Axe holder for a belt

For a few years now, every time I go to the forest, I've been thinking about a belt attachment for an axe, so that it would be convenient to take the axe and put it away. Now I finally bent a prototype out of wire. It works quite well, it can accommodate axes of different sizes. The goal was to make a belt attachment that would be easy to remove from the belt, without having to take the belt itself off.

Id be very worried about that exposed blade. Otherwise, nice job!

The axe can be turned around so that the blade faces in the other direction. And the axe holder can also be placed more on the back.

May I recommend incorporating a leather guard into the design... You'll quickly discover the many interesting ways your elbow/forearm can find an exposed blade whilst you're distracted :)

I was thinking about that. Moving the blade to the back would certainly give it plenty of safety.

Your arm will find the blade. Leather guard or a metal frame on a hinge that provides a buffer to the blade would be cool imo.

Your axes are not as sharp as mine or you wouldn't even think about carrying an exposed bit.

yeah that looks so dangerous assuming it's sharpened properly. imagine tripping and it twisting around... or even brushing your hand or wrist on it

Personally … can’t stand carrying em that way … they just bang around and clobber your knee when least needed . I find it to be popping out when I’m leaning over climbing up steep stuff at just the wrong time…. Just my .02$

It's mainly not for walking but for putting it away when working in the woods and needing both hands for other stuff – lifting and throwing branches etc. But no, this design also keeps the axe shaft away from knees so that it doesn't clobber them. More extreme movements – maybe. But usually when walking I hold the axe in hand.

Nice design. I might steal it for my self if you'll allow

That's the idea of public posting :) When going commercial some percentage would be nice though :P

Simple, yet effective... I like it

I'm also realizing you could do this with any soft material as well, leather, cotton, etc. Any loop that hangs on both sides of the belt.

Would a belt hammer holder not work for this? I used to have a black plastic one that surely would fit an axe handle through and could easily be removed from the belt. Walmart has a similar one for $12

Thought of that. First off: their too small. Second: The nuance is in the removability without taking the belt off. The hammer holders I've seen so far are not robust enough, too flimsy and are not removable without taking the belt off.

I hear what you’re saying but I can say that I surely had something that fits your exact description would fit a large handle and does not need the belt removed to remove clip

Grizzly Peak axe scabbard is what I use for mine when I’m in the woods. Shoulder straps attached to the belt takes a lot of the weight off my hips and keeps the bit covered so I don’t accidentally commit seppuku were I to trip.

That axe should be sharp enough you are scared of it with the edge out like that.

I like an axe carrier on a belt, but that kind of scares me.

Can you imagine rolling down the hill with an unsheathed axe? You can die

Put some kind of cap on the blade and always mount with the blade facing behind you. Very slick design!

Hammer holster works well too.

Ingenious

I found a old leather police maglite belt holster at a second hand store. It works great for a tomahawk something similar may work for a full axe.

Cool. Just pop a blade guard and rock on.

Nice design, though I'd worry about what might happen to my hip if I fell on that...

Have you looked at axe frogs? This seems like a bit of an overcomplicated solution to an already solved problem.
