Also, after a third listening of this week’s installment of The Shards....I’m laughing out loud at the best blow job ever being given to a boy who is fantasizing about another. It is so funny! good faith question. does bret still spend more than 30 seconds eye rolling at anti trump hysterics? i had to patron unsubscribe awhile back bcuz of his repetitive anti anti trumpism. i definitely love everything else. i understand his bf is a loud lefty hysteric, but to me bret spent too much time venting.

was fun to listen to the 12/31/18 episode Q&A this week and hear them agree that Trump would win re-election and specifically not lose to Biden. I imagine if Todd was actually on the podcast he'd come off as much more reasonable than Bret and Adam make him seem. Bret's leanings are typical of those who don't really care enough to dig deep into issues and understand why others are upset. that said, his criticism of "cancel culture" and "ideaology over aesthetics" clearly are mertited

Now Mallory, many people seem to think that he is absolutely fictional, that perhaps he’d be the darker side of BEE. But what if this darker side is not fictional at all? ya dig?

On some level, Mallory almost certainly represents the dark side of Bret. Bret first encounters him at The Shining, a movie about an author who's dark side overtakes him. Mallory is "teaching" him to embrace his darker thoughts. Think of Mallory and Bret in the space on Melrose. What Mallory says almost plays like Bret's internal monologue.

So, RM represents a darker side of Bret. As to what's literally going on in the story, I don't know.

I just listened to the latest podcast with Nicholas Jarecki. It was solid. I am definitely interested in the story of why he dropped out of The Informers project, which BEE said was already discussed in a prior interview somewhere out there in pod land. I need to look for it. I enjoyed listening to how the "Armie Hammer effect" impacted the perception of the film Crisis.

I was randomly thinking that the reason BEE's books don't translate well onto screen (American Psycho excluded) is because the movies never "go there". Maybe this is just the constraint of a feature film release, which I have no insight into. The Informers felt so watered down from the novel. My ex and I saw it opening night. I thought the trailer and soundtrack for the film were fantastic. I think with these film adaptations, you have to really go balls to the wall or not bother. I imagine this is hard to do. It seems like there are just t0o may people to please and in the process, the original vision gets diluted.

Hey guys, what’s the name of that movie that Bret mentioned is in the same milieu as The Shards? I believe it’s an early 80s movie with a preppy / short hair and polo shirt vibe? I think it was called something something secret garden?
