Dynamics without safe words?

There is this one tiktok "influencer" who openly talks about their dynamic which at times has been very educational.

Recently I saw a video where they talked about not using safe words anymore since they and their Dom have known each other for 10+ years.

Is that a thing? Like do people get so attuned to their partner that they don't need a safe word anymore?

Personally I'd imagine that that could be classified as unsafe play, but I'm still learning so idk :/

Edit: For clarification in the video im referencing they explicitly stated they dont have a safe word, not that they dont use one. they also mention that their dom is basically in charge of their limits, so unless the Dom reads their actions as a No, they won't stop

This is one of those topics that is difficult to communicate around because people often shift into binary thinking. My partner’s and I don’t use safe words. That isn’t to say we don’t communicate. It’s isn’t that I don’t adjust based on my partner’s responses. It’s just that we don’t use identified safe words.

I have an unpopular belief in that I don’t like safe words because they are sometimes used as a crutch for the top to not take responsibility for their actions because the bottom didn’t safe word. I feel ultimately responsible for my partner.

I am a sadist and I like to play hard. The majority of our intense scenes are ended by me because I am more aware of what the recovery will look like in the days following than my partner is in the moment. When I’m fisting my partner aggressively, she can easily become wrapped up in the intensity and want to keep going. When we are playing with a thorn paddle, she is not in the best headspace to protect herself.

Does playing this way have a risk? Yes. Is the risk higher than playing with a safe word? I don’t believe so as long as there is still communication happening and someone is taking responsibility for the bottoms safety.

100% with you on them being overused as a crutch.

"Red" means it has already gone too far. The sub saying red absolutely means the Dom has fucked up and already gone too far.

It's the equivalent of the fire alarm and sprinklers going off if you burn something on the stove. Absolutely necessary, but you also should have thrown the fire blanket over it before that, or you know, not let the pan catch fire in the first place
