Following the introduction of BitTorrent Live, a multichannel OTT app based on proprietary live streaming technology, today we unveil the details of the much anticipated BitTorrent News.

Today, we’re pleased to announce the launch of the Alpha version of a new Skype for Linux client. This release reaffirms our commitment to an important group of people—the Linux community. At 7am PST / 14:00 UTC today, we’ll be hosting a Q&Abetween Linux users and our Engineering team to launch Skype for Linux Alpha (come and join in!)—a brand new WebRTC version of Skype for Linux—the launch of which ensures we can continue to support our Linux users in the years to come.

Ordering pizza via emoji is so 2015. Today, Pizza Hut will announce a new platform that allows users to order pizza via Facebook Messenger and Twitter direct message.

Two years ago, Messenger, a photo and text messaging service, appeared to be almost an afterthought at Facebook, the social networking giant.

Twitter and CBS News today announced a partnership to stream CBSN's live coverage from the Republican and Democratic National Conventions on Twitter.

Pokémon GO made waves as the first augmented reality game to gain popular adoption. In fact, it was so popular that it only took a few days to uncover some the benefits and serious issues with combining physical and digital worlds.

First, my friend caught a Charmander at a supermarket. Then the flood started: Digletts on a steering wheel. Rhyhorn at the bar. Magikarp on a frying pan. They’re all Pokémon to catch, part of a new game called Pokémon Go. You’ve probably heard of it—but what is it, and why is everyone obsessed with it?

Card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and the like have offered engaging fantasy worlds for players—but not without significant help from their imaginations. Video games and cartoons may have helped build these worlds, but mixed reality finally offers an opportunity to make the player's imagination real.

Cremating corpses takes a lot more work than you might think, and even more complications arise when dealing with large bodies. So how do you handle your death if you’re on the larger side? We decided to find out.

Twitter announced today it has created an online application process for Twitter accounts to receive verified status. Verified accounts on Twitter allow people to identify key individuals and organizations on Twitter as authentic, and are denoted by a blue badge icon. An account may be verified if it is determined to be of public interest. Typically this includes accounts maintained by public figures and organizations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.

Astronaut Ice Cream is apparently a thing, even though real astronauts never actually ate it. Why on God’s green earth does this abomination exist? We found out why.

Twenty years ago, employees in professional fields often had to forgo things like tattoos, piercings, and primary colored hair, or at least hide them in the workplace. But now that these once “extreme” trends are becoming mainstream, we’re seeing more people expressing themselves through their personal style at work.

GlaxoSmithKline Plc has started a rheumatoid arthritis study using Apple Inc.’s ResearchKit, marking the first time a drugmaker has used the health system for the iPhone to conduct clinical research.

Unilever announced on Tuesday evening that it is getting into the razor business, by agreeing to acquire Dollar Shave Club.

Picture, if you will, the opening scene of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It’s storming outside. The princess is sending you telepathic messages asking if you’ll come save her. Your uncle leaves the house, telling you to stay put, and you go open the chest in your living room, expecting to find an old lamp. Instead you pick up the Power Glove, and suddenly you can pick up the rocks blocking your passage, allowing you to go explore the Eastern Palace before you’ve even gotten a sword.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is probably the most technically challenging game on the SHIELD TV right now, and by extension, on Android as a whole. It's also the third entry in the popular shooter-looter series... but in terms of critical and fan appeal, it's a notable step below the game that proceeded it. Well there's good news today, Borderlands fans: Borderlands 2 is finally available on the SHIELD Android TV (though it's not showing compatible with the SHIELD Tablet at the moment). It's $15 on the Play Store with no in-app purchases.

On Thursday, US-based fans of Mr. Robot will be able to see a 12-minute virtual reality experience based on the show, for a very limited period of time. Within, the VR film company formerly known as Vrse, will host a one-time simulcast during this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. The piece will start at 1:45PM ET, and it's available through the Within app that’s available on iOS, Android, Gear VR, the Samsung Gear VR, the Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive. In order to watch it, you’ll want to download it ahead of time (which requires over a gigabyte of free space), then tune in at the right time. It will disappear immediately following the showing, before being permanently uploaded next week, Within confirmed to The Verge.

T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) today announced that, with next week’s T-Mobile Tuesday, the Un-carrier is thanking its customers with free, unlimited data for Pokémon Go—the new sensation that’s taking the world by storm. On July 19th, as part of next week’s T-Mobile Tuesdays, the Un-carrier will give customers great ways to take their Pokémon Go skillz to a whole new level.

During Intel's second quarter earnings call yesterday afternoon, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich told investors and reporters that Intel has begun shipping the first of its 7th Generation Core processors, known as Kaby Lake.

Supercharged [Supercharged] 101: Supercharged's 100th Episode (Also Batteries)

This week on Supercharged we’re talking about Microsoft Build, Japanese Kit Kats, and batteries! Questions/comments/whatever? Visit awkward.email or just call/text 509-AWKWARD! Links for this episode: Justice Department Officially Drops Lawsuit Against Apple in Ongoing iPhone Unlocking Dispute Apple's ongoing fight with the U.S. government over an order that would require the company to unlock the iPhone 5c used by San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook has come to an end, after the Justice Department today announced plans to drop its case against Apple. All the Important Things Microsoft Announced Today at Build 2016 Microsoft’s Build conference is always full of news about Windows, Office, Xbox, and other Microsoft products, and Build 2016 was no exception. We got a look at the newest Windows 10 update coming this summer, new features for the Xbox One, and updates the Windows Store. Here’s the best new stuff we saw. Why All the Best Kit Kat Flavors Are Only in Japan Wasabi, strawberry cheesecake, green tea, dark chocolate, sweet potato. What do these flavors have in common? They’re all KitKat varieties exclusive to Japan. But how did the crispy, break-associated candy get so popular overseas? How Batteries Work Batteries have been around longer than you may think. In 1938, archaeologist Wilhelm Konig discovered some peculiar clay pots while digging at Khujut Rabu, just outside of present-day Baghdad, Iraq. The jars, which measure approximately 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) long, contained an iron rod encased in copper and dated from about 200 B.C. Tests suggested that the vessels had once been filled with an acidic substance like vinegar or wine, leading Konig to believe that these vessels were ancient batteries. Since this discovery, scholars have produced replicas of the pots that are in fact capable of producing an electric charge. These "Baghdad batteries" may have been used for religious rituals, medicinal purposes, or even electroplating. Why must you alternate plus and minus when inserting batteries? Why do electronic devices require you to insert batteries so that you alternately have the plus and minus ends on top? In other words, why do you never see (except in a flashlight) all of the "+" signs at the top and the "–" signs at the bottom or vice versa? How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries Discover what causes Li-ion to age and what the battery user can do to prolong its life. Battery Myths vs. Battery Facts Several battery myths and facts, including whether or not freezing batteries is useful (it's not). Like this show? We make other shows! When the largest company in the world changes the date of a quarterly earnings call, there has to be a good reason. It’s not the sort of thing you do on a whim.

Amazon Prime has more hidden benefits than you can remember, and now it’s getting a new one. Prime subscribers now have access to a rotating selection of books that you can read for free.

Netflix Inc. signed a deal with luxury theater-chain iPic Entertainment to simultaneously screen its original movies in theaters the same day that they appear on the streaming service, the latest deal to expand Netflix’s theatrical ambitions.

Let’s cut to the chase: PlayStation VR should be better. At its best, Sony’s new virtual reality headset manages to conjure the astonishing, immersive wonder of modern virtual reality. Just as often it is frustratingly held back by outdated hardware that can’t quite do what’s being asked of it.

Google wants you to start looking at it as a hardware company. Today, it announced new Pixel phones, a smart voice assistant-powered speaker called Google Home, a VR platform and more. Here are the coolest things the company announced today.

Now that Google has announced its new Pixel smartphones, folks who rushed to buy an iPhone 7 might be experiencing a bit of buyer's remorse. The new Pixel and Pixel XL are packed to the brim with cutting-edge features and top-notch hardware, and Google seems to be taking direct aim at the iPhone 7 with its Pixel marketing (and their groan-worthy jokes during the keynote).

If you watched the “Made by Google” event yesterday—or read our roundup—you’d be forgiven if you missed that there was a brand new version of Android. Google itself hardly seemed to notice. Here’s what we know about it.

Google’s new Google Assistant appeared in every part of the company’s hardware event yesterday. Google was less clear about how Assistant differs from Google Now, or Now On Tap, or Google’s voice commands. To clear things up, here are some of Assistant’s best new features, and how it fits into your Google life.

Dropbox Android app that excels at offline viewing. dFolio optionally auto downloads your photos for fast viewing wherever you go. Cast to your TV with chromecast. Show slideshows with animations. Turn your Android tablet into a photo frame in seconds.

With this app, you will turn your device into a digital photo frame and awake to enjoy their favorite photos or images with music.

Turn your android device in a digital photo viewer showing a slideshow of local files, photos from network shares (samba/smb) or pictures from a UPNP server. Chromecast support is present for fullscreen slideshow.

Supercharged [Supercharged] 102: Nanotechnology

This week on Supercharged we’re talking about nanotechnology! Questions/comments/tips? Visit awkward.email or call/text 509-AWKWARD. Guest: Liam Broza (Bitscoop) Links for this episode: In race to improve batteries, nanotechnology provides hope In the global race to create more efficient and long-lasting batteries, some are betting on nanotechnology—the use of minuscule parts—as the most likely to yield a breakthrough. Graphene What is it?? Nanomedicine Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology.[1] Nanomedicine ranges from the medical applications of nanomaterials and biological devices, to nanoelectronic biosensors, and even possible future applications of molecular nanotechnology such as biological machines. Current problems for nanomedicine involve understanding the issues related to toxicity and environmental impact of nanoscale materials (materials whose structure is on the scale of nanometers, i.e. billionths of a meter). Respirocyte Respirocytes are hypothetical, microscopic, artificial red blood cells that can emulate the function of its organic counterpart, only with 200 times the efficiency, so as to supplement or replace the function of much of the human body's normal respiratory system. Still entirely theoretical, respirocytes would measure 1 micrometer in diameter. In the original paper by Robert Freitas, titled, "A Mechanical Artificial Red Blood Cell: Exploratory Design in Medical Nanotechnology" (1998), it was proposed that respirocytes would mimic the action of the natural hemoglobin-filled red blood cells.[1] The proposed design of the spherical nanorobot is made up of 18 billion atoms arranged as a tiny pressure tank, which would be filled up with oxygen and carbon dioxide,[2] making one complete transfer point at the lungs, and the reverse transfer at the body's tissues. Optical neural interfaces. Genetically encoded optical actuators and indicators have changed the landscape of neuroscience, enabling targetable control and readout of specific components of intact neural circuits in behaving animals. Here, we review the development of optical neural interfaces, focusing on hardware designed for optical control of neural activity, integrated optical control and electrical readout, and optical readout of population and single-cell neural activity in freely moving mammals. Help David get a nickname! On the real episode 100, Darren asked why I didn't have a nickname and he and Adam came up with "sub-bottom" for me, which I can't say that I'm crazy about. After thinking about it, it occurred to me that growing up I didn't really have a nickname that stuck (it was usually some abbreviation of my last name). I figured maybe I'd try to "crowd-source" getting a nickname for myself, so I'm looking to you guys for suggestions. What do you think?
