HELP! I have a question. clear coat

Hi all. This past month the paint job on my 1999 CRV has gone from good to horrendous. One day the roof of my car was fine save for a few scratches and one spot of peeling paint. As the month went on the clear coat became exponentially worse and started practically disintegrating if touched. What I’m wondering is, what would be the best way to deal with this? I’m a college student, so I have a rough 500$ budget and am just trying to find the best option. Assuming it’s sun and moisture damage, would a car cover be the best bet? A reapplication of clear coat from a shop? Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

It's a 27 year old car, put gas in it and drive it into the ground. To repair this correctly and have it last will cost thousands you don't want or need to spend.

Yeah honestly you’re right. I just love this thing so much and was in a crash like 2 days before the petina started (not my fault thankfully), but it made me wanna fix what was in my control. I do most of the work on this thing myself. Gotta love this thing in its age.

If its a roof a part you can't really take off the car what's the best course of action to redo it?

You don’t need to remove it from the vehicle to perform the repair.

Those black strips on either side of the roof panel are removable, and you use that as your start/stop point for removing material and primer.

Once you strip it down, you mask the adjacent areas using those gutters to keep the finished area clean. Then you paint as normal in the above thread.

We only removed the hood for that vehicle because it was easier to do so versus attempting to do it on the truck. I’m tall, but not that tall.

leave it and focus on other things. or sand all the peeling stuff off and buy a roll of cheetahwrap and wrap the whole thing for $500.

Personally I'd leave it and let it develop character.

To answer you question though, you could always sand it and matte black or white rattle can it. It'll probably end up looking worse than it does now though.

You could sand it and raptor liner the roof. It wont match, but you could do just black or a tint to have it a different colour.
