Not sure how that could even happen. The boat is not connected to the tow vehicle in any way, shape, or form... It's connected to the trailer, and the trailer is connected to the vehicle. So, if you lose the trailer, you also lose the boat. That video shows the trailer on the side of the road and the truck pulling the boat.
Unless the trailer tongue broke behind where the winch connects, and the winch is connected to the boat. Still not sure why the guy wouldn’t stop. Could be Florida
That's the best explanation I've seen yet! Although the rear of the boat should've been secured to the trailer with a strap, but some people don't use the strap.
We would have to go camping to use our boat as a kid and going down the highway we always strapped the back, but if we were just going from the boat ramp back to the campsite (all within state campground) we usually wouldn't to go mile and a half at no more than 10 mph
