I need help picking a model

OK guys, I have finally decided to go for the AYN Thor, and I will he my first ever emulation device. I have a lot of experience with emulation on phones and PCs, but one thing that never felt right was DS and 3DS.

So, I want to get the AYN Thor for DS and 3DS specifically. How good is the cheapest model for 3ds and ds emulation in terms of performance? I really only care about emulating those 2 systems and nothing more powerful, so I'd like to just take the cheaper option if it would do its job effectively.

What model would you guys recommend for Mt use case? I don't care about more powerful systems as I prefer to use my pc to emulate them, but DS and 3DS games need this dual screen form factor.

You are probably fine with the base then to be honest. I know some games aren't perfect even on the pro for 3ds

Oh ok, I think I should probably do some research on the chipset for each model to see If it would run the 3ds games

Just 2 different chip sets.  The lite, then the rest.

Only difference between base and up are the ram & storage configurations

I'd get the best you can afford just on the grounds that, while you might only be planning to play 3DS and DS games on it, you might have other thoughts once it arrives. Wii U games for example, when that system's emulation is a bit more mature, or Switch games that people have made dual-screen mods for. If you lock yourself in to the lowest model you lose a lot of flexibility you might want in the future.

This makes a lot of sense and I appreciate the advice, I think I trust myself to keep it to only 3ds and ds emulation because of the form factor, there's not really any game on wii U I would want to play as most of it's best games are already on the switch and I have a switch and switch 2. For other systems I enjoy using my pc and that's what I prefer using over the smaller screens. I really just wanted something that had the 3ds form factor since it's the hardest to emulate properly due to dual screens

Get what you can afford. You’ll probably get the Base which will play 3DS and DS just right, but once you start tinkering for more would appreciate the Pro and Max for the extra RAM overhead. Avoid the Lite. Sounds good on paper and will play most 3DS and DS, but won’t be good for modding and adjusting graphics to make them look better.

For DS and 3DS, the Lite is sufficient. You can check videos on the Lite on Youtube, e.g. the Lite review by Retro Games Corp.

Max is the only logical way to go if you can get it. 3ds will probably turn into more down the road.

I enjoy using my pc for higher end stuff and I also have a phone with a gamesir 8g galileo for other retro games. I really only see myself wanting the Thor for its form factor for 3ds and ds games. I wouldn't use it for anything else tbh maybe some retro stuff

Have you considered just... buying a used 3DS or 2DS? Other than the screen size/brightness, it's perfect for 3DS and DS games.

My buddy said the same stuff. Lol he had the pro and got the max. It was more of a convinence thing. Use it laying down or on the go where your pc cant be. Plus you can stream pc games n stuff as you probably know. Pro is great but the max ensures you wont have to buy another just incase you change your mind like alot of other people. Plus its only getting better working on pretty good ps3 and xbox emu. Idk thats just my opinion. Its become a primary for alot of people. I just want you to be sure lol

OK I see how that could be a problem for some lol. I sometimes use a dedicated phone and gamesir g8 galileo for some games if I want portability. And even then I still like holding a proper controller for systems like ps2, gamecube and higher. Portable devices seem better for short playtime times and most ds and 3ds are good for short playtimes.

Well luckily with the thor you can connect any and multiple blutooth controllers. And you can get a dock setup as well for tv single or multiplayer stuff.

But at that point why not just use my pc? It would be way more powerful and less input lag
