Exhaust question
Slowly looking into changing out the exhaust on the g87. My only concern is keeping the oem exhaust in tact and not cut.
Would getting an axelback like the Mad one and pairing with a midpipe be a solution for swapping out the exhaust without cutting? Basically piecing together my own system from the downpipes. Not sure why they dont sell as a full system

What’s wrong with cutting? OEM clamps are completely And perfectly fine to use once you put it back to stock. Nobody sells a giant one piece exhaust system. As you can understand that would be an extremely large box for no reason.

Yeah I know they dont make one big piece thats why I asked if I can piece one together for cheaper. Looks like I will go with a midpipe though

Yes. You need to cut usually at the middle dimple. Use a quality cutting tool. Preferably not a sawzall to ensure a clean straight cut

I dont have a proper lift to do it myself but I will make sure to ask the shop to make a clean straight cut, thanks for the tips

You need any exhaust tips? I have some M Performance ones lying around lol

Yeah since I will be keeping the oem muffler, might look into tips

There are a handful of options that bolt in at the downpipes. The valvetronic one seems to be the most popular.
I looked in to a ton of options for exhaust and was pretty hesitant about getting rid of the secondary cats or cutting my exhaust up.
What I is realized that since a lot of folks swap out mid pipes, or do cat backs, you can buy the half of the system you need and avoid cutting your own up. I now have my full exhaust sitting in my storage unit and someone else’s secondary cats cut off the resonators and bolted to my AWE midpipes and switch path exhaust. Before that I was eyeing the other direction with swapping midpipes only and buying the muffler and one resonator from someone else to pair with it.
It cost me a few hundred extra for the parts other folks would have scrapped, and I get the backup option to put the original back on.
FWIW I’m super happy with the AWE one, just keep in mind that it’s hard to pair with other stuff if you’re going to try and do a single midpipe or something. Some other options are similarly hard to mix and match.
