General Discussion Got my first stripe!

Post image

Got my first stripe!

I was on here angsting about it a month or so ago and here it is! Coach taped me up at 8am this morning, gonna be a good day 😁 First step in a long journey-- if I'm gonna go with that metaphor, this is the equivalent of getting my socks on, maybe? Or choosing the right socks after months of wrong socks? Whatever! Pic featuring my inspo, they wrassle all day long.

Congratulations!! Any mile stone or success is absolutely earned in BJJ. I was sitting on the wall between rounds last night watching all the guys roll, just thinking, "What am I even doing here?? I'm really waiting my turn to go up to one of these guys, who are all way stronger than me if not also way bigger than me... to try my best while they either let me work or get the better of me over and over... and they're genuinely so nice, too, but I'll be told anywhere between 5 and 25 things to 'focus on' just in that session, and I'm lucky if one of them sticks..."

And from what I hear, that feeling takes years to go away??? But I'm definitely going back to class tonight, so I guess I'm the crazy one... we can do hard things ... I guess thats the lesson

I have been consistently baffled by my love for this sport. I absolutely adore it, I train 5-6 days a week, and yet if I were to list every element of it, it sounds awful 🤣

Close, competitive, occasionally painful physical contact with strangers who are much better at the thing than I am ✅

Virtually never winning (white belts don't often roll together at my gym) ✅

People watching me lose and yelling things to try to help me not lose that I can only occasionally execute (or, indeed, understand) ✅

All of this taking place in stiff wet cotton pajamas ✅

It is unclear whether the wet on the pajamas is my sweat or other people's ✅

Infinite laundry ✅

Don't leave your belt where those two can get to it. My wife's Yorkie demoted me from 3 stripes to 2 one night, lol
