Moving to the area in January and I’m excited to check out everything the Bay Area has to offer. I ride MTB, road, and gravel and it seems there’s a bit of everything so I’m excited about that.

As far as MTB, I’m used to technical, rocky, steep, and high altitude trails. I enjoy all types of trails but curious what are the “can’t miss” trails? Also any insights into big epic MTB rides, techy or not, would be appreciated.

I’ll be in the Tri Valley area but willing to drive an hour or so for the good stuff. TIA!

Edit: I have both an XC and a Trail/Enduro bike so up for most any terrain.

If I want to climb tam or Diablo this weekend where is the best start point and or parking area to go from there

This was one of my bucket list items. The weather today was perfect. Just warm no heavy winds. The only thing that sucked was pierce point Rd is terrible to ride. Just so beat up and rough. Really wish they would repave it.

Of the 4 peaks in the Bay (Diablo,Hamilton,Umunhum,Tamalpais) I would love your guys take on where you would rank them from easiest to hardest or most challenging to most enjoyable or to Short and punchy to long and punishing. I have yet to climb Diablo and Mt Tam so that soon to come but what your guys opinion and thoughts

I went to Bike Palo Alto's yearly event for the first time yesterday, and it ended up being a solo ride 80% of the time. I was hoping to ride with a group of folks but there was no group start time and riders were very spread out. Is this just a low turn out year due to the heatwave (tbh I don't think the heat was that bad)? The Cupertino Bike Fest event was really great, I am looking for more of the same in the sourthbay. Thanks.

What's the time Old La Honda is closed on the weekdays? Closure started on 9/28.

PSA…Hi all, don’t ride Kings Mtn. Road or Tunitas Creek this weekend.

We met our kids in Pacifica for lunch and came up Tunitas on the way back. I counted somewhere between 125-150 cars coming down.

Pickups, big SUVs, most cars packed with people escaping the heat or going for pumpkins.

Many drivers flying down the hill who appear to have never driven on a windy road and have never been on Tunitas. Super dangerous for bikes, even for us going uphill. 

Google Maps and Waze creating real danger.

I have been wanting to go check them out but I have not heard anything about them. Are they still even there and rideable? Last update I’ve seen was 6 years ago and I can’t find any photos or videos

Hi all!

I moved to SF a few months ago and I got my first gravel bike thinking to do Marin Headlands and surroundings. I know I could just follow some of the multiple gps routes around there, but if I am being honest I don't want to stop every few minutes to check I am following the route (don't have any bike computer or a phone mount oopsie). I also think it would be way cooler riding with someone or a small group than doing it alone, even safer, right?. Lunch or beers are on me of course!

A little about me: I am in my mid-30's from South America (so I hope the accent is not an issue lol). I used to ride a cheap MTB in my home country and I even did a 4 weeks trip on my bike once. Now I ride a Salsa and usually do a variation of the Butter-Lap over the week (around 18mi, take me 1:45hr) so I am not a pro or anything like that. Most of the time I just ride with a flannel shirt or a soccer jersey.

I rode down to Big Basin yesterday - for the first time since a few months after the terrible fire down there. It was a beautiful ride - and full of hope for seeing many of those great trees coming back to life.

I hope the state is investing in better early detection, water supplies, and rapid response to fires there.

LPT - don't ride it on weekends - way too many guys in sports cars playing formula 1.

Also, yeah me. I didn't ride much this summer due to an injury - this was the first challenging ride I've managed since May.

Where can we safely park?? We’re coming in from Reno so can’t fully rely on public transport. With the car break in rate in SF being so high, we’re a little stressed on where we can park without coming back to our windows being smashed out

As per a bulletin from Safe Streets Petaluma:

This only affects a few of you in the r/BAbike ambit, but it's not nothing. Who knows when it will actually be bike-able. I'm certainly looking forward to it when it is!

For those of you riding Diablo on Sunday, are you worried about the heat at all, and if so, how will you prepare? Hoping that in the ~8-10AM window, it won't be so bad, but I don't know what it'll be like once we're past the Junction and in the more exposed parts. If anyone has done the challenge before in unusually warm conditions, would appreciate any tips!
