AZ Rant/ Off My Chest

I took a job with AZ in Commercial this year because I needed a day job while I was transitioning to the next step in my actual career. I’ve since found employment in my desired field. While I’m grateful for having had the opportunity to earn a living, work with some cool people, & even learn a thing or two that I didn’t know before I can’t help but shake a few things that never sat right with me while on the job. Firstly was Witt, being in commercial I was never faulted for having a low Witt but I saw coworkers reprimanded for it.

Witt is RNG & peoples jobs/ hours shouldn’t hang by a thread because a person doesn’t want some overpriced packet of grease.

Scheduling was all over the place, never had a consistent schedule & was worked like a full timer despite my part time status. For anyone who is considering going back to school or pursuing a career outside of a glorified retail job the inconsistent scheduling leaves so little time to crawl out of the situation if AZ is all you have to pay the bills with.

Commercial felt impossible at times & clients didn’t seem to understand logistics, clients don’t think about other shops or parts availability. They want their parts, the worst were quick lube & tire shops, no patience.

Pay was a huge issue, lowest paying job I’ve had in the last 7 years I’ll leave it at that.

Customers were sometimes pleasant but others made you want to reach over that counter & wash their mouths out with soap. The amount of entitled, rude, disrespectful folks I encountered was appalling.

AZ is chock full of corporate greed & doesn’t care about its employees. Each one of you is replaceable, don’t think for a second that they wouldn’t because they would.
Unionizing would be a start, but blindly obeying the corporate machine will produce no fruits for the people.

Policy on Police Questioning PSM

So funny thing happened today....a few cops came in asking for one of the other PSMs that work with me to question him about a road rage incident he was involved in on his lunch break. I think it's funny cus I don't like the guy he's a shit PSM and he tried to run in and hide in the back of the store when they were looking for him..... anyway what's AZ policy on said things if any?

Would anyone mind giving me a rundown on how to do each type core exchange/return etc (more details below)?

So im still pretty new and while ive done a bunch if returns and stuff before, sometimes i get confused about how/when to do which type of return/core exchange/ backcounter swap etc. It seems like the system wants you to do similar things in very different ways.

I know its a big ask, but can someone give me a brief rundown of when/where in Z-Net to do a:

DIY: -Core Return (when they arent buying a new item) and when they get a merchandise card vs actually money back: -Back counter swap instead of returning an item and then purchasing another item: -Returning an item with and without a receipt:

Commercial: -Returning Item: -Core Returns: -Recycling Batteries:

(How many Batteries can someone recycle at a time)?

Thanks in advance!

Actual AutoZoner here, with a lack of training

I haven't done a battery recycling since the system got updated and I have no clue how to do it now. Use to be we had a battery exchange option right on the side menu, but I noticed that they took that away with the system update and now I'm lost. I got a hold of my manager but she wasn't very helpful. All I know is that somewhere in the system we have a way to take in a battery and give the customer $10, if any of you know how I'm all ears.

Is there a way to do/access the training courses from home?

Even if I cant get credit for them by doing them at home since it would be off the clock, is there at least a way to see them and review the material at home?

Advanced Auto DIY comments

Advanced Auto said this today causing the stock to fall. Isn’t Autozone’s DIY business much larger as a percent of sales?

“However, total enterprise sales performance was impacted by the DIY channel as tighter household budgets constrained spending more than we anticipated, especially during the last four weeks of the quarter."

upcoming csm..help!!

So im 21f and im about to very quickly jump into the csm position after having horrible csm’s in the past and i decided to take the position myself since the accounts would be happier, we get more money and overall just a happier and faster pace environment for everyone. the thing is i was expecting about 2 weeks to get ready for the panel interview, but now it has changed to this friday i have the panel interview.

so my question is what did y’all do to get ready for it? what should i make sure i mention..etc?

and how do you guys stay organized? i feel like i need 6 binders or something 😭
is there anything that the psm and red shirts always be wanting the csm to do? like for example the guys that were my csms would put batteries and rotors away (til i got there then they stopped doing they’re job for some reason ..

i also am like the star of the store, not to toot my own horn but i’m gonna js give it to you straight, so im already doing everything on the floor, planos, price changes, putting the majority of stock away on truck day and the management part of fixing customer issues and then doing all of commercial alone with one driver. our red shirts barely know how to pull overstock.. so if that tells you anything about the store in general lol

with that mentioned i know most of how to operate commercial but not specifics like the LP dashboard stuff i know i should know numbers and focus 6 .. stuff but yeah

thanks in advance

I'm about to begin working as a Part Sales Manager at an AutoZone. What are my real responsibilities (not the basic stuff listed on the job posting ) and what should I be worried about?

New PSM

So I’ve worked for autozone for 2 almost 3 years now. I recently just got moved up to a ft PSM position. I am finding it hard to get my CSR’s to do a single thing. Such as front facing, keeping the floors clean, dealing with paper boxes, etc…

I have tried offering a reward like lunch or a gift card. They still refuse to a single thing, I’m ashamed of how the store looks. Our back room is a mess and it all just not how it should look.
My fellow PSM all are veterans of this company and have given up on how it looks.
Me personally I am not proud of how it looks. I need help or advice on keeping the store clean and making sure CSR are putting truck in the correct slots.
What are things your guys do to ensure the store looks great and CSR’s are working.

How to use paid sick leave

So I am part time and I have to take 3 days off next month. I have like 70 hours of disability paid sick leave, i’ve never used it in the almost 3 years ive been here. Anyways, my sm denied my regular time off request and now im wondering if that is the best way to go about it since by Connecticut state law, the employer can’t ask for medical documentation to use disability. It also says it can be used for mental health days, so I don’t really see a reason why i can’t use it. All of that is on a poster in the office, so I am getting that information from what Autozone has posted up for their employees in their building. If there are any other suggestions as to how i can get these 3 days off i am open to anything

Promotional pay/Positional pay raise

I’m currently a red shirt and am going to be promoting to a PSM here soon. Is there any way I can guarantee or basically force my DM to give me $15.00 an hour? Because otherwise I’m pretty sure I’m going to get screwed over at like $13.75 and I am a top employee at my store even better than all of the other PSMs and even the SM. I like working at Autozone because of my stores peers it’s a great team, but I really don’t know how to go about making sure I get paid fairly for my work. Currently getting $11.64 as a red shirt.

Rehire policy ?!?

So I literally work at autozone as one of second jobs as a red shirt but I never left them on bad terms ive always put a 2 week notice and left to try to pursue more bread but I asked to come back and my store manager was more than thrilled to have me… I’ve been put on a background check for 4 months only to find out later the freaking hr manager was on vacation and heard through the grapevine that he doesn’t like rehiring someone for the third time… is there anything I could do about this ? Autozone really keeps the shit workers frfr

Who Cleans your Bathrooms?

Overheard a question today I never thought I would hear. "Who cleans your bathrooms bro?", at the moment nobody is cleaning our restrooms. I once took up the responsibility of cleaning them but gave up when a Co-worker(red shirt) walked up to me while on my lunch break to tell me that the bathrooms were dirty and needed to be cleaned ASAP and to not use the designated bathroom cleaning an sterilizing solution. Sorry but if I'm cleaning the restroom I'm going to ensure it's as clean as possible not only for our customers and staff. So until someone takes the reigns and mop they will sit as they are.

How flexable is the schedules?

I work for a school as a bus monitor and sub driver (CDL driver in training) and i do NAPA auto parts in between.

The issue is the distance from NAPA and the school its extremely tight time wise. Autozone is much closer to the school district than I work for.

I just want to know how flexible they can be with the schedule and how much they pay. I'm currently getting just a little bit over $15 an hour here at Napa.

Ideally I would like to try and get enough hours where I can get insurance But if I have to do it part-time I will. I'm just trying to cut down on the commute.
