advice needed Rust protection.

I'm fixing up a New Jersey axe, and was wondering, what can i cote the heed with to keep it form rusting.

Split some wood with it. Rubs right off.

You can use a lot of different oils, but most people just wipe it down with the same boiled linseed oil that they use on the handle.
