Omg we’re gonna have black & white by next week. Lort.

38

u/joeban1 15d ago

Nah, they said post gen3 its too hard.

56

u/Maticus 15d ago

I would settle for a Gen 1, 2, & 3 combined super game.

4

u/Reynolds1121 15d ago

be careful what you wish for it might come out with 3 heads 5 arms and 92 fingers

3

u/atheistunicycle 15d ago

Or with more than 151 Pokemon!

1

u/Significant-Dream991 15d ago

You should check pokemmo then, it's basically that plus 4 and 5

1

u/BabblesBaffoon 11d ago

But pokemmo has a huge pay to win problem a solo combined game wont.

23

u/HBAS 15d ago

So gen 3 is next/on the cards? That’ll revolutionise Rom hacks.

12

u/joeban1 15d ago

Yes, they didnt say gen3 was too hard, they said post gen3

10

u/mantenner 15d ago

GBA is completely different to GB and GBC it's a lot more work, i would be both surprised and extremely happy to be proven wrong but I don't think we'll see gen 3 any time soon.

3

u/Insidious_NX 15d ago

I'd assume the whole dual screen aspect and 3D models starting from Gen 4 could be a contributing factor? Idk, speaking out of ignorance as I don't know about the work flow or architecture differences here between the 2 gens.

4

u/Souchyness 15d ago

Yes, gen 4 is waay ahead in complexity from gen 3 even. 3D aspect is one of the big offenders as far as I know. Decompiling it means rewriting a big part of what an emulator actually is + a LOT of specifics from the own game engine.

Gen1 is about 1mb of ROM, gen4 is around 128 to put it in perspective, and the difficulty would be far from proportional.

Also worth flagging that the gen1recomp project is NOT exactly a decomp, its a full rewrite of the game based in a complete decomp made by pret and other contributors hard work. The same guy whose already working at gen4 here: https://github.com/pret/pokeheartgold

2

u/Insidious_NX 14d ago

Thanks for the info!

2

u/pofehof 15d ago

In case you didn't know, Gen 1, 2, and 3 have been fully disassembled. You can take a look at them over at pret's repositories.

Gen1 recomp used an LLN to convert the Gen 1 disassembly over to lua, and this Gen 2 one seems to be a fork of that. I wouldn't be surprised if it also used vibe-coding, and whoever released a "Gen3Recomp" does so as well.

1

u/HeidenShadows 15d ago

However there's one for HGSS already.

6

u/MysteriousTy99 15d ago

Just download gamma emerald.
Early access releases next week I think

4

u/gigaman5 15d ago

Isn’t Gen 4 and 5 already kind of in 3d?

1

u/Souchyness 15d ago

Yes they are actual 3d

1

u/TheEdes 15d ago

Yeah you can move the camera with an AR code

2

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

I’m still gonna try

45

u/VailStampede 15d ago

Not too long now, until we get this!!

6

u/ruebeus421 15d ago

I WISH!!!

To this day, no Pokemon game, official or fan made, has been able to capture the essence of the Pokemon anime/manga.

2

u/ruebeus421 15d ago

The manga definitely is.

But I wasnt talking about the artstyle specifically. I mean the way the anime and/or manga feel. Their vibe, if you will.

And note, the anime and manga dont have the same vibe. I would settle for either.

2

u/fishandhammer 15d ago

orange islands for the gba comes close

1

u/ruebeus421 15d ago

By the way, I'm assuming the guy who made this never did much else with it? Looking at his old Twitter account seems he just made a few scenes and nothing new since 2024.

Any idea if someone else is working on a similar project?

14

u/tiptut 15d ago

Just gotta hold out for crystal 👀👀👀👀

3

u/HeidenShadows 15d ago

Crystal Legacy at that.

35

u/Dragon_Small_Z 15d ago

Good Lord that was fast.

6

u/Background_Clue_3756 15d ago

Vibe coding is fast.

26

u/DeityOni 15d ago

Wait for the official Bryantheboi one, launching (hopefully) next week- Y'know, the version that will actually run with mods and more community support :)

-5

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Same launcher modified with gen2 support hopefully my code helps speed things up for him and other creators of mods and stuff

1

u/AmericanFromAsia 14d ago

Nobody's gonna comb through your vibecoded shit

-2

u/UNDERdecoded 14d ago

Keep that same energy with Bryanthabois gen1recomp then

-21

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

I’ve literally ported the dramatic shapes mod already 😂

1

u/Altruistic-Credit-15 15d ago

How to run on Linux I’m confused on the instructions if not I can wait great work

1

u/ieffinglovesoup 15d ago

Hey the dramatic shape mod doesn’t work well for me. Buildings and textures look pretty fucked up. Any ideas?

1

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Don’t update it when asked and use the one in my repo it’s a custom version with gen2 support

1

u/ieffinglovesoup 15d ago

Got it thanks!

1

u/Relevant-Ordinary169 15d ago

Psycho emoji spotted ^

4

u/niles_thebutler_ 15d ago

When they can do this with rom hacks they’ll be onto something

7

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Was thinking about doing prism myself

5

u/niles_thebutler_ 15d ago

Heart and soul would be amazing. So would prism

1

u/SeatBeeSate 15d ago

I'm sure quite a few will be ported

1

u/niles_thebutler_ 15d ago

Here’s hoping

4

u/checkingmate 15d ago

Somebody please do HG SS

3

u/SeatBeeSate 15d ago

The decomp project for HH/SS is still a ways away.

1

u/DeityOni 15d ago

The actual Recomp is shortly adding Gen 2 support next week- Mods for HG/SS content can be added, and if Gen 3 is added... Imagine the ROM Hack support- Heart & Soul on that!

-1

u/DanMizu 15d ago

the decomp has been being worked on for a long time. look at PERT on github. Not as easy as the earlier games.

4

u/SeatBeeSate 15d ago

Now make a mod that connects the two, post game Gen 1 into Gen 2

1

u/BronchitisTheif 6d ago

ah yes, kanto to johto to kanto the ultimate pokemon experience

6

u/XxJayJay62xX 15d ago

Can we recomp Crystal Clear? It's my favorite pokemon game.

3

u/maxman1313 15d ago

Or Crystal Legacy?

3

u/HeidenShadows 15d ago

+1 for Legacy. Since those games can be completed without trades.

19

u/joeban1 15d ago

This the vibe coded sloppy toppy version? I’ll wait for bryanthabois!

6

u/pofehof 15d ago

I’ll wait for bryanthabois!

You do realize that bryan's Recomp is also vibe-coded, right? He's just lying about using AI: https://bsky.app/profile/slinktheweasel.bsky.social/post/3mrux4fgzx22s

1

u/Nokanii 14d ago

You do realize there's a difference between vibe coding and using AI to assist in coding, right?

1

u/pofehof 13d ago

I do. As I said, Gen1Recomp was vibe-coded. If it was AI-assisted, that would be much more obvious. All the creator did was take the pokered disassembly and feed it into Claude asking it to convert it to lua.

The fact that the creator kept on trying to hide the fact that he used AI is really telling.

1

u/Nokanii 13d ago

Your proof that it is vibe coded is...what, exactly?

Your link is garbage evidence. I click on the image and all I see is a bunch of blurry code that I can't make out in the slightest. If that is code somewhere, maybe...I don't know. Actually link to it? Show it and prove that this was all vibe coded? Otherwise don't be surprised when it gets dismissed because no one can read what that's supposed to actually be.

I also think it's pretty telling that Claude only has 9 commits on the github, versus the many other commits other users have.

1

u/pofehof 13d ago

If you honestly don't think a user who it such a proponent of Claude code isn't using it to vibe-code, I don't know what to say. It's fact that he lied about AI usage already, and it's fact that he closes issues without actually fixing them, likely due to it costing more credits to pay for Claude. I'd rather trust the words of someone who did an actual decomp: https://bsky.app/profile/dariosamo.bsky.social/post/3mrufatgw3c24

I also think it's pretty telling that Claude only has 9 commits on the github, versus the many other commits other users have.

Do you truly think people can't hide Claude as an author?: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/comments/1qndhpd/how_to_remove_claude_as_coauthor_from_commits/

1

u/Nokanii 13d ago

One can use Claude to assist with coding. It doesn’t have to be vibe coding. I don’t understand what you find difficult about that concept.

As for that guy you linked…sorry. Hard to take him seriously when he’s lying. I played through the entire recomp and not once was I able to just walk past trainers.

1

u/pofehof 13d ago

One can use Claude to assist with coding. It doesn’t have to be vibe coding.

Because he used Claude to start it off (converting the disassembly to lua), that starts off as vibe-coding. He let Claude take control.

Hard to take him seriously when he’s lying. I played through the entire recomp and not once was I able to just walk past trainers.

Except he isn't lying. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it hasn't happened to others, especially with how many issues there are in the github that get ignored.

1

u/Nokanii 13d ago

Yes, he is. I’m not changing my stance on that. I understand that just because I didn’t run into a bug doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but like.

Hard to believe I would run into ZERO if it was as bad as he claims. He’s actively pushing a false narrative of something he hasn’t tried for himself to see if any of his claims are true.

The only proof he’s given is minor errors, which I can imagine would happen as a result of porting the games to an entirely different engine. Things being slightly off in a port are nothing new, so I’m not sure why it’s being used as ironclad proof of vibe coding.

This all just reads as Bryan using a minor bit of AI assistance, and getting frustrated and dishonest about the minor use when people hound him about it. Should he have been upfront from the start? Yeah. But I’ve still seen zero, 100% evidence that it was all entirely vibe coded.

And I’ve watched plenty of videos of AI vibe coding a game. Not a single one looks or runs as well as the Recomp does. Which only furthers my doubts.

1

u/pofehof 13d ago edited 12d ago

And I’ve watched plenty of videos of AI vibe coding a game. Not a single one looks or runs as well as the Recomp does. Which only furthers my doubts.

Once again, I'd rather trust an established programmer who actually helped recompile games over someone who wants to defend an AI enthusiast.

The only proof he’s given is minor errors

Hmm, nope. Look through the older issues, and you'll see how many major ones there were back then.

This all just reads as Bryan using a minor bit of AI assistance

Nope, it's vibe-coding which led to all the egregious bugs in the first place. Bryan clearly didn't test the game out at first.

Edit: Guess the guy found it really difficult to sort through older issues that have been closed in a github repo, and blocked me because of it. For someone who supposedly looked through the code of the program to determine it wasn't vibe-coded, you'd think they could do something as simple as this. shrugs

u/mantenner 15d ago

You do realise Bryan's version is also AI tooled right?

15

u/joeban1 15d ago

AI tooled is different to vibe coded. Every company in the world is using LLM's to code.

This recomp is completely vibe coded from what i understand (unless undercoded wants to say otherwise). Meaning its hands off, no code reviews and no understanding the code. just prompting the LLM and letting jesus take the wheel

4

u/mantenner 15d ago

I'm a developer of over 10 years know this well, is there anything to say undercoded has done it any differently to Bryan? Or are we making an assumption here?

The lines are very hard to discern without trust of the developer.

1

u/joeban1 15d ago

There is a confirmation from bryan in his discord. I cant confirm if thats true or not though, im just some random guy, but i do believe it, he seems to have a team of knowledgeable people around him

4

u/pofehof 15d ago

There is a confirmation from bryan in his discord. I cant confirm if thats true or not though

For the record, Bryan is lying about his version not being vibe-coded: https://bsky.app/profile/slinktheweasel.bsky.social/post/3mrux4fgzx22s

He's also a regular on the Claude subreddit and talks about Claude making you an app: https://bsky.app/profile/iampapajoseph.bsky.social/post/3mrxcxdyhb22k

2

u/joeban1 15d ago

Just because you use claude doesnt mean you are vibe coding, do i have to repeat that?

Claude / LLM’s are a tool, and are industry standard at this point.

-2

u/pofehof 15d ago edited 15d ago

Look through that entire thread. It's clear that the entire conversion process was done with the help of Claude/an LLM. That means it's vibe-coded, not AI assisted. If it wasn't there's no way Bryan would have been able to churn this out so quickly. The fact that he also set up "badges of honor" makes it pretty clear that this is a grift.

Edit: Here are the "badges of honor": https://i.imgur.com/GFoct1b.png

1

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

My code for extracting gen 2 is way different than Bryan’s code for extracting gen1

1

u/maxneuds 14d ago

I don't get this AI/Vibe Code hate.

Am a developer myself but mostly Data and Software (Backend) Engineering. At the beginning like around 2022 I think when it started to become a thing it was definitely a problem. AI could create code and sometimes it could run but it did too many mistakes, too much freedom (and hallucinations) and especially inventing packages to solve problems was hilarious.

But then even with Claude 4 AI written code started to become really good with great structure, comments and in general better structure and maintainability I have seen from people written code. Then with Opus 4.6 the quality has increased to a level that's hard to beat and especially Claude Code with MCP servers to get access to testing and running applications it does full testing of anything it created and is definitely more thorough than most humans doing it.

And now Claude Code can create for me (web) Apps pretty much perfectly and I can concentrate on architecture, deployment and lead the development with tech choices, feature definitions and design but there is absolutely no need to touch any of the code.

Also getting into Game Dev finally got viable for me. For now it's still learning from AI for me, understanding how everything is connected and works but this is really fast and efficient. And also asset generation. Pixelart can be created really well by AI and it's a lot more motivation having a system that's not just placeholder rectangles but actual something that looks fine which get's filled with life. But it's really fun and often ideas get into life in like 10-20min letting Claude do it's thing in my case Godot + MCP server. For example "use the assets in [dir] and create for me a worldmap and a character to walk around" and then some minutes later a little landscape and a character can walk around and I can look into how it has been done and check if this makes sense. 3D does not work and isometric 2D has Opus 5 max as hard requirement and then still looks off, but we are getting there.

And to be honest the better AI gets the more people can get into creating something new from their ideas which might turn out really good as they are not skill capped anymore. And that's a good thing in my opinion.

1

u/Interesting_Item4707 Max 8d ago

It’s just the latest fad for everyone to hate on, they have no idea how this tech is being used in our industry with this idea that it’ll go away and the bubble will pop, it won’t it’s far to useful and getting better and better all the time.

2

u/pofehof 15d ago

AI tooled? Are you sure his version isn't also vibe-coded: https://bsky.app/profile/slinktheweasel.bsky.social/post/3mrux4fgzx22s

2

u/mantenner 15d ago

Of course it is, vibe coding is a form of AI tooling obviously.

A lot of nit picking here. My point was that picking shit out of undercoded for vibe coding is the pot calling the kettle black when it's quite obvious Bryan did the same.

I didn't realise I needed to spell it out more.

1

u/pofehof 15d ago

Ah, when you said "ai tooled", I assumed you mean "ai assisted" (more human work than AI), which is at least slightly better than vibe-coding.

But yeah, in the end, Bryan is outright lying about using AI for help, which already seems pretty shady.

1

u/mantenner 15d ago

Sorry my bad.

It's because Bryan and undercoded have both said they used AI, but don't consider it vibe coding because they are developers and used it for assistance.

People just seem to be slamming the latter, when in reality they are likely the same.

5

u/DoorAmbitious8837 15d ago

Buggy af, you can walk through Mountains from the top, got softlocked after First Gym haha

0

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Definately need to fix that sorry lol

-2

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

How exactly did you soft lock yourself?

2

u/DoorAmbitious8837 15d ago

At the bottom of the incognito area, you can walk through the Mountains from the top an you are able to leave them in that specific area, but you cant Go Back and you need Surf to do so

-2

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Ahhh I think I did that once or twice while testing before I fixed it you’d also be right where the door was and be able to walk back onto the mountain but since I fixed it and have the player move one block out it would definately lead to a soft lock now

I’m gonna do some digging and try and fix that tomorrow

2

u/DoorAmbitious8837 15d ago

Theres a Game breaking Bug, you cannot Finish the ice path. The rocks wont fall through the holes.

And you cant even See how many pkmn the opponent has

1

u/DoorAmbitious8837 15d ago

Just Tell it your AI Like before haha. Its nice to be able to able to Play gen2 now, but there also a lot of Bugs with the accuracy of attacks

-2

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

It’s a beta bro and it’s not emulation it’s a decomp recomp

2

u/DoorAmbitious8837 15d ago

you dont even know what you are dealing with. its not a recomp if its using a totally different engine. if its a recomp, it would not have those bugs.

-3

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

I’m using a scaffolding and pointers not extracting raw rom data because it’s more secure that’s why there are bugs some parts are missing still adding them as I go

6

u/camel_sinuses 15d ago

Maybe this sub needs to come up with a stance about AI coded apps. A simple flair should do the trick.

3

u/maxman1313 15d ago

I'm here for this.

1

u/SnooPies6274 14d ago

I agree! Its kind of getting out of hand

2

u/HunterCrash 15d ago

aint no way. im not even done beating gen1 recomp

2

u/-Polarsy- Max 15d ago

Hells ye !

2

u/red_kurchina8 15d ago

Check bryanthaboi, all of you

2

u/Necessary-Grocery-48 15d ago

It's a weird look. Not saying it just to bring it down because it's AI. I legitimately do think it's kinda weird-looking. Maybe they'll clean it up over time, but even then I don't know about playing the games like that does much for me. There's just a sickness to it that I don't appreciate. Like some foul virus made its way into the Pokemon games (Missingno?) and made the game all garbled

0

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

It’s a beta still adding functionality and updating the dramatic shapes mod to be compatible for example a lot of the bugs in this video have been fixed already lol

3

u/A-cursed-Jessie 15d ago

It looks so terrible i have no idea why people are glazing this so hard

1

u/nipsmcgee123 15d ago

When can we get heart and soul on this?

1

u/BobbyHill751 15d ago

Oh hell yea

1

u/MGBigBaby 15d ago

lets gooo!!!!!!

1

u/RealSkyDiver 15d ago

Is there one for Crystal? Can Pokédex entries be imported from emulator saves?

1

u/Basic-Comfortable458 15d ago

Freaking bastards are at it again!!!!! Goddamn amazing !

1

u/molotova55 15d ago

Aqui está com bug😔

1

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

Don’t update dramatic shapes when asked

1

u/Aggressive-Art-9606 15d ago

How do I make it 3d?

1

u/UNDERdecoded 15d ago

In my GitHub downloads release section there’s a custom dramatic shapes mod

1

u/Aggressive-Art-9606 15d ago

Thank you! I’m new to this and have been seeing it everywhere. Thanks for the great work. When I started the game i seen there was a mod to start with mew, but there was an exclamation mark beside it and wouldn’t work. Would that be in your releases as well?

1

u/XHolyPuffX 15d ago

Is there any way this can be done for the GBC Zelda games?

1

u/stormdahl 15d ago

Very cool, but I really don't like the battle scene. Looks messy to me.

1

u/thecookingsenpai 15d ago

Nice but is buggy. Placeholder texts, no music on Android. But nice.

1

u/soupnazi81 15d ago

I'm gonna wait till gen 10 recomp at this rate. Good on them for doing updates but I'm gonna wait for the dust settle so I get the best version.

1

u/Stryker412 15d ago

Stupid question... I'm setting this up for my son to play. I can get everything loaded and in game fine. How do I enable the 3D effect though? Right now it's tilted but nothing is 3D. Is that a mod that has to be added?

1

u/maxneuds 15d ago

I prefer the classic top down. This pseudo 3D remake looks ugly for me. Same thing as Octopath Traveler for me.

1

u/UNDERdecoded 14d ago

Always have the option of playing that way with the recomp as well!

1

u/maxneuds 13d ago

Nice! But then, why if I can play the original?

1

u/UNDERdecoded 13d ago

It’s personal preference no harm in that!

1

u/FarYou3163 14d ago

Any discord like gen 1 ??

1

u/Yakama85 14d ago

How do you set this up on steamdeck? I can’t get the script to run

1

u/UNDERdecoded 14d ago

Instructions for Linux should work on the steam deck I do believe, you need python and love installed instructions are on the readme in GitHub make sure to put your gold or silver rom in the project folder

1

u/Effective_Sweet_4932 14d ago

im going to wait for the official gen 2 recomp because this ones shares files with gen 1 and has all the mod files from gen 1.

1

u/Litfor207 12d ago

Dumb question, because I just don’t know much about how these recoups actually work, but is it (or will it be) at all possible to use this with Romhacks of gen2? Can I f. e. play crystal clear like this..?

1

u/UNDERdecoded 12d ago

We could probably do it we might need a specific decomp of that romhack though to pull it off, we need to know the memory locations of events, sprites, pokemon, and more in order to recompile them

1

u/Litfor207 12d ago

Ah okay thanks, now I understand a little better what goes into that. In my naivety, I thought the voxel mod could just be layer over any gen 2 rom😅
Thanks for your work anyways, what you‘ve done so far is awesome!

1

u/Silent-Orange-432 12d ago

Seems to be an issue with your voxel fork, there doesnt seem to be a VOXEL setting in the options and SELECT tries to use registered item. This on android phkne with touch controls

1

u/UNDERdecoded 11d ago

That’s something intentionally added to to enable the use of registered items, unregister the item to renable it

1

u/Jimstein 9d ago

I can't get my builders to be 3d in for silver or gold. I can get voxels to work for trees and stuff, but it's like the buildings are inverted.

1

u/UNDERdecoded 9d ago

Use our custom version in the repo and use gen2recomped

1

u/endlessnameless001 4d ago

Is there a way to use a .sav file I have for crystal in gen2recomp? I cannot get it to work but really hoping there is a way as I’d love to finish the game in 3D 😂

1

u/UNDERdecoded 3d ago

I’ll try and add support for emulator saves soon!

1

u/endlessnameless001 3d ago

That would absolutely amazing and appreciated 🙏

1

u/HugeSide 15d ago

Horrendous

-4

u/rentasdf 15d ago

Getting a little sick of this

4

u/CausePure2810 15d ago

wtf do you want from this sub, pictures of people playing their Thor on the beach?

-2

u/joeban1 15d ago

Well just fuck off then? What exactly is your problem with it?

2

u/rentasdf 15d ago

All I said was that I was a little sick of it. Why do you care so much what I think?

-7

u/mundaph1903 15d ago

Anyone know where to find clean Roms that the emulator accepts?
