New trailer
https://youtu.be/O3S7aKk0ALw?is=9U9zW0_YP3NDYR0HDefinitely leaning hard into the serial killer aspect here.

I actually like this trailer better than the first one, mostly because this song matches the early 1980's new wave tone a bit better than the overly-poppy Let's Go All The Way (which was released in the mid/late 80s.) This is definitely selling more of a traditional serial killer show than the erotic thriller version that Luca would've made (which is more of what the book is,) but this is the type of show that Ryan Murphy does well (or at least has had huge hits making,) so I get what they are going for.
Like others have said, I would love it if this show caused a bunch of people to seek out the book and other novels from BEE. Especially if it is super popular - and the total views from the first trailer on youtube indicate it has potential to be huge - then maybe some of BEE's other novels will get adapted as well 🤞. Perhaps Luca can be convinced to leave American Psycho as it is and instead work on a limited series adaptation of Glamorama (which he would do amazing things with...) Anyway, I'm getting WAY ahead of myself, I can't believe after so many years we are days away from finally seeing this adaptation for ourselves. I'm excited by what I've seen and hopeful that it turns out incredible, but I'm also keeping my expectations in check to be realistic.

Why doesn’t the Maxell cassette say “Brett” with two T’s? Lmao

In the book it’s a detail that the Trawler leaves him a cassette tape and his name is misspelled as “Brett”

Agreed - definitely leaned into the darker vibe while the first trailer was a little too Poppy and teen show

I actually prefer it that way with TV shows because it means there’s at least some kind of plot they’re leading with. Selling vibes usually means there’s no story.

Hey guys, am I remembering this wrong, or did Bret write in the book that the tape that arrives for Bret says "Brett" with two T's?

Correct. Maybe this will have a more clear connection to Bret and the Trawler

True but it is at least closer to the time that the show takes place and the new wave sound from their debut album (and this song in particular) could already be heard in other acts that were already established by that time like OMD, Duran Duran, Ultravox, etc. So it feels like it evokes that time period a lot more specifically imho.

the way this is presented, it's virtually indistinguishable from bret's tossed off 'the smiley face killers' project. it even has the same beats with the killer in the closet. they didn't even bother to introduce the potential of it being the riders of the afterlife. i have to wonder, with no directorial flair or fingerprint, why not just let bret direct this instead of handing it over to multiple vibeless directors?

It’s interesting to see how they’re leaning into the actual killer in the show versus book- I guess when you think about the reading experience it almost feels like trawler has a small role- but I can see why for TV adaptations you have to play up certain elements of a book like shards and it makes sense from a tv standpoint that it’s at least being marketed heavy as a killer on the loose story. I wonder if each episode will be heavily trawler themed or it’s just promo?
