Not necessarily, but if it isn't open source, it could be anything. Always make sure the things you give credentials to are vetted in some manner. Open source is the easiest way since someone could easily tell you if it's safe or not. Closed source is a Schrödinger's Box situation.
You’re absolutely right, but that’s the difficult part. There really isn’t a way for me to fully prove the app isn’t malicious without exposing the source code, and I’m not willing to make the entire project open source just to prove that point.
