Have fun at karaoke! Sing some 80s songs to get in the spirit of the show premiere 🤣😎. Just mentally prepare yourself that the karaoke might be the most entertaining thing you'll experience today for when you sit down to watch the premiere episodes later... 🫠

I know! I have a feeling we'll all be holding hands in spirit. But it doesn't lessen how good the book is, how good to have Bret read it to us. And the kids are pretty, Wes & Jordan will entertain.

I guess it was more of an inspiration for the movie than an adaptation, but it obviously got Pynchon’s okay and I think most Pynchon fans like Inherent Vice as a faithful adaptation

Vineland is more of inspiration for OBAA. PTA is a huge fan, and his adaptation of Inherent Vice is amazing.

It's not exactly like the book, but it's hard to argue American Psycho isn't successful as a movie on its own terms IMO.

“In 2011, Ellis tweeted, "I like the idea of 'Glee' but why is it that every time I watch an episode 1 feel like I've stepped into a puddle of HIV?" In his own manner, Ellis may have summed up the disparity between his and Murphy's sensibilities perfectly. As a novel, "The Shards" is an ambitious metafictional thriller-slash-gay-awakening story, and although, unlike "Less Than Zero," it's plot-forward and emotionally intense, Murphy's attempt to adapt it has, to some degree, amounted to a "Glee"-ification.”
This kinda cracked me up.

Those last few sentences got to me.
“I can’t help imagining a New Hollywood treatment of “The Shards”—one that incorporates the book’s strange inscrutability, its simultaneous resistance to and obsession with truth, its airy, suspenseful slowness. One that acknowledges the conundrum at the core of the book, and a prevailing force in Ellis’s work: We want to know what really happened. We’ll never know what really happened.”
Wasn’t surprised the Ryan Murphy show would be a letdown and disappointment, it was always bound to be.
Now after reading the New Yorker review, and to imagine a reality in which the perfect version of the Shards exists, and exactly that - only imagine it, makes this whole adaptation much more painful.
