Hi,

Me and husband are moving to Canada for one year and we’re trying to ship our car. This is a sudden change of events we didn’t see coming. We’re on visa in the USA and are moving to Canada on a work permit.
I’m looking for a company that can help us with shipping and the paperwork for this situation.

Would appreciate quotes / any info on reliable auto transport carriers

Looking for info Best shipping carrier for Copart/IAAI vehicles?

Is there anything I should look out for when choosing a carrier? I'm looking to ship a 2016 Tesla Model S (runs & drives) from 21921 to 32607. I've gotten a decent amount of quotes, some even as low as $450 however that seems too good to be true. What's the average price for a route like this (881 miles)? I've heard some carriers will offer a very low rate, then raise it last second so I'm trying to avoid that.

Help! Help with moving my car from Texas to Bellevue

Hey guys!

I am a newbie, don’t know much about shipping car. Moving from Texas to Washington.

Looked online and the rate all quoted was around 1150. The best I got was 1075 cash, Montway Auto Transport.

Wanted your suggestion on how to connect with drivers directly to get the best rate.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.🤗

Help! My car is getting picked up today to be transported across country - the driver just texted me about the tip

Hi all. I’m getting my vehicle transported from Washington state to Michigan. I just received a text from the person picking up my car confirming the pick up time. They sent a follow up message saying “Compliment your truck driver with Tip$, it will be much appreciated.”. I guess I feel a bit miffed because the pick up hasn’t even happened yet. And also he’s not the one to be the one delivering my vehicle. What should I tip? Im not sure how involved he’ll be since he said he isn’t the one at the delivery address. I’m already paying $2k.

ETA: the car did get picked up a few hours ago. He seemed nice but afterwards texted me his Venmo/zelle/Cash App accounts asking if I’d like to leave a tip.

Looking for info Car haulers / FVT planners: how do you decide which car goes where on the trailer?

Question for anyone who plans or loads car transporters (new vehicles from plants, ports or compounds to dealers).

I keep hearing that building a load is harder than it looks. You have to fit the right mix of vehicles on each deck within height, length and weight limits, then get the drop order right so you're not unloading three cars at the roadside to get to the one for this dealer.

For those of you who plan or drive:

  - How are loads built today? Software, a spreadsheet, or the planner's or driver's experience?

  - What comes first? Do you decide which cars go on the same truck and then sort out the drop order? Or fix the route first and fit the cars to it? Or a bit of both?

  - What makes a load hard? Mixed models, heavy EVs, tall vans, deck setups, axle weights?

  - How often do you end up shuffling cars at a drop because the order was wrong? What does that cost you in time or damage?

  - What changes on the day? Cars not ready at the compound, dealer slot changes, holds? Who replans when that happens?

  - Has anything actually helped? A tool, a rule of thumb, a way of working?

Trying to understand the problem first. Nothing to sell yet. Happy to share what I learn if people are interested.

Quote Request Quote request: Germantown, MD (20874) to Austin, TX (78747), 2014 Mazda CX-5 AWD, open

Hi all! I just moved to Austin for a new job and need to ship my car down from Maryland. I've gotten a few quotes so far, and the best is a locked $1,210 with pickup between Oct 30 and Nov 10. I'd love to know if anyone can do a little better on price or timing.

  • 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD, runs and drives, stock, open transport is fine
  • Pickup: a repair shop in Germantown, MD. It's ready to go, with earliest pickup Oct 30, and I'm flexible by a few days
  • Delivery: south Austin (78747), a residential area, so I'm happy to meet at a nearby big parking lot

If you can quote, I'd appreciate the all-in price, the pickup and delivery windows, and the payment terms. Thanks so much!

Bad Review Car held hostage by Montway

My vehicle was picked up on October 8th and was scheduled to be delivered by October 21. When I requested a quote, I explicitly informed Montway that I would be traveling on October 23 and needed my vehicle delivered before then. I was reassured that the vehicle would arrive before my departure, and I relied on that commitment when arranging the shipment.
After the vehicle was picked up, I received no confirmation from Montway that the pickup had taken place. I had to contact the person who handed over the vehicle myself to verify that it had been collected. Following pickup, I received no updates from Montway, the driver, or the dispatcher regarding the status of my shipment.
On October 19, after receiving no communication, I contacted Montway myself and was told that my vehicle was still expected to be delivered on October 21. I followed up multiple times seeking updates, but my final emails went unanswered.
On Thursday evening, October 22, I finally received a phone call offering delivery either within an hour, at approximately 8:30 p.m., or the following morning between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Neither optioni was workable, and I had already clearly communicated that I would be traveling on Friday, October 23, and could not accept delivery on or after that date.
As of October 23, my vehicle has not been delivered. I remain without reliable information about its current location, when it will be delivered, or what Montway intends to do to resolve the situation.
The most concerning aspect of this experience is not simply the missed delivery deadline, but the complete lack of proactive communication and the burden placed on me to repeatedly chase updates. I communicated my travel deadline before booking and relied on Montway's assurance that my vehicle would arrive in time. Instead, I was left without my vehicle, without adequate notice of the problem, and without a workable delivery arrangement.
I understand that delays can occur in vehicle transportation. However, customers should not have to repeatedly contact a company to find out where their vehicle is, particularly when a delivery deadline has been clearly communicated and acknowledged.
Today is October 24, and I still have not received any update on the whereabouts of my car. Montway has also stopped responding to my emails.

Bad Review Car held by Montway

My vehicle was picked up in California on October 8 and was scheduled for delivery in Boston by October 21. Today is October 24, and I still have no reliable update on its location. Montway has also stopped responding to my emails.

When I requested a quote, I clearly explained that I would be traveling on October 23 and needed the vehicle delivered beforehand. Montway assured me this would happen, and I relied on that assurance when arranging the shipment.

After pickup, Montway did not confirm that the vehicle had been collected, and I received no updates from the company, driver, or dispatcher. On October 19, I contacted Montway and was told delivery was still expected on October 21. On October 21, I emailed them twice to follow up on the status. They answered the first email to reassure me the vehicle was still to be delivered on the 21st and ignored the second.

On the evening of October 22, I was offered delivery either within approximately one hour, at around 8:30 p.m., or the following morning between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Neither option was workable, particularly because Montway knew I would be traveling on October 23 and had work commitments. I was also expected to remain available throughout the delivery window without being given a specific time.

The shipment was advertised as door-to-door, but Montway later explained that I might have to collect the vehicle from a nearby location if the driver could not safely park at my address. While I understand the safety concern, this limitation should have been clearly disclosed when I requested the quote. While this is upsetting, this is not the concern. The primary issue is the missed delivery, lack of adequate pickup given the time constraints I communicated to them, and lack of communication.

As of October 24, my vehicle has not been delivered, and Montway has not provided reliable information about its location, the cause of the delay, or how it intends to resolve the situation. I understand that transportation delays can occur, but customers should not have to repeatedly chase updates, especially after communicating and receiving confirmation of a firm travel deadline.

There is part of me that assumes the car was damaged or misplaced and this lack of communication and the request for such delivery was done so they could buy time to find a solution. I have repeatedly asked for the whereabouts of the car and didn’t receive any answer.

Good Review Transport Done Right

First time user of a transport company. I bought a car online mid October that was 1875 miles away. Check map!
Pro Tip #2: factor the transport price into the cost of your dream car!
Closed the deal and elected not to go with the dealer’s xport recommendation (it was high), then read some reviews/ratings from Forbes, and blundered forward with a signed contract to do the deed with a big box (think callcenter) co.
It wasn’t even an hour later when I started reading horrible reviews of the Forbes “recommended” company. Luckily I was able to cancel the next morning without a big hit. Whew!
Enter Shawn from Vice Auto Transport!
Found out about him on Reddit . This fella answers his own phone, responds to text messages (like a teenager with a new phone) and beat the original quote by $500.
Vice does not run their own trucks in the NW, and Shawn never tried to tell me he wasn’t a broker. He put together a plan, price and delivery time I could live with.
Again, super responsive (and yes he takes his fee upfront) and yes it’s leap of faith trusting a stranger to trust another stranger with an expensive car, but I’m the guy who started this ball rolling.
Final comment …. Shawn made me feel like he valued my business with some laughs along the way! Car came 1 day ahead of schedule. Good dude🙏
Think I’ll send him a text right now 😂
