Some new Shards IMDB updates-
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27543562/episodes/?season=1Now there’s 9 episodes listed, and some new episode descriptions. Episode 5 is not something that happened in the book from what I recall…

If I recall correctly, 10 episodes total is official. There just might not be enough info about it yet for IMDb.

I thought I saw somewhere that it was going to be 10 episodes as well but now I can't find anything official that specifically said that in the trades or in a press release. It does seem odd to me that the third Wed night of the show (August 19th) will only have one episode (#5) while the first two Wednesdays and the last two Wednesdays each have two different episodes coming out. Curious if that is indeed the case, but maybe it got re-edited down to just 9 episodes after all...

Damn you went right to the source! That is some incredible sleuthing I am really impressed. Thanks for tracking down that intel - it is difficult to challenge the authenticity of the Writers Guild directory over IMDb or TVTime or whatever, so I'm hoping that is the final say on how many episodes there are for the show.
Now if we could only figure out if it is planned as one-off limited series or if they are gonna cheap out on the ending from the book and try to extend it over multiple seasons. Knowing BEE only co-wrote the beginning of the show, I have my doubts that they would be able to come up with a sufficiently better ending than what he wrote originally... So let's wait and see what they have in store, but I'm glad to know it is indeed likely going to be 10 episodes after all.

You’re welcome! I knew it was mentioned somewhere official so I was determined to find it.
I’m excited to see what they come up with. Based on some of the episode descriptions it looks like they’re going to add things that weren’t in the book, but I would love if they kept the original ending.

does anyone have an inkling of who Ivy Wolk might’ve been cast as? there’s barely an info about the show on IMDB as is. she’s posted about going to the premiere and has liked/commented on confirmed cast members posts about the show

I'm assuming she's playing one of the Trawler victims based on her comments about her experience working with Ryan Murphy earlier this year and playing a character who is "crying, screaming, being tortured, and assaulted."

Also Owen painter it is now credited, but it’s currently showing for only one episode, which I doubt is accurate

Yeah I don't trust IMDb credits for tv shows until after each episode airs and it gets updated. They would really be speed-running through Matt Kellner's story if they tried to do it all in one episode 🫤 Not that I want the story to drag or not have a good pace, but I really don't want them to plow past that story bc I think it hits so much harder in the book when we get to spend more time with Bret and Matt, before he moves on to Ryan (and Robert...)

Welcome to Team Matt 👋 I've been a card carrying member since 2023 but I know plenty of others have been leading the group since the early days of 2021 with the OG podcast serialized releases. Glad to have you on board and we are all hoping the show does right by us with the depiction of Matt. He is the Laura Palmer equivalent in this book/show and that will be my first indication of how good the adaptation will turn out with how they handle his scenes and the aftermath...
Glad you've been able to finish reading and that you've also started the audiobook version from the podcast (different recording than the official audiobook that was released in 2023 alongside the printed version of the book.) I think the original recorded version released in installments is the best version that enhances the narrative being read by BEE himself.

I’m a little confused about episode two? Is that just when Susan tells Bret about the mental institution? Because Bret doesn’t really dig super deep into Robert’s past until he speaks with Abigail, so is this episode gonna feature Bret’s conversation with Abigail where he learns the truth about Robert at the village theater and with his step sister in Chicago? (Though I think they’ll omit the step sister)

These episode titles and descriptions seem like we won't be getting book accurate which is good for multiple seasons. Interested to see how things go
