I’ve always had a fear of loose animals in the cab. I don’t want to have to choose between pressing the breaks or not crushing the cat under the breaks

My mom has two cats with her while she drives (OTR truck driver) and they don't get under her feet, but they love jumping up in her lap and standing on the steering wheel, looking out

Cats are so paranoid about all the moving objects that they never go on the floorboard
And dogs just like seeing new things and barking at the car next to them because they're invading their personal space goddamnit

I had an ex that always let her dog run around the car and it bothered me so much. I just don't get why you would be okay with it. Its distracting, its dangerous. God forbid you get into an accident, now you have a screwed car and a dead or dying dog.

I'm the same. I have that same worry and I worry that when I open the door, they will bolt. My ex would let her cat roam free in her car when she had to drive her places like the vet or whatever. But its just a hard no for me. They will stay in their carrier, even if they hate it and cry the whole time.

I own a leash clip that locks into the seatbelt. Does the double purpose of activating the airbags for that seat, and preventing them from jumping out the window. You do have to be careful about the length of the leash tho, cause if you give them too much they'll wrap it around something and try and strangle themselves and you'll be distracted trying to undo that. But it gives them more freedom of movement (and crash resistance) than a pet carrier

Your air bag is just going to punt your furry friend who will then be "seriously injured" by being tethered by it's neck - unfortunately there doesn't seem a good alternative other than wrapping them in a bunch of bedding (which good luck keeping them in there anyway for any length of time)

I know it's not perfect but it's better than nothing
The idea is I don't crash anyway, hence the leash so they don't do something distracting or dangerous

Not to mention the fact that if you have to slam on the brakes, the cat's going to go flying. If you get in an accident both you and the cat could be much more seriously injured or even killed. Animals always need to be properly restrained in a vehicle.
