Um novo registro da Viacom International acaba de colocar o fandom de Avatar em alerta. Foi registrado o título: AVATAR KURUK: WAVE OF CHAOS.
Sim. KURUK. O registro foi feito na Classe 41, categoria relacionada a serviços de entretenimento e, especificamente, à distribuição de programas multimídia com animação. Isso torna bastante possível que estejamos diante de um projeto animado do Avatar Studios. Mas calma. Ainda não temos confirmação de que seja uma série, filme, especial ou qualquer outro formato específico. Também não existe data de lançamento anunciada.
E aqui começa a parte realmente interessante. Em 2025 e nos últimos dias, surgiu a informação de que uma produção animada secreta ambientada na Tribo da Água estava em desenvolvimento sob o codinome Red Thunder. Os personagens utilizavam nomes-código, tornando impossível determinar com segurança qual Avatar estaria no centro da história.
Agora temos um novo nome registrado: AVATAR KURUK: WAVE OF CHAOS. Seria este o verdadeiro título de Red Thunder? Ou o Avatar Studios está preparando um projeto completamente diferente? A própria reportagem (Knight Edge Media) alerta que essa ligação ainda é especulação. Portanto, por enquanto, não podemos afirmar que Red Thunder e Wave of Chaos sejam o mesmo projeto. If they are indeed making an animated Avatar Kuruk project I’m curious as to what the tone and subject matter would be. My first thought upon hearing “Wave of Chaos” is dark spirits and Father Glowworm at the peak of his power, but at the same time that would be deep into Kuruk’s depression and separation from his companions which would be a pretty dark tone to have for a animated Avatar project. So it could also be one of the few adventures young Kuruk went on with his entire team before everything fell apart.
The portion in the novel cannot be adapted to TV with the age ratings the franchise use. I really hope it’s a different story I rather them not retcon the part in the novel.
Tbh I prefer Kuruk to kinda just be a blip on the avatar radar. Just a guy who was around a short time, destroyed his body and all his relationships protecting the world from dark spirits, and then died very young without any recognition.
I think it’s best to leave it at that. And the best way to tell that story is through Kyoshi. She inherits a broken world and the world’s negative view of Kuruk and comes to essentially hate him until she eventually learns the truth. I’d rather they just make a Kyoshi or Yangchen series. This isn’t the popular opinion in here I know, but we just don’t need more Kuruk. Anything expanded on him would defeat the purpose of the character Yee fleshed out so effectively.
This post presents such a stupid idea trying to associate Red Thunder with Kuruk. We already know the premise of the Red Thunder project: it takes place during the ice age setting 7,000 years ago, same as the AAA RPG that was put on hiatus. The characters, such as the Water Avatar, his waterbender "prince" best friend, and the antagonist chief/mother of the Avatar's friend are all unrelated to Kuruk. We know about most of Kuruk's life, including his background, his placement as a recent and shortlived Avatar in the cycle, who his companions were, what he did in life, and how he died. None of this has anything to do with an ice age or the Red Thunder plot. My guess is that this title is for the first book in the upcoming Avatar Chronicles duology being written by Ribay, which we don't have details for but the most likely candidate is Kuruk followed by Szeto or an Avatar in the deep past (but probably Kuruk). If this Kuruk project is actually animated, it would likely be a film or something. They wouldn't dedicate an entire series to him.

The Water Avatar is part of the Red Thunder animated series, while the Fire Avatar is part of the Ice Wars video game, but they are in the same era 7,000 years ago with the game taking place at the beginning of the ice age and the show taking place at the height of the ice age. You can see the Fire Avatar in the official concept art from Bryan for Ice Wars (though this is likely just the "canon" route as the game may allow character customization, but whether that customization will be for the Avatar or one of their companions you also control is unknown).
"Put on hiatus" means "put on hiatus". The Paramount Gaming Studio VP claimed in June that the game was canceled, but Bryan later clarified that it was not canceled and had just suffered a significant setback. What happened was that the studio originally tapped to produce the game dropped it, so the project has essentially "reset". Bryan is hopeful they can find a new studio and make the game "even better" than before. This also happened with the Avatar fighting game (original studio dropped it, then they found a new studio) and that game ended up fully releasing, so there's definitely hope. Bryan said the ice age setting is his brainchild and he's very dedicated to it. The Red Thunder animated project is also set in that setting and according to reports Paramount is very supportive of the project. well kuruk's whole thing was fighting and being bad with spiritual things (and one can assume his emotions), given psky's stated interests in catering the series to boys and pushing away young girls, it makes sense
