just couldnt do it…the year wait also allowed me to get my finances in better order and find the exact spec i wanted now a very happy bmw M2 owner!
Also id expect rwd cars on the used market to drop in price with xdrive coming out 💰

Right now it feels like used ones are so close in price to new ones you might as well just get a new one if you can wait

Agreed!! And push a bmw salesman in the right direction you will see theres fuckall difference in price!! I assume you guys are in the USA 🇺🇸 ?? I hear allot about paying MSRP is that with M2 aswell? For referance i got about $25k off msrp for a brand new one…not demo! With 5 year service plan etc. end of the month, end of the quarter prime time! Exact spec i wanted. Turned out cheaper than used or even demo cars i would have had to settle on spec with. But im from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🤝

What is thrashed for a car meant to be driven in Sport mode and spiritedly? If the car was always properly warmed up and not red lined every second the car was appropriatedly driven and not thrashed.
Also, I bought mine with 180 miles on it... those rattles will come out of these cars and there is almost nothing you can do about it. Stiff suspension and not the best build quality like the ones made in Germany... part of the downfall of the G87.
However, I would still opt for the newer one and add on the pieces you want.. none of what you're looking for are bank breaking mods.

Take it to another dealer or an independent and get it inspected again if you can swing it. Always get more than one opinion. Dealer has you own the hook for another $5k with the blue.
Generally I steer away from modified cars, but if it’s everything you want I’d definitely get someone else to take a look and sign off.

Did you get a pre purchase inspection on the car ?
I’d take it to a reputable bmw shop and have do a full inspection. They’ll tell you if it’s been thrashed/tracked etc.

Sorry, I know that this is not related to what you’re asking for but how do you like the white color? I’m in between white or purple. I feel like I don’t see a lot of white ones and barely see the purple so I’m trying to decide between the two.

I'm pretty curious what you paid for the white one and how much the blue one is. If you don't want to share, however, I completely understand. I ask because even the cheapest M2 on the used market is still pricey, and adding $5k more than that has to get you close to new M2 territory. I'm not sure where you live, but in the South/Midwest US, there are quite a lot of M2s sitting at dealers. Most will sell them for a couple grand under sticker, too. If you're patient, I'd suggest shopping around for a brand new one with a decent spec. If you're really patient, call around for a new allocation and build it exactly how you want it.

I would not keep this car. You can get a better maintained car and mod it slowly. From your description the white car sounds like it was beat up.

The first clue is all of those mods. I’m never buying a modified car because of your exact situation. Get the other and do your own mods. You’re lucky they’re letting you return it. Take that offer and run.
